Sylvius Leopold Weiss (1686-1750)
Weiss came from Breslau (Wroclaw) in Poland. He wrote exclusively for the lute and was an exceedingly accomplished performer. He spent some time in Italy until his employer died, and in 1718, was appointed a very lucrative position as court lutenist in Dresden by August the Strong. He held this post for thirty-two years.
