Jim shook his head again, "I don't think that's what this is," he said, and Leo could see him searching for the words. "It's like the universe is a deck of playing cards," he said, "and all the cards are there, but they're shuffled differently this time, dealt in a different way." He opened his hands wide. "Spock says that things are different this time.".... "I'm thinking he ought to be a little more circumspect about sharing what he thinks he knows. This isn't some goddamned science experiment, Jim, where we compare results," Leo said fervently. "This is real life. Our real life."
