ISABELA: Isabela arrived before anyone else, of course. She had to help set up! And, also, she was planning on thanks the hostesses. This was a classy, upscale event. Which had meant finding a classy, upscale location to lure in the upper crust of Swynlake society.

She was nervous. First, the petition had been rejected.

And now, she wasn't sure what she was going to do if they couldn't raise at least the majority of the funds. She didn't want to ask for private donations--that could get messy, people thinking they had a say in how things were done just because they'd given money.

So, she was grateful to Minnie and Daisy for hosting. And, as usual, she was prepared with a beautiful boutique of neon flowers--birds of paradise, pansies, winter holly, camillas--

Standing in the front yard before knocking on the door, she wove her hands, to create the bouquet…

And nothing happened.

Her hands remained empty. No flowers bloomed.

Isabela felt her stomach clench. She tried again, waving her hands to produce the beautiful bouquet she held in her mind's eye.

Nothing.

Again and again she tried until she a bead of sweat dropped from her brow and she was able to produce a single purple pansy. She clenched it in her fist, crumbling the petals. Tears stung at her eyes, but she'd already done her make up. She couldn't cry. She wouldn't cry.

Coming up the steps, she knocked on the door, taking a breath and smiling as it opened. "Hey! I am so excited," she said, forcing the enthusiasm as she kissed Daisy's cheek.

KEN: Ken didn’t stick around long after Mary had agreed, knowing he was already pushing it. Last thing he needed was for the demon to return and find him talking to her. He took the long way around the block, rounding the building on the corner beside Hatter’s to give himself some time to calm down before he returned to Isabela.

Entering the park, he smiled and nodded at people as they celebrated the New Year, wishing him a happy one as he passed them by.

Oh how he wished that was possible.

When he returned to the spot he had left Isabela in, she wasn’t there. He frowned, though not necessarily surprised that she had moved.

He kept walking, now paying more attention to the moving bodies around him, searching for her within the crowd. Should he call her? Oh no— what if something had happened in the time he had been away? His stomach turned at the thought and he picked up his pace, head on a swivel.

KEN: For the first time in possibly ever, Ken did not want to go out. He didn’t want to celebrate, he didn’t want to see people, or participate in a town event.

It was an awful feeling, wanting to just go home and crawl into his bed, hide under the blankets and hope that somehow this past year had been a dream. That he was going to wake up and 2024 was going to start again– only the way it should have been. With the deal having been broken, the demon gone, and his mom would be alive but still revoked his place at the table so he could be in Swynlake and just…exist.

But alas, there he was standing outside, following Isabela around with a notable droop in his shoulders, waiting for the midnight to finally hit and take this year with it. He was trying to be good company but it was just so hard. The demon hadn’t tried anything but Ken could feel it hovering, wanting to step in, but it was waiting for something. And Ken was scared to know what.

“Whoa!” he said, stepping out of the way as a pair of teenagers came sprinting by. Ken blinked, turning to watch them go, and then looked back at Isabela as he took his place by her side once more. “Where’s the fire? Er– wait, I shouldn’t say that, should I? I’ll jinx the night or something.”

KEN: Ken was actually having a good day– all things considered. It was hard not to be having one when something as wholesome as the Gingerbread Competition that Isabela had put together was going on. He had been in awe at some of the things the people in this town had made with cookies. Seriously, had everyone seen the freaking castle the Rock Shoppe had made?? Ken hadn’t even known that was possible to make out of edible stuff! He had probably spent a good half hour circling around that thing while he waited for Isabela to find him, just absolutely gobsmacked.

But she had found him, and he had probably talked her ear off about how amazing this whole thing was while they’d wandered down one of the hallways.

Just as he was about to ask if she’d gotten to eat anything from the potluck yet, he got distracted by something shiny. Ken turned his head as they passed by and a present sitting beside an open door. It was on its side, bow pressing against the wall oddly, like it had fallen off of something. He paused, unlooping his arm that had been tucked around Isabela so he could dip down to pick it up, surprised by how heavy and shifting the weight was within the box, and search for a tag of some sort. When there was none, he looked into the room and saw a kid sitting in the bed, looking down at a book in her lap.

He turned back to Isabela, eyebrows arching in a silent question.

Work Bitch || Kelly

Tallulah hated doing her own clerical work. She was a creative and these stacks of papers were only growing as days went on that she hadn’t hired a PA. The designer was struggling to put ideas into her spring line sketchbook when most of her time was spent at The Boutique. Which, she totally wasn’t complaining! She loved her business like it was her firstborn child! 

However, it definitely put her creative endeavors on the back burner. 

The redhead sat in her cushy pink office chair behind the stacks, staring glumly into the mess. She shot up in her seat when someone entered her office, all the way in the back of the shop. Who just let someone back here?!?! Annie?!?! Papers toppled over, but Tallulah let them. She can’t be fucked to care about them anymore. Especially not after she recognized the person standing in her all but pristine office! 

“Ken?!?! Oh my god, how are you? What brings you to my girl cave?” Tallulah rapid fire greeted, getting up to give him a cheery hug.
