Now, lets come to the opening Song Rinbu Revolution. This also has a deeper meaning but it is related to the opposite views of Buddhism. This is not about fleeing from the Revolution but embracing it.

The lyrics of the Song lead back to german philosophy. This time not to Heidegger but to Friedrich Nietzsche.

Nietzsche was a late 19th century philosopher and cultural critic who heavily influenced both left wing and right wing philosophy as well as fields like psychiartry.

He criticized Western culture. He thought at the starting point, Western culture was about embracing life in all its side no matter if beautiful or bad. He called this "Amor fati". No matter if life is good or bad, people should embrace life.

In Rinbu revolution, one of the key lyrics is "even if I dream, even if I cry even if I get hurt" this references this.

And nietzsche said you truely embrace Amor Fati if you are Willing to Accept and embrace the eternal return. If everything in your life, even the most traumatic things repeat in an endless cycle, in an endless Revolution and you say yes to that, then you love life in its fullest.

So, Nietzsche asks you to "take my revolution"😅

Nietzsche criticized Religion but thought most people needed Religion. But now in modernity, it is revealed that most of that was just a bunch of comfortable illusions now cracking down. Just like Akio Dios and the castle turn out to be illusions in the anime. (Nietzsche called this development the death of God and Dios is literally Dead in Utena. In Akemi Homuras despair scene in Madoka Magica , she is also mocked by children who yell at her "Gott ist tot", meaning "God is dead")

According to Nietzsche, this causes a crisis of meaning and the spreading of apathy and nihilism. Rinbu Revolution references Growing apathy and nihilism in the Population and criticizes that as well.

Nietzsche thought the way out is to become an Uebermensch and be able to create your own values and meaning. This would stop the spiritual decline and revolutionise the world.

Occultist Aleister Crowley took this idea and said this would be the ultimate example of free will. Interestingly, Julius Evola, another occultist whom I mentioned before, connected the Uebermensch (which he called absolute individual) to the Chakravartin (the one who controls the cycles of fate and history in buddhism) and to the prince of Rosicrucianism.

Let's continue my analysis of Utena and look closer at the idea of revolution. Revolution is the last duel and the end of a cycle.

In the first cycle, there are 7 duels. 7 is the biblical number of completion which includes everything worldly and god.

As youtuber johnathan pageau explained, you can also divide the number PI in 6 times 0.5 and one irrational infinite part. This means basically 6 finite, worldly parts and one infinite, godly part. The sevenths day of the week in Abrahamic tradition is also God's day. And in the revolution, the opponent is either Akio or a stand in like professor Mikage. Another name of Akio is Dios which means the same as Deus.

Seven is also the seven days of a week, the completion of one cycle.

And due to seven meaning the inclusion of God, 7 is also the lucky number because seven means having god on your side. (This is the reason why in slot machines, you win by getting 3 times the number seven.

The duels (and most of the duelists) are separated by different colour associations. Seven is also the number of the colors of the rainbow. Another reason why seven is one number of completion.

In the so called chaldeic row, seven "astrological planets" are associated with the days of the week. Monday is the moon day, Sunday is self axplanatory, Saturday is saturn day etc.

In Hinduism, there are 7 chakras.

In Kabbala, there are 10 sephiroth which correspond to the 10 digits of the decimal system. Sephiroth means literally digit. In Germany, digit is called Ziffer, which is derived from sephiroth. And the French word chiffre and the English word cipher are also related to Sephiroth. (Kabbalists like freemasonry were among the first people developing ciphers and many famous ciphers came from freemasons.)

But the three sephiroth on the left row and the three sephiroth on the right row are connected via gendered polarity. They represent the pillars of Joaqin and Boaz which need to be united. (Some people also interpret these rows as the ribcage and that the division between those sephiroth as the real truth behind the sentence of "God took Adam's rib to create eve")

Thus, there are basically 7 sephiroth but 3 of them got split in half.

This is the symbolism of the first round.

In the next round, there are only 6 duels. To understand the 6 you need to know one aspect of numerology. As the freemason Manly Palmer Hall explained in his books The Secret Teachings of all ages, numerology in the Western world goes back to Pythagoras and Pythagoras was a greek. Greek philosophers like Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle all believed that virtue is balance between "not enough" and "too much". Because of this, in numerology, every virtuous number is surrounded by 2 other numbers. Either a number meaning vice or an unattainable number.

The number 7 is virtuous. 6 is vice. And 8 is divine perfection unattainable to mankind. 10 is virtuous. 9 and 11 are vice. 12 is virtuous but 11 and 13 are bad numbers.

But what means 6?

6 means everything worldly but lacking God. In this round, akio was absent and professor mikage took over his part.

6 also means a lack of understanding and a lack of belief. And thus, 6 means manipulation and a lot of the Mikage arc was about brainwashing.

The next number of the next round is 4 meaning 4 seasons. Another cyclical number.

And 4 plus 6 equals 10, the number of the 10 commandments and the 10 sephiroth. Then, there are 2 additional final duels. 2 means polarity and 2 plus 10 equals 12.

2 is also the number which is related to information. According to Claude Elwood Shannon, every information is the statement that something is true and the implication that the opposite is false. Without this polarity, there cannot be an information. Thus, the smallest unit of information is Binary, Zero and one.

In the chinese I ging, Yin and Yang are related to the digits zero and one.

This means in every round of the duels, all duels represent the whole World. Its a Revolution of the whole World.

In Tarot, the world (and the Lovestory sephiroth Malkuth) is depicted as a revolving wheel and people need to spiritually Transcend this wheel. The Letters on the wheel can be read as Tarot, as well as Rota (Rotation, spinning, revolving) and Tora (law)

The rosicrucian prince (which is, as explained in earlier texts akio) is also a larger Archetype of a king which is so spiritually powerful that the world Revolves around him and he controls the wheel of destiny. In Buddhism, there is one Inkarnation of this messianic Archetype called the Chakravartin which means "the one who spins the wheel of destiny") But im Buddhism, Mara, the Buddhist equivalent to Satan and the Gnostic demiurge also controls the wheel. Akio in the series is also a depiction of the demiurge. And Mara controls Maya, the world of illusions (Platos cave)

Jesus cobtrolling the wheel of destiny in the Carmina Burana, a collection of Songs written by Christian monks. The most famous Song is Fortuna Imperstrix Mundi depicting the world as a wheel of Fortune. One line of the lyrics is "Semper dissolibilis" meaning that fate dissolves everything and nothing is eternal. As in the previous text explained, one big part of Utenas philosophy is that nothing eternal can exist.

Dios sitting on top of that sphere also fits here. This sphere reminds a bit on the Reichsapfel (imperial apple) a symbol of german kings. The Reichsapfel literally means Christ standing on top of the globe/the world and controlling it.

Let's continue the madoka magica analysis. Last time I talked about Sartre and existentialism. But now let's talk about another French guy.

Albert Camus. He thought existence is not a "choose your own adventure" story like Sartre. He thought existence was more like the punishment of sisyphus in Greek myth. How was he punished? He was forced into an endlessly repeating cycle where he starts a task (rolling a Boulder on top if a hill) almost reaches the top, but suddenly fails and needs to start all over again. Endlessly repeating.

Man must learn to live with that kind of pointless existence and suffering without falling into despair.

Now. Always repeating a task just to fail in the last Minute and being forced ro endlessly repeat it. Doesn't that remind you on someone in Madoka Magica?

Her arc ofcourse also has parallels to Buddhist samsara (which I already discussed in my Utena analysis) and entropy is an information theory term which is related to Buddhist Sunyata and to daoism. (Daoism is basically "be careful what you do because everything causes entropy. Its favorable to do nothing instead of causing too much entropy")

But you see the parallels to Camus are also very obvious.

Interestingly Albert Camus work Was a response to a Christian existentialist philosopher named Sören Kierkegaard.

While Evola despised Sartre, Evola praised Kierkegaard as an alternative. And Kierkegaard is also very relevant to Madoka.

Kierkegaard had an existentialist worldview but he saw a huge threat in existence:

Despair

We cannot always get what we want. We cannot always become what We want. We might hate who We are.

This and similar things causes despair and despair causes corruption and evil. And at the highest point of despair, nobody can save you, not even god. (Kierkegaards conception is Closely related to a biblical term called blasphemy of the holy spirit and is a similar corruption pattern to the Buddhist idea of basically "ignorance leads to fear, fear to greed, greed leads to hate, hate leads to suffering". And yes. Master Yoda in the prequels uses that Buddhist concept.)

According to Kierkegaard, the only way to save yourself from despair is to make a leap of faith and entrust yourself to religion and a godess figure.

That is literally the Ending of the TV series.

Camus thought that would not work and your despair will come back to you someday.

Interestingly, Camus thought instead, this absurd reality will lead certain people to a path of Rebellion (like the title of the movie) with the aim to change and rewrite reality. But this is a pointless, empty Rebellion leading the Rebel to become just another variant of the System they Rebelled against in the first place.

Some ancient texts in sumeria also described Saturn as a dark malicious anti Sun of the night sky which emanates dark energy. A description which eerily fits how Pharaoh 90 looked in the Manga.

Because of this, Saturn also got called the black sun. Some occult researchers like Immanuel Velikovsky and Karl Maria Willigut (Willigut by the way is the person who is responsible for the "political connotations" of the black sun symbol) thought that Saturn was a Former sun which somehow became a planet and this is the explaination for the idea of the black sun.

Saturn is not only seen as an anti sun but also as an anti Jupiter and Jupiter was the king of the gods.

One season before Doctor Tomoe, the so called Black Moon clan appeared who reside on Nemesis. Nemesis is depicted as a celestial body capable of emitting radiation. More like a sun than a moon.

The Name Nemesis also comes from a hypothesis by physicist Richard Muller. He thought that in our solar system, there might be a second sun called Nemesis which, with its radiation, was responsible for many catastrophes in human history.

Thus, Nemesis in sailor moon was in truth an incarnation of the idea of the black sun.

And the embodiment of Nemesis was the so called death phantom. The grim reaper is a symbol which originally meant saturn but which later became a general symbol for death.

So, both Hotaru and Chibiusa are connected to Saturn.

In Utena, the whole Mikage arc is connected to the black rose. In my previous analyses, I pointed out that the rose is a symbol for the masculine solar principle. Maybe thus, the black rose now is a symbol of the Saturnian Black Sun.

Interestingly, in Sailor Moon, the black moon was a place of banishment, of being cast out. (Mirroring Zeus/Jupiter's victory against the titans. ) Mikage is also a person who literally got cast out and banished underground.

Saturn is also connected to the idea of usurpation and Mikage tries to usurp Akios throne.

The idea of alchemical nigredo as a cracking of the world's shell and a Revolution towards higher principles is sometimes also associated with the idea of the black sun and with saturn in connection to a death and rebirth.
