I ordered a Dolk Sweet Robbery dress for this Obitsu Ai-Chan head on a Make it Mine Haley body that I’ve been calling Goob ever since @oak23 pointed out she reminded him of this:
He’s not wrong (*/ω\*)
Anyway it arrived pretty quickly and I was just as quickly disappointed.
It cost me about $50 after shipping and is much closer to something you could get off AliExpress for $15.
The fabric is the best part. While the “blouse” part of it is a plain, woven cotton, the printed parts are more like a polyester scarf. It’s soft and floaty and drapes nicely.
The wings are lapel-pins. Everything else was glued on.
This..... Uh......
I am not terribly picky in general, but in some things I am. This was unacceptable.
Unnfh....... Glue stain.
I got a bunch of stuff out (which I haven’t put away, yet...) and set to work.
I didn’t use everything but figured it would be better to drag it all out than have to keep going back and forth to get stuff if I needed it.
Gluuuuueeeeeuuuuuugh.... The bow was a satin ribbon glued to a metal pendant glued to a wad of lace glued to a clip.
I couldn’t get that glue out of the lace so I sewed the pendant to a bit of velvet ribbon (I don’t have any black satin ribbon on hand), then wrapped that around the lace to cover the glue, made a fake bow with more velvet ribbon, and stitched it all together.
I also stitched over the attachment pretty heavily to hide it. Much better.
To attach it to her wig which has a perfectly pressed part I didn’t want to mess up...
I lightly stitched a loop of the same velvet ribbon to clip the bow to.
It’ll be very easy to remove when I want to and isn’t too visible when she has her bow on.
On the bodice I sewed the charm on and applied a black velvet bow. I did hide the connection like I did on her hair bow but felt like it needed something more despite the GIANT wings.
As for the gaudy loop and hook tape closure, I’ve removed that and installed three black snaps which of course also meant resewing the back Honestly I didn’t try too hard on that part. I couldn’t see what I was doing even with the ring light right in my way.
The whole collar flap thing is sewn on wrong. I’m making myself ignore it since I won’t see the back often anyway. It does make the collar lay a little crooked in the front, though. That can be remedied with pressing and stitching it to the bodice of the dress. If I feel like it.
(different camera, different lighting) And I redid the hem by hand with a medium grey thread using the original machine stitched hem as a guide to place my stitches. My hand hemming isn’t great, but it’s better than having entirely too much of the wrong color there. I didn’t remove and repress the skirt. They hemmed it along with the print and didn’t get it straight, but I won’t see that all of the time, either.
Either way, it took me about four hours. I really do not enjoy sewing on snaps and I’m not fast at it, either. When I took a sewing class a good 20+ years ago the instructor said to use four separate threads instead of one or two so that if one breaks, the snap is still secure and you’ll have plenty of time to fix it. Now I do that every time even though I don’t enjoy it.
She’s wearing a Glitter Girls skirt underneath for some fluff.
I think this outfit suits her vaguely unsettling faceup very well. There are some Dollmore tights on their way, too, but I’m not patient and didn’t want to wait to take her pics.
