part two, part three
The first note of the song slid through the bar like a dangerous caress.
The wooden floor vibrated beneath my feet as I walked toward the center of the small bar’s stage. Golden lights poured down over me, and I felt how the red top shimmered in the heat, clinging to my body like a second skin. It revealed my legs, my arms, and the gentle movement of my abdomen as I breathed, as if every heartbeat set the rhythm of the music.
♫ show a little more ♫
♫ show a little less ♫
I smiled as I heard the lyrics, letting my lips follow along without making a sound. Dark eyeliner framed my eyes; mascara and fake eyelashes caught the light every time I blinked. I knew how to look at them. I knew when to lower my gaze and when to hold it.
And they… they didn’t look away. Some tapped the tables to the beat. Others drank without taking their eyes off me. There was desire in their eyes, but also something else: absolute attention. The bar was full of them. Pirates. All of them came to see the beautiful owner of the bar, Shakky, who served them with a lovely smile.
I moved slowly at first, letting the suspense build. Then I turned, raised an arm, let my red hair fall down my back, and heard the first whistles. Every step was calculated, every pause intentional. I wasn’t just dancing with my body; I was dancing with expectation.
The entire bar seemed to breathe with me.
♫ welcome to burlesque ♫
When the song reached its end, I stopped dead, one leg forward and my head held high. The silence lasted barely a second… and then it exploded.
Applause, shouts, laughter, glasses clinking, coins jingling on the tables. I bowed with a smile, tossing my red hair, savoring that moment that always came—and always left too quickly.
When I looked up, my eyes met Shakky’s, who was calmly leaning against the bar.
She was smiling.
Not like a customer.
Like someone who had bet… and won.
I left the stage with my heart racing, my body still vibrating with the music. My fellow dancers, Georgia and Mila, surrounded me immediately.
“Luna, that was incredible!”
I laughed, feeling the warmth rise to my cheeks.
The nights and days were long, noisy, and full of life at the bar. We danced, waited tables, laughed with regulars, and learned how to move among pirates as if we had always belonged there. Georgia had become an expert at dodging wandering hands with a dangerous smile; Mila negotiated tips like a seasoned merchant; and I… I felt the stage was no longer enough. I helped Shakky with everything I could: tidying the bar, serving drinks, listening to stories that smelled of gunpowder and sea.
The Rocks Pirates were quite friendly and among the bar’s most regular customers, considering the island was under their protection. They all drank as if they had no bottom, but they enforced the rules of the place: no fights.
That day there was a huge line of pirates waiting to get into the bar. The girls and I helped Shakky serve food and drinks while the Rocks Pirates laughed and drank nonstop.
“Here’s your order, sir,” I said as I set a plate of beans in front of a pirate who watched me with a slight blush.
“Thank you, sweetheart. I see the beauty in this bar doesn’t fall behind.”
I smiled shyly while wiping my hands on my red apron with the name “LUNA” on it.
“Luna!” I heard Shakky call me from the Rocks Pirates’ table. “Bring the bottle of rum, please.”
“At your service, boss,” I smiled.
“What’s going on, Rocks?” I heard Shakky say to the black-haired man. “You look satisfied, but something tells me your heart doesn’t beat for me. How sad.”
Linlin laughed beside him. “How incredible female intuition is, don’t you think?”
“Silence, Linlin!” the captain snapped, annoyed.
I smiled as I approached the pirates’ table to serve rum.
“Oh, Luna,” I heard Linlin’s lively voice beside me, “when is your next performance?”
“Tonight, Linlin,” I smiled at the pirate. “I’m really excited since there are many customers today.”
“That’s true, we’ve never seen you,” Stussy commented while taking a drink. “I’ve heard you’ve become very popular thanks to your performances, Luna.”
“Ha! But you’ll never be more popular than me, Luna!” Gloriosa exclaimed, tossing her hair.
I laughed, blushing slightly.
“It’s all thanks to Shakky. Without this job, the girls and I would still be dancing in a small bar.”
Newgate laughed beside me.
“LALALALA, at this rate you’ll end up breaking a lot of hearts, Luna!”
“Clearly not yours, since your heart is mine, Newgate!” Stussy exclaimed.
“What are you talking about woman?” the man shouted.
Suddenly, the bar door burst open, letting in several men waving happily.
“Shakky, guess who came to see you!” shouted a man with an open shirt, red coat, and straw hat. “I missed you so much!”
“It’s the Roger Pirates!”
“What are they doing here?”
“Ah, Roger,” Shakky exclaimed.
“UGH, Roger!” Rocks shouted. “What are you doing on my damn island? Get out of here!”
“We’re in Shakky’s bar, and fighting is not allowed here, so shut up, you damn porcupine! I came here to drink,” Roger shouted back.
“Who are they, boss?” I asked curiously, ignoring the pirates’ argument. “Do you know them?”
“They’re the pirates I told you about,” she replied with a smile, starting to blush. Shakky brought her hands to her flushed cheeks. “The pirate crew where Ray is.”
Ah, Rayleigh. Shakky’s eternal love.
“Oh!” I exclaimed excitedly. “That means that—”
“Roger, Roger,” Shakky exclaimed excitedly as she approached Roger, who smiled at her with hearts in his eyes. “Isn’t Ray with you? ♡”
Roger’s smile faded when he heard the question.
“No, he wasn’t feeling well and stayed sleeping on the ship.”
Shakky crossed her arms and lowered her gaze, sad.
“KYA, ROGER ♡” Gloriosa shouted as she threw herself into the pirate’s arms. “Tell me today is the day we finally leave on your ship ♡”
“UGH, Gloriosa. Get off me!” Roger shouted.
I sighed. This was a damn dramatic soap opera.
I started clearing some bottles and empty plates. Those pirates really did eat and drink.
“Luna!” Georgia and Mila came up beside me smiling. “A few more minutes and we’ll get ready.”
I nodded with a smile. “Sure, there are plenty of customers today. We have to be ready.”
“Huh?” I heard the pirate named Roger beside me. Gloriosa was hugging him, but he seemed to ignore her completely. “Who are you?”
“I’m Luna,” I smiled. “Dancer and waitress at the bar. These are my partners, Mila and Georgia.”
Both girls smiled at the pirate.
Roger looked at me, surprised. “A dancer?”
“Luna is the best dancer you’ll ever see in your life,” Georgia replied with a smile. “You’ll fall at her feet the moment you see her dance, pirate.”
Mila nodded with a smile.
“Roger won’t fall for you, Luna!” Gloriosa shouted at me. “Roger is mine!”
Suddenly, Shakky put a hand to her head and collapsed to the floor.
“Boss!” the girls and I shouted as we ran to her. She seemed feverish and was trembling.
“Shakky fainted.”
“Move! I’ll take her ♡”
“No, I’ll take her ♡”
“BACK OFF, SCUM. DON’T TOUCH HER,” Gloriosa shouted furiously.
“Georgia, Mila, take the boss to bed. I think she needs to rest. I’ll take care of things here,” I told the girls, and they nodded.
Gently, I climbed onto the small but gleaming stage and turned on the microphone.
“Hello? Can you hear me?” I tapped the small device while looking at the crowd.
“Loud and clear, Luna-chan! ♡” I heard a pirate say.
“The boss suddenly felt unwell, so she’s gone to rest,” I smiled at the audience. “But don’t worry— in a few minutes the burlesque show will begin! Don’t miss it!”
Excited shouts and pounding on tables echoed through the bar.
“Luna-chan ♡”
“Burlesque?” Roger asked.
Linlin smiled at him “MAMAMAMA, I hope you don’t start drooling over Luna’s performance, Roger. They say she’s one of the best dancers.”
“Captain,” Gaban, one of Roger’s officers, sat beside him. “In recent weeks, Shakky’s bar has become one of the most popular thanks to its new dancers. They say the red-haired girl, Luna, is as charming as Shakky every time she dances. She’s gained a lot of popularity.”
Linlin laughed. “She’s a charming girl, MAMAMAMA.”
Roger watched as the red-haired girl stepped down from the stage and disappeared behind it “Luna, huh?”
“UGH Roger! Are you paying attention to me?” Gloriosa shouted.
I adjusted my red corset with black details while looking at myself in the mirror and smiling. Tonight would be one of the busiest nights at the bar, and I hoped not to disappoint anyone. My black eye makeup and red lips seemed to shine in the mirror, while my outfit fit so precisely that it left plenty to the imagination.
“Luna, you look beautiful!” I heard Georgia’s voice behind me.
“And you too, girls,” I smiled. Both of them wore outfits similar to mine since we would be dancing together today to the song Bad Boy.
“I’m nervous, girls,” Mila said as she joined us. “I think I’ve never seen so many pirates before. And it’s the first time we’ll perform in front of the Rocks Pirates.”
“And the Roger Pirates,” Georgia added with a smile. “Some of them are, wow…”
“We’re not here to get boyfriends, Georgia,” I laughed. “Come on, girls, we have work to do.”
We walked behind the improvised stage as the bar lights dimmed. The laughter and murmurs faded while a reddish light washed over the place.
“Are you ready?” I asked my partners. “Let’s do this.”
Georgia and Mila nodded.
“Let’s make them drool,” Georgia exclaimed.
The stage darkened slightly, and that red light fell over my body like a warning as I walked toward the center of the bar. Mila and Georgia positioned themselves at my sides.
“Is that Luna?” I heard Kaido ask, amazed.
“MAMAMAMA, what a body Luna was hiding,” Linlin laughed as the pirates’ shouts began to fill the bar, many with hearts in their eyes.
“BEAUTIFUL ♡”
“I’LL BUY YOU A DRINK LATER, BEAUTIFUL ♡”
“MARRY ME ♡”
Roger watched the stage with his mouth and eyes wide open, wondering how that employee of Shakky he had met just minutes ago had turned into such a beauty.
“Captain, this is the best day of my life,” Gaban said, blushing beside him.
Suddenly, the melody of Bad Boy began to echo through the place.
I breathed.
The red corset shimmered as I took the first step forward.
♫Ooh, mmh, uh, mmh, mmh. Hey! ♫
I didn’t rush.
I never did with this kind of song.
My hips marked the beat with a slow, controlled, almost defiant movement. I let my shoulders sink softly, my arms trace the air as if shaping it. My lips followed the lyrics in silence, pronouncing each word with intention, with a barely suggested smile.
♫ Who that, who that, who that boy… ♫
The stares were heavy, attentive, expectant. Pirates hardened by the sea leaned forward without realizing it. Some swallowed hard. Others didn’t even blink. I walked across the stage as if it belonged to me. Mila and Georgia followed my steps at my sides as I spun, letting my red hair slide down my back, and when I stopped… I felt it.
That gaze.
I searched the crowd unhurriedly, as if I didn’t know exactly where it was… until I found it.
That pirate who had burst into the bar—Roger.
He wasn’t watching me with anxiety or shamelessness. He was leaning back in his chair, one arm resting on the table, but his eyes… his eyes were completely awake, fixed on me, following every movement as if reading a story written just for him.
The world narrowed.
I stepped closer to the edge of the stage and slightly lowered my face, looking at him from beneath my fake lashes. My fingers slowly traced my arm, marking the rhythm of the song, and when I looked up again—
Our eyes collided.
He didn’t look away as Mila and Georgia stepped in beside me for the chorus.
♫ Every time I come around ♫
♫ Another bad boy down ♫
♫ Got ’em like ooh-ooh ♫
♫ Hit ’em with my love like ooh-ooh ♫
I slid a step back, gently arched my back, and let my hips follow the song’s deep rhythm. Every movement was slow, precise, loaded with intention.
And without meaning to, my eyes returned to that strange pirate with the straw hat watching me so closely.
Roger let out a low laugh, soft, sincere, almost surprised. He leaned slightly forward, resting his elbows on the table, completely caught in the moment.
As the song neared its end, I stepped forward once more to the front of the stage. I stopped. Let the silence stretch a second longer than necessary. My lips mouthed the final word without sound.
♫ I shot another bad boy down ♫
The bar exploded in applause, shouts, and pounding on tables. Those loud, ecstatic pirates looked at us as if we were a piece of meat in the middle of the jungle.
Mila and Georgia ran to my side, excited, hugging me amid the cheers and attention.
“Girls, we did amazing!” Mila shouted.
“MAMAMAMA, what a show!” I heard Linlin laugh.
I smiled as we held hands to bow to the audience and leave the stage amid the shouts.
Before turning to leave, I looked at him one last time—and there he was, looking at me. Unable to help it, I winked at that curious-eyed pirate.
And Roger… smiled.
I stepped down from the stage with my heart racing and my skin still vibrating with the music, feeling my cheeks flush.
It seemed the visit from the Roger Pirates was going to be far more special than I had thought.
