I had the pleasure of visiting some family this past weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan so naturally I just had to make a pit stop at Founders' brewery. I was able to taste Dirty bastard, The Infiltrator DIPA, and Sweet Repute all from the tap for the first time. It was a delectable experience to say the least.

Seeing as we currently have some Sweet Repute still in stock, I decided to do a proper write up on this tasty and complex brew. I should also add that this is my very first experience with a Wheat Wine! Very exciting.

[Founders Sweet Repute (MI)]

Details: 

Style- Wheat Wine aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels

ABV- 12.6%

Original Vessel- Tap 

Glass- Snifter

Impressions:

Pour- Syrupy amber/gold

Head- Small, fluffy, off-white. It left some respectable lacing behind.

Smells- Forget bourbon, this smelled like straight up Scotch with some mingling aromas of vanilla and maple syrup.

Mouth Feel- Super slick, full body with very low carbonation

Flavor- A very small amount of the wheat emerges with that familiar bready backbone holding its own behind the scenes. The dominant flavors are definitely a continuation of the maple with added tones of caramel/toffee.

Finish- The high alcohol content allows for a beautiful warmth with the hops shining through.

P.S. I picked up a bunch of Michigan beer goodies that we don't get here in VA so I may do a couple of write ups on those in the near future just for fun.
