Quarantine Chronicles #5
Times are tough. One of the best things about wrestling is the escapism it allows people to have. You have a chance to boo the bad guys' cheer for your favorites. Watch two dudes beat the crap out of each other while another two dudes scream in Japanese. It is a break from reality.
Orange Cassidy is one of my favorite wrestlers. When I watch his matches I am filled with joy. The same way a show like Joe Pera Talks to You or I Think You Should Leave fills me with joy. Every single time I have seen Orange Cassidy wrestle live I have had a smile ear to ear. I am not interested in your opinion on him unless it is “he is the best wrestler ever”. I love him I won’t change my mind.
To break down this match would be silly. It’s a fun match. It is short and fun. So much wrestling is so self-serious it’s draining at times. This isn’t that. This is three dudes having a fun time. Bryce, when paired with Cassidy, is an unstoppable duo. He is the best straight man to Orange’s antics.
Orange is talkative during this and it is a blast. Sometimes, if you watch a lot of his matches, it can feel like Orange Cassidy is doing the same thing over and over again, which is fine it is always funny. It just means when he changes something up in the process it is that much more exciting. In the same way, David Lynch movies will linger on a scene too long when it finally changes into something else it feels so much more important. The last season of Twin Peaks or shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul do this particularly well. Orange Cassidy also does this well.
There are a few more Orange Cassidy matches I might watch during these writings. This one was a fun one to wake up and watch on a gloomy day.
