"Mav! Maaav! C'mon, Mav, I'm tired!" You called, shoulders slumped as you walked around the forest, exhausted.
"I have some treats for you if you come back! It's getting late! Pleaseeee!"
You and your dog, Maverick, were home alone when all of a sudden his ears perked up.
He began to pace, sniffing all around before going to grab his leash and bringing it back to you with expectant eyes.
Thinking he just wanted to go on a walk, you complied, immediately regretting it after a comet whizzed by and he went chasing after it.
So now here you were, aimlessly walking through the woods, freezing, trying to look for your lost dog.
"Maverick, if you don't come back this instant you won't get walkies for a week! I mean it!" You tried again, sighing when you were once again met with silence.
'This is hopeless. It's getting really late and I can't stay out here by myself any longer. I might just have to go home and try searching tomorrow.'
Just then, you heard a loud whirring sound from behind the bushes not too far away.
It almost sounded like one of those laser guns from the sci-fi movies you used to watch as a kid.
'Huh?'
Warily, you ducked into the bush, poking out your head on the other side to see a man in an odd uniform and helmet aiming some sort of gun at the trees.
'Double huh?'
The more you looked, the more confused you got.
Behind him was what looked like a crashed ship, and some girl in a dress had stepped out of it.
"Princess!" The man exclaimed, ripping off his helmet and holding his breath as he ran over to her, placing it on her head instead.
Much to her protest.
He fell to his knees and let go of the breath in a flurry of coughs, realizing he could breathe.
'Random comet...mysterious man...crashed ship...princess? Could this be...?'
"Are you crazy? You could've died," the man scolded, standing up and glaring at the princess.
"The robot scanned the atmosphere. I am fine," she scoffed, taking off his helmet.
Suddenly, a large, clear sphere hovered out of the ship wreck, and floated over to them, forming a body.
"My name is Octus. And, yes, the atmosphere is practically identical to our own planet," the robot agreed.
'ALIENS?!'
"Great. But still, the king made me responsible for your safety," the man glared, snatching his helmet back from the princess.
'This is too much to take in. There are aliens standing right in front of me, but they don't look like aliens. They look human.'
You narrowed your eyes, trying to study their faces despite the darkness.
And after your eyes moved from the princess, they landed on the guard-man.
'Whoa.'
Finally having a chance to get a good look at him, he was handsome. Incredibly so.
Broad chest, small waist, dark eyes.
Heavenly.
Blushing, you looked away for a moment to get a hold of yourself.
'Weren't aliens supposed to be those little, green men?'
Trying to focus back on their conversation, you heard a few odd things.
Something about a planet called Galaluna, the guard-man being a corporal, and a rift gate.
Suddenly, he shushed them, the sound of incoming helicopters overshadowing their conversation.
Just then, the blinding white of its spotlight shone down on the aliens, making you look away as well.
'I know when to leave a party. This just went from bad to worse. I'll have to come back for Maverick later!'
As the aliens were distracted, you stood up, spotting the incoming troops that were walking up the hill.
"SHIT!" You whisper-yelled, ducking again.
'Those aliens look just like us. If I get caught here those guys might take me to some black site or somethin'!'
"Get her out of here!" The guard-man ordered, the robot suddenly encasing the princess and rolling away, avoiding the gunfire.
Quickly, you got down on your stomach, turning around to army crawl yourself away from the situation.
"Military school, don't fail me now," you muttered.
Just then, a giant boom shook the ground, nearly sending you flying, and you turned around, eyes going wide, to see that the guard-man had turned into this gigantic robot and was now fighting off the army.
"No. Frickin'. Way," you gasped, utterly dumbfounded.
You could only sit there in shock, the idea of escape completely leaving your brain.
The robot-man made this gigantic sword out of nowhere, and began flinging it around before another, smaller and yellower, robot swooped in and stepped in front of one of the tanks he was about to destroy.
'Huh?'
"Lance, stop! They're not Mutraddi! They're humanoid!" The familiar voice of the princess exclaimed.
"Moo-traaty?" You wondered, testing out the word.
"This just keeps getting weirder and weirder."
"Arf! Arf!" Maverick yowled, coming out of nowhere and biting onto your hoodie sleeve, dragging you away.
He was a very strong German Shepard.
"Glad to see you could make it," you thanked sarcastically, him letting out a happy yelp as you stood up and began running away with the canine.
"Don't get it twisted, buddy. You are so dead when we get home."
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
'Last night had to be a dream. There's no way all of that stuff actually happened. I must've fell asleep watching some space movie or somethin'.'
You turned up the music of your iPod, trying to drone out the squeals of the cheerleaders you passed.
It was the next day, and despite your weird encounter from the previous night, which you were avidly denying happened, time marched on, and you had school.
Quickly, you turned the combo to your locker and opened it, grabbing an energy drink and walking towards your classroom.
'Ugh. Too bad I slept like shit.'
Just like that, the bell rang, and you stepped into class
"Here we go," you sighed, taking your seat in the back corner and kicking up your feet, taking a long sip of your drink.
'Tuning out in 3...2...1...'
"Class, we have a new student joining us today. Lance Lunas," Mrs. Ackerman introduced, your eyes bugging out at the sight of the man before you.
'HOLY SHIT!'
It was the man from your dream last night.
The guard.
You gasped, inhaling some of your drink and sending yourself into a coughing fit.
"Miss (l/n), is there a problem?" Mrs. Ackerman addressed, cocking a brow.
"Nope! Not one. Carry on," you quickly answered, regaining your composure.
"Thank you. Anyways, Lance, care to tell the class a little bit about yourself?" She asked, turning to the alien-boy.
He glared, giving her one of the nastiest side eyes you've ever seen, "No."
"Well in that case, you can take a seat in the back next to Miss (l/n)," Mrs. Ackerman instructed before returning to the start of her lesson.
The boy stalked over to his seat, plopping himself down with a scowl and seemingly tuning out the lesson as well.
'So last night wasn't a dream, and this hot guy sitting next to me is an alien. This is awesome! I gotta talk to him. I didn't think aliens would be able to speak the same language as we do.'
"Hey," you whispered, discreetly leaning over to the boy, earning a deadly glare from him.
But you paid it no mind.
"Sorry for interrupting your little introduction up there. You just look incredibly familiar to me."
He huffed, fixing his gaze back on the board, "It's fine."
'Icy. ...I like it.'
You looked back up at the board as well, a smirk coming to your lips as you got another idea.
'Round 2.'
"So, did you see that comet that fell last night?" You smiled, turning to him again.
His breath hitched and his shoulders tensed ever so slightly.
"No," he answered curtly, avoiding your gaze.
You smirked, "There's no way. That thing was huge. I heard it crashed in the woods. Was thinkin' about checkin' it out later tonight-." "Don't!" He quickly interrupted, grabbing the attention of the entire class.
Embarrassed, he looked down at his desk, waiting until everyone stopped looking.
'He's adorable~.'
"Just don't," he stated, quieter this time, "The woods can be dangerous at night."
Just then, the bell rang, and you happily stood up, throwing your messenger bag over your shoulder.
"Thanks for the concern, blue boy. I'll think about it," you smiled, turning around to walk out.
"See you around, Lance."
He huffed, turning away from you as you walked away, a fangirly smile on your face.
'I JUST FLIRTED WITH AN ALIEN!'
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
Walking down the hallway, jamming to your music, you noticed another familiar face.
It was the princess. And she was standing next to this incredibly tall and square nerdy looking guy.
'No way. She's here, too? I don't recognize the guy, though. Maybe he's the robot in disguise.'
Smiling, you decided to walk over, leaning up against a locker.
"Hey, are you two new here?" You asked, cocking a brow.
The girl smiled, her demeanor quickly perking up, "Yes! My name is Ilana Lunas. And this here is Newton."
"Hello," the boy robotically waved.
'Lunas, eh?'
"Nice to meet you. I'm (y/n), but call me (y/n/n)," you smiled, "Hey, wait, you wouldn't happen to have a brother named Lance Lunas, would you?"
"I would. You know Lance?" She asked, turning her head in confusion.
"Just met him in my last class. Real charmer," you smirked sarcastically as you pointed your thumb at your classroom.
"Say, next period's lunch. You guys wanna sit with me? I can tell you a little bit about the school if you'd like."
Ilana smiled widely, "We'd love to! Please, lead the way."
"You got it," you smiled back, the three of you starting down the hallway.
"Hey, Ilana? You ever had a Monster?"
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
"Just ignore the people here. Most of them are jerks anyway," you assured with a shrug.
Ilana had just finished describing in detail how her day has gone so far, and if you were being honest, it's been pretty crappy.
"I just hope Lance is having a better day," Ilana sighed as the three of you walked into the lunchroom.
"I don't think so," Newton stated, pointing to the group of jocks that were approaching his lunch table.
"Crap, he pissed off the football team," you sighed, facepalming.
"Oh no," Ilana gasped.
"This table is reserved," Mike Holden spat, glaring down at the alien-boy.
But Lance was silent in response, doing nothing but glaring right back.
"I said this table is reserved!"
Mike smashed his fists down on the table, but Lance jumped out the way, back-flipping onto Jordan Scott's head and kicking Micheal Keys in the face.
"Whoa," you stared, wide-eyed and mesmerized.
He smashed his elbow into Jordan's face and then jumped off, sending a huge flying kick into Mike's face, all three boys now down for the count.
'Adding fighting prowess to his pros list.'
The entire cafeteria erupted in cheers, you following Ilana and Newton through the crowd.
"Weren't we supposed to be keeping a low profile?" Ilana cockily whispered to her brother, though you managed to hear.
He rolled his eyes, brushing her off with a small smirk.
"Hey, blue boy," you smiled, waving from your spot next to Newton.
"That was awesome! Where did you learn to fight like that?"
"I-." His sentence was interrupted by a huge rumbling, a gigantic, fiery comet whizzing past the giant window of the cafeteria.
'More aliens?'
"They followed us here?" Lance whispered to the other two.
"I'm afraid so," Newton sighed.
"The TV!" You quickly stated, leading the three over to the cafeteria's TV where the news was covering the sudden appearance of a giant fire monster that was rampaging towards the city.
'Lance and them were able to turn into those crazy robots, right? Maybe they can stop this thing.'
You turned to them, noticing the guilt that held true on Ilana's face.
'Ugh! But asking them to help could blow my cover.'
Turning back to the TV screen, you watched as the fire monster stepped on a building, smashing it as if it were cardboard.
'Worth it.'
"Guys, look," you started turning to them.
You knew no one else was listening because everyone was too busy running away.
"I know you all are aliens."
Ilana and Newton gasped, but Lance glared at me, stepping in front of Ilana in a defensive position.
If looks could kill, you would be slaughtered.
"But please believe me, I have no intention of hurting you. At all," you quickly caught.
"Now, I don't know if you guys are gonna probe me or do whatever but I ask that you please turn into those robot things from before and stop that... thing. I don't know if it's on your side or not, but please get rid of it. A lot of good, innocent people live in that city."
Ilana turned to Lance, pleadingly, "We have to do something."
"We can't. We're in hiding, remember?" Lance denied.
"Look at that!" The newscaster exclaimed, cutting to a clip of the monster stepping on yet another building.
Your eyes went wide and you hands quickly covered your mouth in shock.
'All those people...'
"I know what my father ordered you to do. But that thing is here because of me. These people are suffering because of me," Ilana retorted firmly.
"I understand. But we have to remain hidden. If we attack, the Mutraddi will know we're here. They'll send more beasts, more poachers," Lance denied once again.
"I'm afraid I must concur with Lance. The risk is too great. We should let the Earth defend itself," Newton agreed, the screen showing a fireball crashing into the street.
"Hate to break it to you guys but Earth tech is definitely not as," you paused, your hand motioning to Newton, "advanced as yours. We have absolutely no way of defending ourselves against a threat like this."
When you were met with silence, you huffed, eyebrows furrowing as you turned around and booked it out the cafeteria.
"Then I'll do it by myself!" You exclaimed, turning the corner.
"(y/n/n)!" Ilana called.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
'Shit, shit, shit, shit. What was that thing Sergeant McKellen used to say? Something like..."A cowardly general can have a mountain moved, but a courageous soldier can move the mountain himself."'
As you ran through downtown, rifle you grabbed from home in hand, you could already feel the life flashing before your eyes.
'Bullshit.'
The monster stood not too far in front of you, roaring in the faces of the Air Force jets whizzing around in the sky.
'If I can lead him away from the city, then maybe the army can take care of him.'
"Hey, ugly!" You shouted as you shot at the monster's face, the boom click click of your rifle making you flinch.
The thing roared, rearing its head at you and making your blood run cold.
'Don't lose your nerve.'
"Come and get me, you fiery jerk!" You shouted again, turning to run towards the forest as you set off more shots into the sky.
Angry, it began to chase you, swinging its arms into building and destroying them as if they were nothing.
'SHIT! I DIDN'T THINK THIS THROUGH!'
Just as the monster was about to step on you, a familiar, yellow mech whizzed by, blasting him with a large, blue laser.
"Ilana!" You cheered with a smile, relieved.
She blasted him with another laser, but that only made him angry, the monster grabbing a building and throwing at her, pinning her under rubble.
"Ilana!" You shouted, worried as you ran over and tried to lift the rubble.
It was about to hit you two with a fireball when suddenly Lance's mech flew in, weaving through it's attacks and distracting it.
"(y/n/n)!" Ilana exclaimed from the suit.
"Don't worry, girl, I'll get you outta here," you strained, trying desperately to lift the largest piece.
"Maybe I can be of assistance," a familiar monotone interrupted, you turning to see the clear robot you saw from last night.
"Octus!" You and Ilana smiled.
Octus got the big pieces, while you moved the smaller ones, Lance coming to join the effort after being thrown away by the monster.
Suddenly, the monster breathed a huge breath of fire, Lance quickly pushing you out the way of its blast.
"Guys!" You exclaimed, concerned.
But Octus suddenly grew larger, a tractor beam pulling Lance and Ilana into him to form this humongous mech.
"Whoa," you gaped.
The two began a epic battle, the fiery monster destroying nearly half the city, before the gang was able to subdue it, killing it in the water.
Ecstatic, you quickly hijacked someone's motorcycle, riding as quickly as you could towards the woods as the crew escaped from the army.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
Finding them, separated, you jumped off the bike, running over to them and giving them a big hug.
"You guys were awesome! You guys saved the city and looked super cool doing it! I didn't know you guys could make that giant robot," you cheesed, backing out of it.
"To be honest we didn't know either. But I'm glad we could help," Ilana smiled.
"I-." "Don't think we forgot what you said earlier. I want you to tell me everything you know, now," Lance curtly interrupted, crossing his arms.
You were surprised at his straight-forwardness, but understood.
"Of course," you nodded, "I was looking for my dog that ran away in the forest when I found you guys. At first I thought you guys were human until I noticed the weird getup and the spaceship."
He cocked a brow.
"I was gonna just turn around and mind my own business but then you guys started talking about princesses and Galalunas and Moo-traatys that I just couldn't help myself. But I swear that I haven't told a soul. As far as I know, the only people that saw you were me, my dog, and the army."
"The army? Is that the name of Earth's defenses?" Newton asked.
"Yup. We have a whole bunch of branches, too. I know a lot about them 'cause I grew up in a military academy," you nodded.
"So you're a soldier? Then what are you doing at Sherman Highschool?" Lance asked as well, in a much nicer, but still stoic, tone.
"On Earth, it's required of you to finish high school before you can pursue a decent job. So once I finish high school, I'm gonna join the marines, a branch of Earth's defenses," you smiled, happy he was warming up to you.
Ilana stepped forward, rubbing her chin thoughtfully, "You seem to know a lot about this planet. Do you think you could be our guide?"
You smiled wildly, but quickly cleared your throat and regained your composure.
"On one condition," you started, your tone turning serious.
Ilana and Newton listened in, Lance cocking a brow.
"I want to know for certain that you guys aren't invading this place-." "We aren't. Galaluna would never," Ilana quickly assured.
'Good to know.'
"And I want to know everything. Why you're here? What happened on your home planet? I can't help you very much if I don't know what's going on," you finished.
Lance scoffed, "How do we know you're not gonna rat us out to your army?"
"You don't," you stated plainly, "But you have my word that I won't tell a single soul. Scout's honor."
You smiled, your hand on your heart and two fingers up.
Ilana smiled, looking pleadingly at the two boys as they contemplated, you joining in on the puppy dog eyes.
Lance glanced at you, you sadly batting your eyelashes, before he caved.
"Fine," he sighed.
"Yeah!" You and Ilana cheered, hugging.
"Oh, you guys are gonna love Earth," you smiled, throwing an arm around Ilana.
"I can totally show you the ropes."
"Why do I get the feeling that this is going to be exhausting?" Lance grumbled.
You flinched at the sound of Lance slamming his tray down on the table, him angrily sitting himself down.
"Someone's madder than usual," you teased, taking a bite of your hoagie.
Ilana looked down at his plate, disgusted by the green mush he was shoveling into his mouth.
"How can you eat this stuff?" She asked, concerned.
Newton did a scan of the food.
"Nitrates, magnesium, mono-sodium glutamate. Actual meat content: one percent," he reported.
"Did not need to know that," you sighed.
'Thank God I get my food from a place.'
"One percent. That's horrible. People shouldn't be eating this," she suddenly stood up, "I have to do something."
"OhmygoshIlanapleasenothere-." "Excuse me, everyone! Hello! Everybody stop!" She interrupted you, standing up on the table.
"Oh my God, she's doing it," you groaned, covering your face.
"This food is unsafe, unhealthy! I think change is needed. I think it's time to demand healthier food. I wanna help. And we can start by creating a new school menu. Something nutritious. A healthy body means a healthy mind. We can band together and make this happen! Who's with me!?"
"I am!" Newton announced, standing up on his seat.
Lance facepalmed, and you dropped your head onto the table.
'I'll have to talk to her about social cues later.'
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
"Smells like food in here. Whatchu guys makin'?" You smiled, walking into the kitchen.
"We thought we'd create some new menu items to petition to the school," Ilana answered, Newton pulling out a pan of something from the oven.
"Here we are. Fresh garin koto. I've substituted the Galalunian ingredients with Earth items, but it should be just as good," Newton stated.
"Galaluna? Now I'm interested," you awed, leaning over to smell the food.
Just then, Lance came thumping down the steps, walking into the kitchen as well.
"Octus, did anything come through the rift gate yet?" He asked.
"Not since you asked me ten minutes ago," the robot answered.
'Someone's getting antsy.'
"Hey! This gives you some time to try some of our new menu ideas," Ilana smiled, grabbing his arm.
"No, I'm not," he dismissed.
"C'mon, grumpy! You're gonna love it," she insisted.
"I made red beans with yam foo foo," Newton smiled.
You perked, "Really?"
"I said no!" Lance exclaimed, ripping his arm from Ilana and storming off, the pot on the stove ironically exploding as well.
"Lance, wait-." "Give him some time. I think Earth life is a little slower than Galulunian life. He just needs some time to adjust," you warmly smiled, placing an assuring hand on her shoulder.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
"Come to the food party. You don't have to eat slop anymore," you smiled, handing someone a flier.
"Delicious food, all for you to eat. Stop by at the food party."
Ilana sent you ahead to school early so the team could get a head start on passing out the fliers for the tasting party she was throwing, and you were happy to help.
Just then, you saw Lance not too far away, handing out fliers as well.
With a smile.
'No way.'
"Hey, Lance," you greeted, walking over to him. "I'm surprised you let Ilana talk you into passing out fliers."
"Hey, (y/n/n)," he waved. "I just figured I do her a favor. She is trying to help the school."
Your eyes went wide and your jaw practically hit the floor.
'(y/n/n)? He never calls me that. And he's expressing emotions that aren't anger and misery? Something's up.'
Just then, he was swarmed by a crowd of people, all of which forcing you to the back with Ilana and Newton.
"I don't get it," she sighed.
"Dark hair, bedroom eyes, moody demeanor. I totally get it," Newton smiled.
"And so does everyone else," you muttered, crossing your arms and turning away from the scene in front of you.
You couldn't deny, something was stirring in you at the sight of all those girls fawning over him, and it didn't feel good.
"At least we'll have a good turn out," Ilana smiled. "Anyway, did you guys hear about that Phantom Ninja on the news this morning?"
You perked, "Phantom Ninja? Who's that?"
"Some man went out last night and saved a hostage from a robbery, and beat up the culprits," she explained.
"Huh, odd," you nodded, glancing at Lance out the corner of your eye.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
After weeks of this ninja nonsense, and Lance being out of it constantly, you connected the dots and figured out that he was the Phantom Ninja.
While helping Ilana and Octus pack the car for the party later that night, Lance came walking out the house.
"I'll be right back, guys," you smiled at the two, walking over to Lance and grabbing him by his arm, pulling him to the side of the house.
"Hey, what're you-?" "Lance, I know you're the Phantom Ninja," you sighed.
His breath hitched, but he kept his composure, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"You smile whenever a report about you comes up on the news," you cocked a brow, crossing your arms.
"You're out of it during the day, you're doing your Batman thing by night. This type of schedule isn't sustainable. Your body is going to shut down. What happens if your body gives out during a monster attack?"
"My body is fine," he retorted, crossing his arms.
"It's not just your body, but the fact that you're not supposed to be doing what you're doing anyway. Vigilante justice is illegal here. While I appreciate the passion in keeping the city safe, it's not your responsibility. But defending from otherworldly invaders is your responsibility. You gotta save yourself for when the real threats happen."
He sighed, trying to keep a hard face but clearly showing that he knew you were right.
"Look, I'm not gonna boss you around. You do whatever helps you cope with living on Earth. But I just want you to know there are other options, too. Like I said a couple weeks ago, we can spar if you want. I promise I'm a challenge," you smiled.
He cracked a small smile, "I'll think about it."
"Think about it?" You scoffed. "Sounds like someone's scared to me."
His facial expression quickly changed, "I am not scared," he firmly denied.
"Sure sounds like it," you taunted.
"I-." "C'mon, guys! We don't want to be late~" Ilana smiled, running out the house and into the car.
"Coming!" You called before turning back to Lance.
"Your hero stuff better be put on hold for tonight, though. Ilana worked really hard on this party and as far as I can tell from school, most of the attendants are only coming 'cause of you," you poked his chest.
"I'll be there," he assured.
"You better be," you sighed, turning around and walking towards the car.
"I'm gonna take a quick shower but I'll catch up with you guys," Lance stated.
"See you there. I put your outfit on your bed," you waved, hopping in the backseat and giving Octus the okay to drive off.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
"I'll kill him," you growled, doing another scan of the party to see that Lance was nowhere to be found.
He was late by an hour and a half and the party guests were starting to get antsy.
'I got all dressed up for this, too.'
You wore a black, long-sleeved, turtle-neck dress that came up to your mid-thigh, with some simple black heels to match.
"Where is he?" Ilana asked, concerned.
"I'll call him again," Newton stated.
"I thought Lance was gonna be here," Brittney Stone asked with a scowl, her and her best friend, Stacy McGinnis, walking up to you.
"He is...or...he's supposed to be," Ilana answered.
"So he's not coming?" Stacy cocked a brow.
Newton and Ilana shared a sad look, and Brittney scoffed.
"I can't believe we wasted our Friday night on this," she glared at Ilana.
"And I'll waste you if you don't start showing some respect. You were invited to the party, not to see Lance," you spat, furrowing your eyebrows.
"Pfft. What-ever," Stacy scoffed, rolling her eyes and walking away.
You turned to Ilana with begging eyes but she glared at you, "No violence."
Sucking your teeth, you watched as all of the party guests began to file out one by one, until no one was left in the gym except for you three.
"How could Lance do this?" Ilana asked sadly, watching as one of her banners fell.
"At least we have a lot of foo foo to eat....right?" Newton tried to cheer her up.
"Too soon, Newton, too soon," you sighed.
Just then, the doors to the gym swung open to reveal an alien, and you and Newton quickly jumped in front of Ilana.
The thing screeched, using one of it's tentacles to throw Newton into a wall.
"Bazooka!" You quickly remembered, dashing over to the corner of the room where you hid it, Ilana holding off the creature in her mech suit.
You grabbed it and set it up, aiming just in time for Ilana to get slammed into a wall.
"Get away from her!" You shouted, shooting the gun and hitting a bullseye on the alien.
It let out a deafening screech and quickly let go of Ilana, roughly pinning you to the wall instead.
Your head throbbed painfully, and you could feel the blood oozing down your forehead.
'Oh, shit.'
"Any last words?" The alien smirked, revealing a razor-sharp tentacle.
"(y/n/n)!" Ilana exclaimed.
Just as the creature was about to stab you, Lance's mech burst in and punched it away, you roughly hitting the floor.
"(y/n), I-." "Shut up and go get the alien," you strained, weakly sitting yourself up against the wall.
He zipped off to go catch up with the others and you sighed, touching your forehead and seeing the nasty, red liquid.
'This...was a huge wake up call. Maybe I'm not cut out for this stuff. These guys are trained soldiers and indestructible robots and warrior princesses and I'm just...me. Maybe I'm more of a hindrance than help.'
Once the battle was won, the three came rushing back to you, your sorry state making Ilana gasp as she took off her mech.
"Octus, what's her vitals?" Lance asked, kneeling next to you and carefully grabbing your chin, turning your head to check for any other injuries.
"Heart rate is accelerated. Only some minor contusions and a small laceration on the forehead. Other than that all other vitals are normal," Octus reported.
"It is not safe for her to walk in this condition. I will carry her."
"I got it, Octus," Lance sighed, scooping you up bridal style and starting the walk home.
"(y/n/n), I am forever grateful to you. You saved my life today," Ilana sorrily smiled, a good hint of guilt on her face.
"No sweat, Lana. What're friends for," you assured with a weak smile.
Lance slowed his walk, allowing Octus and Lana to get out of earshot before he began.
"(y/n), I-." "I asked for one thing, Lance. Show up to Ilana's party. And you don't," you interrupted curtly.
"You went crime fighting, didn't you? And I'm guessing you got captured by the creature?"
He hung his head and you sighed again, your eyes traveling down to his wrist, which had a bone sticking out under the skin.
"Oh my God, Lance! Your wrist! The monster did that?!" You exclaimed, all ideas of scolding going out the window.
"I did that. It was the only way I could escape," he stated plainly.
'Holy shit.'
"You shouldn't be carrying me like this. I can walk-." "Stop," he dismissed, tightening his grip to keep you still.
You looked up at him, eyes wide.
"You did what I couldn't today. You saved Ilana. If you didn't do what you did, my sole objective for this mission would've been destroyed," he started, keeping eye contact.
It made you red in the face, figuratively and literally.
"This is the least I can do to thank you."
You smiled, resting your cheek on his chest, "You're letting me patch you up when we get home."
He cracked a smile, ".....You too."
He paused, averting his eyes from you for a moment before clearing his throat.
"Nice dress."
"Thanks, blue boy."

"All that work," Ilana sighed, you, her, and Newton coming across a stray banner that was still on the floor.
Returning to school on Monday, the cafeteria and gym were partially destroyed, leaving large, gaping holes in the roof.
Octus gave you a special patch for your head to stop the bleeding, and you used some of your training to give Lance a cast.
"If only Lance had just come."
"I know that foo foo looks bland and boring, and you're probably wondering, why eat it?" Lance explained from behind the counter, serving lunch.
His eyes suddenly looked up to see you, and he smiled a full smile, making your stomach do back-flips.
"But then you take a bite, and realize, that the blandness is a vital part of the meal, and is necessary to keeping everybody healthy."
He plopped some foo foo on Stacy's plate and she batted her eyelashes at him before walking away, the three of you walking up to him.
"You guys did some real good today," you smiled, Lance plopping some food on your tray.
Glancing up at Lance, you gave him a warm smile.
"I'm proud."
He smiled once again, and for a second you could've sworn you saw something pink on his cheeks, but decided to pay it no mind.
"I think this is the one," the realtor, Max, smiled. "It has everything you're looking for."
"We appreciate your help," Octus, in the form of a middle aged man, smiled from the corner.
He was rubbing the walls for some particular reason.
"Well, it wasn't easy finding a home with your unique specifications. A balcony with an enchanting view of the villagers, 360 degree, unobstructed vantage point to every part of the house, and an electrical capacity exceeding 5000 amps?" Max listed, quite confused.
"5021 amps to be exact," Octus corrected.
Max turned to you with a cocked brow, and you shrugged.
"They're not from here. Europeans, am I right?" You smirked, giving him a little nudge. "I'm just here to help them out."
You both turned the corner to see Lance staring out the window, watching the people and cars go by.
"As you can see, the neighborhood is very safe-." "Shush!" Lance quickly hushed, watching a boy kick a ball in the street, only for the person in the oncoming car to come to a complete stop.
"Be careful, Timmy," she smiled.
"Oooookay," Max turned around, walking off somewhere else.
You quickly walked over to Lance, giving him a soft smack in the arm.
"What was that for?" He glared, rubbing the area.
"You can't just shush people here, Lance. It's rude," you scolded, pinching the bridge of your nose.
He huffed, turning his gaze back to outside, where he saw a father hugging his son, and his expression fell.
"Thank you so much for your kindness and showing us this wonderful home," Ilana smiled, rushing over and giving Max a hug, "I know it holds many cherished memories from those who've lived in it. I think it's the place for us."
"Agreed," Octus chimed, "It meets all our needs."
"It'll do for now," Lance stated.
"Alright. I guess the next step is to apply for the home loan," Max started.
"There is no need for that," Newton assured, forming a money dispenser on his back and printing a giant stack of hundreds.
'Cool!'
"We will be paying cash."
"Fine. Here are the keys and I'll send someone else over with the paperwork," Max sighed, stuffing the money in his bag, handing Ilana the keys, and walking out.
"Yo, Octus, you gotta lend me that money thing some time," you smiled.
"We have a house!" Ilana cheered.
"Octus, get our computer grid and monitoring system up and running. I'll secure the perimeter. Princess and (y/n), stay out the way," Lance ordered, walking away.
"We will not. Our home needs furnishings. We need to create a home-like appearance to blend in with this society," she combated.
"The Mutraddi have taken control of our planet. There may be more creatures. We have to get this place ready to withstand any attack," he narrowed his eyes, walking back over.
"Sure, but don't you think it'll look odd if we start digging trenches around the house?" She cocked a brow.
"Isn't the whole point of us being here so we can hide and blend in with Earth life? Isn't that the reason that we accepted (y/n/n)'s help? The more normal we appear, the harder it'll be to find us."
"Your father entrusted me with your safety, that's the first priority," Lance glared.
"I agree. Keeping you out of harm's way is our mission," Octus chimed.
Suddenly, the door rang.
"We're under attack!" Lance exclaimed, him and Octus going back to back with Ilana in between them.
"Guys, it's a doorbell," you sighed, walking towards the door. "People ring it to let you know that there's someone waiting for you to open the door."
You got the door, only to reveal Barb from across the street.
'Aw, shit.'
"(y/n/n)! What're you doing here?" She loudly announced, her perma-smile plastered proudly on her face.
"Hi, Barb. I'm just helping the Lunas family move in," you fakely smiled.
Barb was incredibly nice, but she could be a little...much.
"Welcome to the neighborhood, neighbors! I'm Barb. But you can call me Barb! Ha!" She laughed, completely walking past you and up to the others.
"Greetings," Ilana smiled, shaking hands with the woman.
"This is Lance."
"Boyfriend?" "Brother." "Boo."
"And this is...uh-." "Their father," Octus nodded.
"I'll just call you Daddy," Barb smiled, gripping onto his arm.
"Stop being weird, Barb," you sighed, rolling your eyes as you leaned against the door frame.
As those two walked off, you, Lance, and Ilana convened.
"See? This woman is the perfect example of what I was trying to say before," Ilana smiled. "We need to appear to be normal, like her."
"She's normal?" Lance asked, turning to you.
"Far from it," you assured.
"All this proves is that I need to put a locking system on that door," he scoffed.
"Y'know, there's a great furniture place at the mall," Barb chimed, turning to the three of you.
"What's a ma-ahll?" Ilana asked.
"The shopping mall on Briar. Don't tell me you've never been to a mall," Barb gasped.
"European~" You chimed.
"Well a mall is where we ladies go to just be. There are all sorts of shops and kiosks. If you hurry you can catch the next bus," Barb smiled.
"That's actually a really good idea," you perked up. "We can get you some more clothes, too."
"There is no need for her to leave the house. We have everything we need right here," Lance dismissed.
You rolled your eyes, "Will you relax? I'll be with her."
"What qualifications do you have to go with her?" He cocked a brow, crossing his arms.
"I graduated top of my class from Brunsson Military Academy for Girls, am a black belt in taekwondo, carry a taser and pepper spray around constantly, and know the layout of this entire city like the back of my hand," you listed with your fingers, "Ilana will be fine."
You and Lance stood off for a moment, locked in a glaring contest.
And it would've continued had Ilana not interrupted.
"Where's the bus stop?" she asked.
"Outside on the corner," you and Barb answered in unison.
"Perfect," she smiled, grabbing your arm and dragging you out the house.
"Lance is gonna kill you," you laughed as the two of you ran for the stop.
"He'll get over it," she assured.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
"I can't believe you're actually a princess. Should I be callin' you your majesty or somethin'?" You asked with a smile.
"Out of respect, of course."
Ilana laughed, "No, no, Ilana will be just fine. I wish to see what life is like as a normal Earth citizen. So that means no fancy titles."
"Got it," you nodded.
Suddenly, you got an idea.
"So...you and Lance...I take it you guys aren't actually brother and sister."
She shook her head, "Thankfully, no. My father entrusted him to protect me when we escaped Galaluna."
"Thankfully? I thought you to were..." you crossed your fingers together, and she laughed.
"Oh, Gods, no. I don't think I'd be able to stand him," she assured.
"Really?! *ahem* Uh...I mean...really?" You quickly dialed it back.
She smiled, "You have no competition, (y/n/n). He's all yours."
"Pfft! What gave you that impression?" You scoffed, trying to play it off, the blush on your cheeks not helping your case.
"(y/n/n), I may not be from here, but I'm not blind," she smirked.
"Whatever," you grumbled like a child.
Suddenly, Lance dropped in through the window out of nowhere and plopped himself in the seat next to you.
You smirked as Ilana shot him a deadly glare.
"So....the mall's over there?" He asked, trying to switch the conversation
"You guys are crazy," you chuckled.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
"My friends, I present to thee: the Mall," you smiled, your hands motioning to the shopping center before you.
"Wow!" Ilana marveled, clapping at your introduction.
But Lance ignored it, looking around at the many army service men that were posted nearby.
"It's not safe here," he stated, turning to you.
"Relax. No one knows it's you guys. So long as you keep a low profile, you'll be fine," you shrugged off, linking arms with Ilana and walking into the mall.
Her eyes lit up at every turn, the fluorescent lights and kiosks seeming to hold her attention.
"Barb was right. This place is amazing," she squealed.
"There's the furniture store," you stated, pointing upstairs.
As the three of you walked through the maze of kiosks, you noticed that Lance was getting a little overwhelmed.
"You alright?" you asked, stopping to turn to him.
He glared at you, crossing his arms and turning away, "I'm fine."
Smirking, you poked out your elbow for him to take, giving him a nudge.
"C'mon. You know you wanna," you wiggled your eyebrows.
"No," he stated curtly.
"Whatever you say," you shrugged, walking back over to catch up with Ilana.
"Hey, lady, you like lotion? Very best quality. What kind do you wear?" A lotion salesmen asked her, squirting out a sample.
"Very good scent-." Lance came running out of nowhere, karate chopping the poor man into the booth and smashing the bottle.
"Lance!" You exclaimed, helping the man up.
"Lance, what are you doing?!" Ilana asked.
"That guy was trying to hurt you with his death spray," he glared.
"He was a merchant," she corrected.
"But he had a weapon."
"It's a bottle of scented cream. He was just doing his job," you walked back over, some other mall goers helping the man now.
"So am I," Lance stated.
"Attacking merchants isn't protecting me. Lance, just take it easy," Ilana sighed.
"C'mon, guys, the furniture store's right there. Let's just go before we get in any more trouble," you hurried the two away, seeing the mall cops coming from the corner of your eye.

After looking around for a bit, Ilana settled on this one living room set up she found in a far corner of the store.
What she also found was a snow globe. One that, judging by the expression on her face, seemed to resemble her homeland.
"I miss home," she said sadly, hanging her head.
You sat down next to her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder, "I'm sorry."
"I think we should go," Lance stated, awkwardly, from his spot in the corner.
"Go? Go?! We can't go! We're stuck here! Don't you miss home? Jeez, you are so weird," Ilana burst, storming away.
Lance looked down sadly, "I don't have a lot to miss."
You sighed, standing up from the bed and walking up to him.
"Look, I know you don't like me. And that's fine. But I like you guys. And I know that you two are not gonna last another second here if you don't get on the same page," you stated, looking up at him with your arms crossed.
He let out a heavy sigh and you placed an assuring hand on his shoulder, a warm smile on your face.
"Trust me. Give Earth a chance and this place'll become ten times more pleasurable."
He looked down at you, the smallest smile known to man gracing his lips.
'I'll take it!'
"Alright, now let's get the princess and get you guys home," you cheesed, giving him a pat on the back and walking out, him close behind.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
As the three of you walked out, Ilana was suddenly grabbed by some mall cops.
"That is them!" The lotion man exclaimed, pointing at you.
"Hands off, man," you interrupted, shoulder-checking the cop away from her.
"Get on the ground, now!" Another cop shouted, grabbing his baton.
The three of you went back to back, getting ready for a fight, when Lance grabbed his watch.
"Lance, no! Not here!" Ilana shook her head.
"What not here?! What's happening?!" You frantically asked, keeping your eyes on the officers closing in.
Suddenly, Lance turned into his mech form, right in the middle of the mall.
"Lance! The cameras!" You hurriedly warned, turning to see that blinking red light on.
Thinking on your feet, you jumped on top of an officer and grabbed his baton and walkie-talkie, batting into the camera lens like a baseball bat, smashing it.
"We need to go!" Ilana exclaimed, now in her mech form as well.
"(y/n)! Get on!" Lance exclaimed, turning to me.
"On it!" You nodded, jumping off the cop and swinging onto the light fixture like uneven bars, landing on Lance's metal shoulder.
'Thank you, gymnastics.'
"C'mon!" He hurried, grabbing Ilana's hand and running towards the exit, jumping.
"Whoa! Easy on the jumping! I'm tryna hold on here!" You strained, gripping onto a raised part of his suit as hard as you could.
Once they made it outside, they stopped for a moment.
"We need to deactivate our suits and blend in with the crowd. They won't be able to find us then," Ilana stated.
"I don't think we're gonna be able to do that," Lance stated, staring at the giant, Hydra robot that stand before you.
"Follow me," Lance ordered, flying off.
You gripped tightly as the two whizzed through the city, the path he was taking starting to seem familiar.
"Wait! You're not taking us-." But it was too late.
You all were home, Octus standing in the middle of the street.
"What're you doing with your armor on?" He asked.
"That creature is tracking the signal and you're leading it to the house."
"See what you've done, Lance," Ilana scolded.
"This wouldn't have happened if you and (y/n) decided to take a trip to the mall," Lance fired back.
"No. This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't activated your armor in the mall," she corrected.
"I was just doing my duty. I was protecting you. And I'm not taking any chances," Lance dismissed.
"What's done it done," you sighed, stepping in between the two.
"What we need to focus on is making sure these people are safe."
"Oh, my," Barb gasped, stepping out her house and joining the crowd of people that was now forming.
"Engage-." "Titan!" Ilana finished.
"Titan?" Lance asked.
"That's what the news calls you guys. I think it's cool," you clarified.
"I like it," Octus concurred.
"Engage Sym-Bionic Titan!"
'Watching them morph always amazes me.'
"Yo, Octus! You got a weapon for me?!" You called.
"What weapon are you proficient with?" He asked.
"Oooooo, gimme a bazooka!" You smiled like a kid in a candy store.
Suddenly, a human-sized, high tech looking bazooka dispensed from the titan's calf, landing in your arms.
"SICK!" You smiled, starry eyed.
Running to the foot of the hydra as the titan fought, you accidentally pressed a button on the bazooka and found out that it dispenses grenades.
"Now this is what I'm talkin' about," you smirked, dispensing a bunch and biting off their hooks, tossing them at the feet of the monster like confetti, allowing the titan to over-power the monster's footing.
Getting on one knee, you aimed the bazooka directly at the last foot, shooting it and taking it completely off balance.
Titan quickly grabbed it and flew it away from the neighborhood, defeating it in the distance near the woods.
"Awesome!" You cheered, throwing a fist in the air.
But your celebration was interrupted by the familiar rumbling of tanks on their way.
"Whoops. Party's over," you mumbled quickly running into your house to hide your newfound weapon.
𝙨 𝙮 𝙢 𝙗 𝙞 𝙤 𝙣 𝙞 𝙘
In awkward silence, you and the gang chowed down on your Chinese takeout on the empty living room floor.
You had promised the princess that you'd show it to her after your thoughtful conversation on the bus.
"It's not half bad," Lance stated, slurping up some of his chow mein.
"This sure-rimp is delicious!" Ilana smiled.
"I can see why you humans like this so much," Octus agreed.
"Glad you guys like it," you cheesed, taking a bite of your eggroll.
"Well, I think I'll start heading to sleep now. Goodnight everyone," Ilana wished, getting up from her spot and heading upstairs.
"I, too, will power down for the night," Octus stated, robotically walking up the stairs as well.
Leaving you and Lance alone, in a dark, cold living room.
"Thank you," he started, "For helping at the mall. ....And helping defeat the monster."
You grinned and your heart fluttered at the sudden act of kindness.
"No problem. I got your back, man," you assured with a warm smile.
A small smile graced his lips as well, and he looked at you with a face that wasn't contorted in anger for once.
"Well," you sighed, standing up and heading towards the door. "I better head home. It's late."
"Do you....need someone to walk you there?" He asked, almost as if he was asking himself.
You smiled, "I live next door. I think I'll manage."
"Right," he nodded, averting his eyes in embarrassment.
"Though~," you started. "Besides me being your Earth guide, if you ever want to spar some time...."
This time, a normal sized smile perked on him, and he nodded, "Definitely."
"Sweet," you cheesed, stepping out the door. "G'night, Lance."
