The 1950s Swing Jacket: Simplicity 8245: Reissue of a Reissue

When I spoke at the annual conference of the American Sewing Guild this past July, I got asked a lot about my jacket, but I couldn’t remember exactly which pattern number it was. When I got home, I checked and it was Simplicity 4047, and an ASG sponsored pattern too, but it was out of print. Imagine my delight to find it was just reissued yet again as 8245.

I have made the jacket out of a lofty mohair blend for fall and a silk tweed for spring which I interfaced as yardage (if you're need to interface yardage, set yourself and your ironing board in front of the tv and watch an old movie as this is boring work). So you really need something with a lot of body to it to make this jacket pattern work. I haven’t tried the blouse or skirt as yet.
