Four albums in and Kasabian have finally taken up their position at the summit of the Reading bill, now bona-fide festival veterans the Leicester band are a dab hand at wowing a field full of revellers. The band’s heady mix of good time rock ‘n’ roll and leftfield electronics prove they are one of the UK’s best acts. The performance sees Tom Meighan strutting around the main stage with the crowd in the palm of hand while Serge Pizzorno blasts out interstellar riffs dressed like the dark lord of rock ‘n’ roll resplendent in his ankle length black attire. Their headlining set is a career spanning affair from the terrace chants of ‘LSF (Lost Souls Forever) to the Prodigy aping ‘Switchblade Smiles’ with its stormtrooper-esque stomp. Shoe horned in amongst their hits, Kasabian manage to find time to cover Fatboy Slim’s ‘Praise You’ and Meighan rounded of his bands set with an acapella verson of ‘She Loves You’ by The Beatles. The crowd were in fine voice throughout the headlining set taking over lead vocals on ‘Re-wired’, ‘Underdog’ and set closer ‘Fire’. Tonight Kasabian delivered a triumphant show ensuring their slot at the peak of festivals will be unshakeable for years to come.
