Luka/Sabrina, first meeting, "Whatcha doin'?"

“Oh! Wha!?”

Sabrina snapped back into reality as the black and teal-haired musician asked her the basic question. Before he confronted her, Sabrina sat by herself on her phone. She and Chloe were invited to a party in Luka and Juleka’s boat home. Of course, it’s basically a surprise that either one of the mean girls was invited to the party, but they were, since Miss Bustier believes in “including everybody” in everything, so they won’t feel left out. Also, an opportunity to hang out with Adrikins and the cute punk musician? There’s no way Chloe would pass that up, even if she hates everyone there with a burning passion.

Sabrina was actually excited to attend this party, even if it’s a little get together. Sabrina actually LOVES parties, especially with people who are cool and nice. It gives her a chance to “let her hair down”. Though, even for an introvert like her, it can be a bit overwhelming for her. Not to mention that she’s not used to being around people other than Chloe. So, she had to take a breather.

It’s a possibility that Sabrina is one of those few people in the world that likes to go out…but then wishes she stayed home…but then she wishes she went out….it’s complicated. Sabrina’s heart beats slightly faster. Is it because she was approached by the cute musician that she had her eyes on a couple of times through the duration of the party?

Nah. Again, Sabrina’s just anxious like that. That’s totally it.

“I was just asking whatcha up to?” Said Luka. Luka giggled slightly.

“Oh! M-Me? N-Nothing! I mean, I wasn’t doing anything. I was just…sitting. And…resting.”

“Oh, it’s fine. Just taking a breather from the excitement. Understandable. In fact, that’s kind of what I was doing. Just saw you sitting by yourself and just decided to see what you were up to.”

“Oh, you didn’t have to do that! I was just-”

“Seriously, it’s fine…um… Samantha, is it?”

“Sabrina. It’s…Sabrina.”

“That’s right! I remember Marinette mentioning you. Sabrina is a nice name. Sorry, usually I’m pretty good at remembering names.”

“Oh, it’s ok. I didn’t really expect you to remember me or my name.”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“Ah, forgot it. It’s nothing.”

“Hm, alright…”

Luka took Sabrina’s uneasiness to her statement as a sign to leave it at that. The two sat for a few minutes in silence, looking out at nowhere. That’s until Luka broke the silence once again with another simple and basic question.

“It’s nice out, isn’t it?”

“Oh? Yeah! It actually is…”

“It feels good out. A little breeze, and the birds. It’s great.”

“Actually, yeah. I usually like to be out on days like this when I can. I mean, when I’m with Chloe that is.”

Luka process what the red head said, remembering that she is friends with “that girl” that his sister told him about countless of times before. Though he hid that fact with a question to disguise what he really knows about the blonde.

“I see. It seems like you and Chloe are pretty close, huh?”

“Oh, we are! We’re like BFFs! We do everything together!”

“I see.”

Luka glances over at the blonde, trying to push herself onto the young motel, like always. In fact, he looked a bit uncomfortable. He even saw it though his forced friendly smile. Luka did think about getting up and confronting Adrien and the situation until Sabrina broke his train of thought.

“Seems like she’s busy with Adrien again, I’ll just leave her to it again. She probably wants to have fun with her friend you know?”

Luka understood what she said with a slight mellow smile. However, that smile soon eased away, as he started to take something else in consideration.

“She didn’t want to stay with you?”

Sabrina hesitated with her response until she answered with bit of a stutter.

“Well, uh, not really. I mean, it’s not that she didn’t want to! She just wants to see Adrien!”

“I see…”

Luka starts to wonder.

“Are you enjoying the party so far? It was your idea to come right?”

“Oh, it was actually Chloe’s idea to come! I just came along with her because she wanted to see Adrien and…”

Sabrina froze and catches herself in time. She remembers that Chloe also came to the party to see Luka, but she knows that’s not something that you tell your best friend’s crush of course. I mean, Chloe already makes it known that she’s smitten for the boy, but that’s just something that she should be able to express, not someone else. Sometimes when they are alone, Chloe talks about the musician to Sabrina, almost similar to the way she talks about Adrien. According to Chloe, he has this certain…charm about himself that she just can’t resist for some reason. Maybe it’s his demeanor? His hair and how his teal dye blends well with his black hair? His mellow smile? His soft, luminous, vivid, cyan eyes…

“Huh?”

Sabrina quickly snaps out of her trance, as she didn’t realize that she was actually staring straight at the boy. Into his eyes even. Sabrina looked away quickly, with a slight blush on her cheeks. She put both hands on her cheeks to disguise them.

“The…the food! Yeah, the food!”

Yes, Sabrina said this, even though she knows Chloe is very picky when it comes to food. Good save, Sabrina…

Luka still looked confused, but he smiled slightly.

“I see, can’t argue with that. My mom knows how to order a mean pizza.” Luka joked. He laughed a bit, while Sabrina joined him.

This for some reason made Luka’s smile grow a bit wider. He took this moment to observe the red head a bit more closely.

“You have…a pretty smile.”

Sabrina slowly stopped laughing and stared at Luka for a sec. She slightly blushed again, getting a little flustered.

“Oh, uh, thank you!”

“You know, I never seen you around before, with your class I mean. Don’t you hang around with them?”

“Well, um, not really. I hang out with Chloe a lot. I don’t really have many friends besides her…” said Sabrina, trying to cover up the fact that Chloe really is her only friend unfortunately.

“Do you ever try to make new friends with people?”

“Well…”

Sabrina was lost for words. She didn’t really know how to respond. She never really thought of the possibility of making other friends outside of Chloe before…or maybe she did? But her and Chloe were friends for so long, ever since elementary school as a matter of fact. She was there when she didn’t have anyone else. Chloe was such a good friend, that’s why she did many things for the blonde! She did her nails, brushed her hair, offered her fresh fruit when doing homework, carried things for her like her books and bag, made things for her, open doors for her, did her homework for her etc. Of course she did, that’s what friends do right? She wouldn’t want to do anything to jeopardize the friendship. So of course she was hesitant in making new friends with others. Though, Marinette WAS an exception. Until she dumped her…

“It’s not that I don’t want to, but…I guess…I haven’t really….thought about it.”

Sabrina looked down, almost looking a bit…ashamed? Anxious? Maybe a bit worried of his reaction?

“Well…”

Luka extended out a hand to Sabrina. She raised an eyebrow.

“Maybe we can be friends?”

Luka scratched the back of his head, looking down and a bit shy. It’s kind of strange since Luka isn’t usually shy. He then looked back up at her.

“I’m Luka by the way. Jeluka’s older brother.”

Sabrina paused for a minute, to grasp what Luka was trying to do. He’s…offering her friendship? She…didn’t really expect that to be honest. Someone else wanted to be her friend? No one usually talks to her, in or out of school. The only one who came close was…Marinette.

Still though, why would Luka want to be friends with a girl who bullied his sister? Though hesitant, Sabrina did look on the bright side of this. She felt surprised, even anxious, but also…joyous? Sabrina felt some sort of hope deep within her, maybe this time it could work out? Luka does seem like a nice boy after all? He did check on her after all. And Sabrina…seems interested in learning more about him??? Is that it?

Sabrina started to smile, in fact, it grew wider as seconds passed. Sabrina grabbed Luka’s hand with both of her hands, shaking it to match her own.

“It’s nice to meet you, Luka? I’m Sabrina Raincomprix.”

“Um, I know? You already told me. Look who’s forgetting names now”. Luka laughed, causing Sabrina to blush a bit.

“Oh, right!”

“I’m such a dork!”, at least that’s what Sabrina thought to herself. She sank her face into her palms for a few seconds in embarrassment.

“Relax, Sabrina. I was just joking!” Luka calmed down on the laughing as it faded into a smile.

Sabrina looked up from her palms.

“Sorry, just…kind of nervous.”

“Don’t worry, don’t be. I won’t bite.” Luka joked.

Both of the teens stared at each other for a few seconds before Luka once again broke the silence.

“So, what do you like to do on your free time, Sabrina? Your hobbies?”

“I liked to hang out with Chloe! We dress up, watch movies, go shopping, put on make-”

“That’s nice, but what are your hobbies? What do you like to do?”

Sabrina froze for a minute. She thought about the question again and finally gave an answer.

“Well, I…I DO like to…maybe plant flowers…and….”

“And?”

“Read stories. And…write them.”

“Really? That’s incredible. I didn’t really imagine you as the type to write stories. What kind you like to do?”

“Well, I do like to write mysteries! I also like to write slice-of-life ones and coming of age.”

“That’s cool! I actually been getting into mysteries myself, especially murder mysteries.”

“Really?”

“Yeah! It’s just something about them that leaves you on your toes. Like, I’m currently on this one story, where this popular athlete at school went missing.”

“Oh! You mean The Disappearance of Herry Lambert? I actually heard of that book!”

“Great! So, you haven’t read it?”

“Not yet. Though I was thinking about it…”

“It’s really good…”

Sabrina smiled.

“What do you like to do, Luka?”

“I love writing songs and playing music. My hands are basically glued to my guitar.”

“You play music!? That’s amazing! I wish that I can play the guitar.”

“Why not? You can do anything that you want to do, Sabrina.”

“Really?” Sabrina’s eyes slightly light up.

“Sure! Maybe I can play a song for you one day? Even teach you?”

“You would do that? I don’t want to be a bother.”

“Not at all! You seem like a nice person, Sabrina. And, to be honest, I would like to get to know you more.”

“Me too…”

Sabrina blushed a bit.

The two talked for about an hour or two before returning to the party. In the end, they exchange numbers to talk and text.

…

Sabrina and Chloe were walking home from the party. Chloe was rambling on as usual about her unsuccessful attempts of spending alone time with Adrien.

“I can’t believe Adrien ditched me to hang out with those losers! And it’s like that Lukakins barely noticed me! It’s like he was avoiding me to hang out with them! Ridiculous, utterly ridiculous!” I barley was introduced to him properly as it is!”

Sabrina was too deep in thought to even listen to Chloe’s rambling, or to pay attention to the fact that she already has a pet name for him. She was still thinking about Luka. How ironic the two came to the party for Chloe to get acquainted with him, only for Sabrina and Luka to become friends instead. How…ironic indeed. Sabrina did think about telling Chloe about her new friend, but…would she be a bad friend for making friends with Luka before her best friend did? The one who actually has a crush on him? It’s not like she has a crush on him too…right?

“Helloooo~, earth to Sabrina!”

Was Luka really interested in being friends with someone like her? What is it about her that he seemed to like anyway? They only talked for 2 hours, and she was a bully! Luka doesn’t like bullies! At least that’s what she thinks, right? She even bullied his own sister! What “friend” does that? Who even WANTS to be friends with someone who does that?”

“Sabrinaaaa!”

Should she call him? Or even text him? Maybe she made a mistake. Geez, why does this feel like that she’s trying to get with him? He just wants to be friends! That’s just how it goes for introverted people I guess, just like how friendship breakups feel like actual breakups sometimes.

Maybe Sabrina should just forget it and stick with Chloe. Maybe she should just break off something that barley began…

but…

What if she didn’t want to?

What if she…liked Luka?

What if she wants more friends?

What if-

“SABRINA!”

Sabrina snapped out of her thoughts to look at her friend.

“Hu-huh!?”

“Have you even listened to a word that I’ve said!?”

“Oh, yeah! About Luka and how nice, kind, sweet, cool-”

“Whoa whoa whoa! Talk about an over exaggeration??? I mean, he IS cute, but-”

Sabrina realized that she rambled on about Luka without thought to her friend.

“I don’t remember talking to you about how “nice”, “kind”, “sweet”, and “cool” he is? What? Do you have a crush on him or something?”

Sabrina froze.

“Whatever, it wouldn’t matter anyway. I already have dibs and he’s practically in love with me. I can feel it.”

“I….”

Sabrina stopped. Chloe looked at her, wondering what she was going to say.

“I…can…help you!”

Chloe raised an eyebrow. She wondered a bit why she wanted to help her with Luka so much all the sudden. Before them, she just listened.…but she didn’t give much thought.

“Hmmm….fine. But since you are going to help me, I want you to get some detail on him! Likes, dislikes, everything! Got it!?”

Chloe gestures her finger into Sabrina’s face when she said that.

“Of course, Chloe!” Sabrina said in certainty and excitement.

The two continued to walk home. They were going to have a sleepover for their regular hang out and dish sessions. And to of course talk about the musician.

I guess Sabrina doesn’t have to stray from Luka after all. She was going to help her best friend learn more about Luka anyways.

Yeah…yeah that’s it.

...I think she knows exactly what she's doing.
