No mother is ever completely a child’s idea of what a mother should be, and I suppose it works the other way round as well but despite everything we didn’t do badly by one another. We did as well as most. I wish my mother were here so I could tell her I finally know this, so I could tell her I forgive her. And then ask Hannah to forgive me.

when i was little, i didn't know i was gay, but i knew i wanted to be an actor, and angela bassett was the person i looked up to because she was the one i could see doing it. i want to be able to be that person that people can look up to and say, ‘she's doing it, i can do it, too.’

I never want to pigeonhole myself or get typecast. I'm looking forward to my career and showing all of my range as an actress, and I'm looking at other mediums, too. I'm a theater actress first. And I cannot wait to return to the stage.
