You felt like stream was about to burst out of your ears as you watched that pretentious little red headed agent flirt with Steve. Right in front of you, they were nearly just a few feet away from you and you couldn’t do a thing. You and Steve hadn’t gone public with your relationship yet, he wanted it to stay between the two of you.
Well for as long as it could, it didn’t want it to reflect badly on either of you since you were practically dating your boss. The worst part was how he stood there clueless, he was never good at picking up the hints women threw at him.
Hell, it took him a year to pick up on all the hints you essentially shoved in his face.
You weren’t mad at Steve no, especially not when he looked so utterly lost and confused as the red heads hands were roaming his arm and squeezing his bicep. “You’re such a strong man cap..” her high pitched voice rang through your ears as her hands slid up his arm. “Oh uh yeah, thank you I train a lot” Steve nervously chuckled as his eyes furrowed in confusion, he didn’t understand why she was being so nice.
The anger continues to boil up inside you as one of her hands starts to glide across his toned chest. “You know you could still walk over there and intervene without exposing the two of you” you suddenly hear sam's voice offer beside you. You had no idea how long he had been standing next to you. “Instead of you know attempting to stare daggers through her, it would be more effective” sam stifled a chuckle as you became conscious of your glaring. Your eyes go wide for a sec and you avert your eyes just as Steve glanced over at you.
He takes notice of how uncomfortable you look, he is then very suddenly aware of the agent's body now pressed very close to his. His body stiffened and he slowly attempted to back up only to be met with the corner of the wall.
“Hey Steve, come on Stark said he needs us in the meeting room” suddenly you appeared by his side trying your hardest to push yourself between them. “Oh I’ll come with you guys!” She chirps up and reaches for Steve’s hand to pull him away. “No he just needs uh me and Rogers..sorry” you mumble out the sorry with a small eye roll and look over at steve as relief washes over his face.
“Oh okay” she sighs and finally walks away. With a smile full of pride at winning your grab Steve’s wrist and pull him towards the empty meeting you. You had lied, obviously you wanted her to get away from your man.
Once inside the vacant room Steve pulls you against his chest, wrapping him around your waist. “Did my little star get jealous?” Steve teases though he was grateful you pulled him away from her. “Shut up” you scoff and lightly punch his shoulder before wrapping your arms around his neck and burying your face in his chest.

You sit there alongside Eddie in utter disbelief at the stories you’ve heard today. Well, almost utter disbelief, you want to believe what they are telling you isn’t ture. You’re waiting for them to begin laughing and reveal that this is some elaborate joke that they are playing on the new kid in town, but you know they are telling the truth. They are confident in their stories, in a way that you cannot fake.
Robin, Max, and Dusitn have their backs turned to you as they continue to tell Eddie about the evil that really lies beneath their beloved town, their cursed town. The freaking town that you just decided to move to… Great.
“This is a lot to take in, are you okay?” Steve asks, kneeling beside you, his warm hand softly touching yours.
“I don’t think this is the kind of trouble Gran had talked about getting in to.” You whisper to Steve who just chuckles.
“I don’t think so either.” He squeezes your hand, “Look you can back out now, no one will blame you.”
“Whoa, no. I’m in this now. Am I scared as hell? Yes. Am I going to leave my friends so go at this alone? Hell no.” You sit straighter, small smile on your face.
“I knew I liked you.” He smiles.
“Okay, so where did you get the new girl from?” Eddies voice cuts through the quiet chatter.
“Oh, she’s my new neighbor!” Dustin’s voice changes from low and serious to chipper and excited. “She just moved in.”
“You believe this, shit?” Eddie asks you, motioning around the room.
“Oddly, yes. After what you’ve witnessed, wouldn’t you?” You shrug.
“You seemed normal at first,” Eddie chuckles. “Guess you’re just as weird as the rest of us.”
“You do seem pretty smart and level-headed. Why do you believe us?” Robin quickly turns toward you.
“I would say this sounds weird, but after hearing all these stories, not so much.” You zone out, trying to come up with the proper way to say it. “I’ve always been able to… feel the energies around me. Sometimes, if stong enough, I can feel others’ emotions. Fear is salty like tears or sweat. Anger is a hellish heat.” You trail off, opening your mouth to say more but fighting with the urge to hide, to cut yourself off before you say too much.
“What?” Max asks.
“It’s just, I was kind of a freak back home because of this crap, even with my family.” You admit.
“Join the club, Princess.” Eddie scoffs. “Nothing wrong with being a freak.”
“Until your parent’s threaten to lock you up in an asylum.” You snip. “I was the ‘Witch of Weston, Indiana’. All because the girl I thought was my best friend told the whole school about how I can ‘see ghosts’.”
“You can see ghosts?” Steve asks in shock.
“No,” You huff, “But sometimes I can see things, I don’t think their ghosts, and other times I can feel things. From the second I crossed into Hawkins, I could feel something wrong with this place. Like a rot taking over from the root up, like the soil here is sick or… cursed.” You anxiously shake your lef as you stare down at your feet, refusing to make eye contact.
“You’re right, it is. Hawkins IS cursed. Freak or not, you’re our friend. Honestly, we are all freaks.” Dustin gestures around the room.
“Speak for yourself , Henderson.”
“Shut up, Steve.” Robin rolls her eyes.
“Can you read minds?” Eddie blurts out, head cocked to the side as he awaits your answer.
“No, thank God.” You bust out in honest laughter. “I’m pretty sure I don’t want to know what you’re thinking.”
“I’m just thinking that you’re hot for a freak.” He says with a seductive smirk playing at his lips.
“Is that so?” You ask between your giggles, causing your stomach to ache.
“Hey! Nope, that’s enough. We are done here. Time to go home.” Steve claps his hands, motioning to the door. “Stay here, Munson, we will be back tomorrow.”
“Ah, don’t be a party pooper, Harrington.” Eddie groans.
“Actually, I really should be going anyway. I have to check on my Gran.” You stand to your feet, brushing the dirt of your pants. “It was nice to meet you, Eddie. Wish it were under better circumstances.”
“You’ll be back tomorrow?” He asks.
“As long as everyone hasn’t disowned me.” You look up at Steve who flashing a smile that puts your worries to ease.
“We will all be back tomorrow.” Dustin announces, patting your back as he walks past. “With food.”
“Thank God,I’m running out of stuff to eat here.”
“Come on, let’s get you home,” Steve whispers in your ear as he gently guides you out and to his car that waits at the top of the hill.
“I really don’t scare you.” You ask, voice small and unsure.
“I have six kids that I fight monsters… and Russians… to protect. You are the least scary thing to happen in the last few years.” He smiles, gently nudging you with his arm.
“Gran was right about you.” You gently bump him back. “You are a good guy.”
“Yeah, he is. A little to full of himself sometimes, but Steve is the best.” Max says softly, walking past the two of you without looking back.
“I didn’t tell her to say that, either.” Dustin says with wide eyes and a proud expression beaming from his face.
“What is he talking about?” You giggle, looking up at Steve who is running a heavy hand down his face in frustration.
“Nothing, he’s just… weird.” Steve waits for you to slide into the backseat and closes the door behind you.
“So, we should probably let the others in on what is going on at some point.” Max speaks up.
“Yeah, we will find Nancy and Lucas right after we check on Eddie tomorrow.” Dustin nods in agreement.
Leaning up in your seat to peek your head in the space between Steve and Robin, you gently tap Steve on the shoulder. “You can just drop me and Dustin off at my car, he can ride home with me.”
“You sure?” He glances over at you as you sit back in your seat.
“Absolutely, no need for you to take him home if I’m going that way anyway.” You turn to Dustin. “As long as that’s okay with you?”
“Definitely.” He smiles a wide, Dustin-like smile.
It wasn’t long before Steve was pulling into Family Video and parking right next to your car. You quickly slide out of the car and open the trunk for Dustin. As he is gathering his bike you turn back toward Steves vehicle, leaning down into the window. “Thanks, Steve.”
“No problem, Y/N.” He smiles.
“Goodnight you guys, I’ll see y’all tomorrow.” You smile at Robin and Max who smile back.
You notice Max’s smile does not quite reach her eyes and you feel a pull in your chest. She’s hurting, troubled mentally and emotional and she’s pretending to be okay. She looks away from you and down to her fidgeting hands.
“Alright, kiddo. Let’s get going.” You quickly turn away and skip to your car. “I definitely need some sleep after today.”
