2017 Writing Roundup

I was tagged by @zombizombi to do a 2017 roundup.

Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 favorite works you’ve created last year (fics, art, edits, etc) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world in 2017. Tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want to swe can spread the love and link each other to awesome works.

1. KVP @ MSG.

Fourteen years before Kent meets Jack, he meets Bad Bob.

I wanted to write Kent’s very first introduction to the world of hockey. This stars a just recently turned 3-year-old Kent, his mom, and his dad. Also featuring Bad Bob. It has Kent being cute and stubborn and being loved by his mom and dad. And it also has Bob being 110% when it comes to his fans.

2. Not Quite Singing in Perfect Harmony.

Bitty held up his phone with one hand and rubbed his eye with the other. “Kent Parson is engaged?”

“Kent’s engaged,” Jack said. He wasn’t sure how he felt about it. Happy for him? Surprised? Something else?

Bitty looked over at Jack and sighed. “Invite him to dinner,” he said.

Bitty held up his phone with one hand and rubbed his eye with the other. “Kent Parson is engaged?”

In which Kent is his hat, his cats, and Las Vegas. Or, in which Kent almost seems happy (summary courtesy of @bardofspades). This was my fic for Kent Parson’s Birthday Bash and an attempt to enemies to friends to possibly more. There are days when I want to go back and change things. There are a few things I wish I had done differently, but I still love this fic and how it turned out. This fic also has one of the greatest things I’ve ever created.

3. Sass Night.

“This is what I get for trying to take care of you,” Swoops said with a laugh.

He knew that the first few weeks after the end of the season were about recovering and relaxing. Eating, sleeping, and not working out. Eventually everything would settle.

This is one of the many fics I started in the chatroom, but one of the few I actually finished. I love Swoops. I love Kent. I love both of them together. It’s just the two of them after the season is done and what they do to unwind.

4. Sweet Somethings.

“Next time, lead with the lights.”

Kent and Swoops go and see the outdoor Christmas Lights on their night off.

This is a real thing in Las Vegas, or at least right outside it. I wrote this after going one night and thought about how cute it would be for these two to see the lights that are set up outside a chocolate factor. Of course, this year was also the year that they set up an “ice rink” for the first time ever. I still sort of wish I named this fic Semisweet Thongs.

5. Keep in Check (Please).

“This could’ve easily been you, Zimms. You could’ve been the one to OD before the draft. You could’ve gone to Samwell. You could’ve taken the long way to get to the NHL.”

Or, Kent’s and Jack’s roles are reversed and Jack goes straight to the NHL and Kent somehow ends up at Samwell.

The story begins with a draft.

Honestly, this summary is a little misleading. If you like Jack and Kent in the Q, I think you’ll like what this fic is so far. It will eventually get to what the summary is summarizing, but that’s a few thousand words from now. This fic is my baby and my monster. I know that I started this in 2016, but I did write chapters of this fic in 2017. I think Chapter 10 in this fic was a pretty good one.

I’m not sure who to tag, because I don’t really have too many author/artist mutuals and I’m pretty sure the ones I do have already have done this. I’m tagging whoever wants to do this! More author/artist love to go around.
