Oh noooo I am being racist to whites again how will I ever live with myself?? /sarcasm.
Maybe just maybe you're holding black characters to impossible standards that you don't do for white characters.

I saw a take that it is racist to ship FinnRey after the Reylo kiss and I’m looking for some help understanding that angle?
Tbh I don't understand that myself so if anyone could help us out that'd be great.

Would you argue Reylo had a lot to do with the ruining of any possible potential the Sequels had?
I don’t really want to make a habit of discussing reylo here because of the fact that it’s a white ship but the short answer is yes.
we finally got a lead jedi who was a woman and not only is she white but she’s constantly threatened and abused by a man she ends up falling for and trying to redeem... Its like they truly don’t understand what feminism is.
thoroughly toxic relationship and the majority of fandom who ships reylo also ships finnpoe because like it conveniently gets rid of both men of color in the movies... yeah between the actual canon racism and the fandom racism I had a really hard time enjoying these movies.

I’ve never watched the Mandalorian so I just want to know is Pedro Pascal the only non white actor (excluding cameos like Rosario Dawson) in the main cast? Because as great as it is to have a Hispanic lead, I don’t consider it a win for representation if it’s just him. A bit like the Mindy Project, yay we have an Indian American lead but what’s the point if she’s still the minority in her own show.
The main cast is pretty much just Pedro and the puppet that plays yodito. So yes he’s the only main cast member of color. However they’ve had lots of recurring parts by PoC like Ming Na Wen, Carl Weathers, Temuera Morrison, and some others whose name I don’t know that are only there for smaller roles on only one episode (most notable is Rosario Dawson).

Controversial opinion: Finn should have been given Luke's green lightsaber. Anakin's blade was always the weapon of a person in transition, making sense for Rey or even Kylo to have it, but the green saber represents someone in the fullness of their own self-understanding. That is Finn
oh love it!~mod a.
So, it’s Star Wars Day. May the Fourth, the day all Star Wars fans come together in peace and love for the franchise... and I can’t seem to get into the celebration. I try and all I can think of is the Sequel Trilogy and just how up-in-arms fandom got about Finn’s existence, the Reylos shameless overcrowding, etc etc etc. It’s like everyone can just bury the hatchet (or maybe act like it doesn’t exist) and I can’t find the will. Is anybody else feeling more melancholy than happy?
I totally know how you feel!!! I wanted so much for Poe and Finn to be more central to the storyline and be the heroes that Luke and Han were but the sequel trilogy just totally failed me. I do however still enjoy the mandalorian and clone wars. I think the news that taika waititi kinda saved the day for me tbh. https://variety.com/2020/film/news/taika-waititi-star-wars-1234597104/
Like I really hated 8 and 9 and my opinion won’t change but I will never stop writing fics for Poe, Finn and Rose. so yeah those movies I’ll only watch to be accurate for my fics at this point.

Oh my god. Yikes. Was George Lucas even aware the “meesa yousa meesa” thing resembled blackface/minstrel speech? It feels like it might have been an accident
well, as the post i linked says:
It may have been unconsciously racist, but it was not coincidentally racist. The odds that George Lucas independently invented a character that is identical to a blackface stock character are about the same that someone would write a song that is word-for-word and note-for-note identical to Bohemian Rhapsody without ever having heard it.
Like, even if we assume that it was totally unintentional, the best-case scenario is that they heard Bohemian Rhapsody, forgot it, and then unwittingly pulled it from their subconscious, believing it to be an original composition, and the worst-case is that they were jut hoping nobody would notice their song is just Bohemian Rhapsody.
it’s not about whether he knew it was racist or not. it’s that, regardless of his intentions, the end product is.
I feel like there are three types of awful Reylos 1. The thinly veiled racist ones 2. The bad boy hot good boy boring ones 3. A mixture of both
i’m not going to lie anon, i think they are all a mixture of 1 and 2.
with the exception of those who are overtly racist and those who don’t excuse his abuse but still ship it. ~mod a.
