THERE'S A HITCH IN HIS BREATH. the kind that shakes making it obvious there is something bothering the thunderer, but not enough to speak truth. could just be a figment of one's imagination. what he won't say is how incredibly IN LOVE he is with the captain. there is no shame in how he feels, but the god has learned just how hesitant steve can be when it comes to these situations. thor would shout his devotion from the peaks of every mountain.

how could he not when all he sees is just how wonderfully, beautifully woven this man can be. every thread has wrapped around thor in a chokehold that he can never hope to be released from. bright blues glimpse over his shoulder at the other. his hands on hips while every muscle ini his shoulder seem so tense they might burst. how does he put his emotion into words without completely frightening the soldier into running in the other direction because he claims this world is not ready for what they could have.

"There is just a lot of weight placed upon our shoulders. The world, the cosmos , the universe. " he lies, possibly a little too convincingly, but if anyone were to see through the facade. it would be steve. Matters of the heart is what troubles this god. has he never yearned for anything in his life that was just within reach but somehow still so utterly unattainable?

𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆.   that was the best way to think about it.  Was it really coping?   It was like she had forgotten everything she had learned on New Asgard and thrown it away once more, but this was different. She couldn’t talk about it, the moment she did --- it would cause far too much heartache.  She knew Thor, Tony, Clint and everyone else would be on the case in seconds and that’s why she couldn’t say a word.  She didn’t want Wanda hurt even after all she had done. Homework turned over to the same page for hours now.  She just liked sitting here. She had fond memories here. Tony helping her build arrows, Clint attempting to teach her how to do a robin hood and then doing it for the ninth time with a smug smirk on his face, Steve helping her train... 

SHE MISSED HIM.    the feeling never really disappeared.    the guilt:  VISION, STEVE, even TONY, though she was thankful to have been able to fix that one.  She felt tear drop onto ink page. She would have to write this homework up again wouldn’t she?   Oh well.   She didn’t really care much about college in the first place.     She just needed to graduate and then she could do what she was meant to do.   What she was ALWAYS meant to do.     after all she had the approval of Steve Rogers:    a dream as a kid,     but oh what she would do to see him again. Hear his voice ... 

Eyes turned upwards and a gasp escaped her lips.   homework on the ground.  She let the book close and her eyes looked up at the individual.   No way was that Steve.  He was dead.  She had attended his funeral,  He couldn’t be in front of her, he couldn’t be here.   No, maybe this was just her mind playing tricks on her. She couldn’t tell anyone else about Wanda so she was just imagining Steve to get it off her chest.     ❛ I’m either really in need of that therapist or ...      were you on the moon?  cause if you were on the moon... and the rumors about the moon are true...  you’re in big trouble for not telling me you were on the moon because that’s really cool...  and I want pictures and an apology. ❜

It wasn’t often the team found themselves together without the threat of global annihilation looming overhead. But tonight -- miraculously -- they were. Perched atop Stark Tower, the city glittering beneath them like a light show in their honour, the Avengers were finally just… people. Naturally, Tony had taken it upon himself to cater the evening. In true Stark fashion, this meant margaritas blended not with ice, but with arc reactor precision. He handed them out like party favours, grinning like a man who had never followed a recipe. It was only natural, he supposed, that Steve regarded the neon concoction with suspicion and Tony gasped, clutching his chest with mock betrayal. “So you’re telling me you don’t want to try the arc reactor-powered margarita blender I built specifically for this rooftop bash? Who even are you?”

Someone chimed in from the group - something about Steve just wanting to keep his wits about him in case danger struck, protecting the people and all of that jargon. Tony rolled his eyes, already half a sip into his drink. “From what? Fun?” He scoffed and set his glass down with flair.

“I’m hurt, Rogers. Truly. All this genius, all this hard work… and you show up as the party grandma?”

And right on cue, as if fate herself had a sense of humour, one of the guests stumbled. There was a gasp, a flail, and then—splash—an entire margarita cascaded down the front of Steve’s pristine shirt. Tony didn’t even try to hide it. He doubled over laughing. Steve, soaked and vaguely sticky, looked like he’d just been personally offended by the 21st century. This made Tony laugh harder when Steve told him to stop laughing. “Are you kidding me? Rogers, that was the highlight of the night. If you’d just accepted the drink in the first place, the universe wouldn’t have punished your cocktail snobbery.” He paused, raising his glass in salute. “To karma. And tequila.”

                 “ that is a rather pessimistic way of viewing things. no? ” a fry is plucked off the basket between them. she could, uncharacteristically, go on about how she herself has changed, how she has becomes someone better and yet still similar in certain ways to the idealistic women who would have done anything for her country. she could also accept, as she has done and will continue to do, the assumptions that people have about her by way of agreeing to his statement. but as far as she is concerned, his words alone are evident that he has in some ways changed too. natasha says nothing, simply glances out the rain streaked window of the diner in brooklyn he insisted had the best food in the city. ( which they both know is code for food reminiscent of the good ol' days. a sentiment she understands and relates to more than most would think--- after so many decades she is still a russian woman at heart. )

                 “ are you really going to tell me you're the same man i met on the helicarrier all those years ago? ” gaze cuts back to him, a brow arching. after everything that has happened since she would be surprised if the man who has had to carry weight of a monument had not become jaded in some way.

𝐡𝐢𝐬   𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬   𝐚𝐫𝐞   𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭   ,𝐟𝐨𝐫   𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞,   𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠   𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐠𝐨𝐝   𝐨𝐟   𝐭𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫   to   sleep   peacefully   with   nothing   to   fear   or   interrupt   .   finally   ,   his   heart   can   rest   easy   beside   the   man   he   loves   and   get   the   rest   he   has   so   sorely   needed   for   quite   a   long   time   .      truthfully   ,   this   kind   of   rest   can   only   be   found   by   steve’s   side   .   the   only   interruption   of   such   peaceful   slumber   that   is   acceptable   comes   in   the   form   of   his   lover   beginning   a   slow   assault   of   kisses   starting   from   his   chest   .   

it   isn’t   unusual   for   steve   to   be   awake   before   him   but   ,   by   now,   @symbolstill​  has   found   his   own   brand   of   solace   in   a   morning   run   .      this   is   much   more   preferable   and   the   god   smiles   before   he   ever   opens   his   eyes   allowing   his   fingers   to   find   tufts   of   hair   at   the   back   of   steve’s   neck   .   there   is   a   trail   of   soft   kisses   that   leads   up   to   the   god’s   lips   where   his   entire   sense   of   self   is   lost   in   a   very   slow   but   somehow   steamy   kiss   .   ❝      good   morning   to   you   too   ,   ❞   thor   says   when   they   break   the   kiss   ,   but   only   since   its   been   long   enough   they   both   needed   air   .   never   a   better   way   to   be   awakened   first   thing   in   the   morning   .

one  of  the  MANY  things  that  made  her  happy  to  be  back  home  was  definitely  the  fact  that  the  horses  still  recognized  her.    she  adored  every  single  animal  in  asgard,  but  her  connection  with  the  horses  was  like  no  other  when  it  came  to  that.    she  often  is  found  right  here,  feeding  them,  watching  as  they  are  trained,  or  simply  comes  when  she  needs  to  vent  with  one  of  the  creatures    — -    nothing  like  talking  to  'someone'  who  can't  talk  back  to  you.    now,  the  once  queen  rubs  the  space  between  the  eyes  of  one,  while  her  other  hand  moves  carefully  next  to  her  and  suddenly  there's  a  carrot  in  her  hand.    as  she  holds  it  out  for  the  animal,  her  head  tilts  a  little,  never  looking  behind  at  whoever  had  been  watching  the  interaction,  but  she  had  been  aware  of  their  presence  the  moment  they  stopped  to  watch.    ❝  don’t  just  stand  there,  looking  at  me!  ❞    voice  is  loud  enough  for  him  to  hear  and  she  finally  turns,  a  bright  smile  on  her  face.    ❝  i  am  only  one  and  they  need  feeding.  ❞    hand  once  again  moves  quickly  and  there's  another  carrot  being  held  out,  but  now  it  awaits  for  steve  to  come  closer  and  take  it  from  her.    he  looks  like  he  needs  a  distraction,  just  like  she  did  when  she  came  here  earlier  that  day.

today   has   been   a   particularly   bad   day   and   steve   has   been   able   to   pick   up   on   it   .   his   other   half   has   been   a   little   more   affectionate   as   well   as   trying   to   check   in   a   little   more   often   when   thor   secludes   himself   outside   to   simply   watch   the   ocean   in   the   distance   .      the   nightmares   have   plagued   him   since   before   steve’s   return   from   the   dead   but   he   is   alive   .      this   he   knows   ,   but   his   brain   hasn’t   yet   let   him   forget   of   the   grief   he   suffered   for   a   year   without   the   man   by   his   side   .      

the   nightmares   don’t   stop   .      the   feeling   of   loss   seems   so   silly   now   because   he   doesn’t   have   to   mourn   anymore   ,   but   now   he   is   frightened   of   what   will   happen   when   a   day   comes   that   steve   dies   and   doesn’t   come   back   .   there’s   no   reason   to   continue   on   this   path   of   trying   to   live   without   him   but   it’s   hard   to   shake   that   feeling   loose   when   it   was   all   he   knew   for   a   year   .      

a   year   in   his   long   life   is   NOTHING   ,   but   this   past   year   has   felt   like   forever   ,   as   if   time   stopped   completely   and   he   would   never   wish   that   feeling   of   devastation   on   anyone   .   thor   tries   to   remind   himself   that   none   of   that   matters   anymore   .   he’ll   smile   weakly   at   steve’s   quips   ,   especially   when   he   mentions   cooking   for   them   both   .      they   both   know   that   will   not   end   well   and   when   his   love   ventures   back   into   the   house   to   start   ,   thor   knows   he   needs   to   join   him   just   to   keep   an   eye   on   the   progress   .      

still   ,   it   takes   him   at   least   ten   minutes   to   get   up   and   when   he   does   finally   make   his   way   into   the   kitchen   through   the   french   doors   there’s   already   the   smell   of   burnt   SOMETHING   .   thor   exhales   lightly   and   gives   a   laugh   as   he   gives   steve   that   LOOK      to   which   @symbolstill​  replies      don’t   look   at   me   like   that   .   with   a   point   of   his   mixing   spoon   .   

the   god   throws   his   hands   up   in   surrender   without   saying   a   word   but   grabs   the   apron   from   its   hook   close   to   the   door   .      ❝      stand   back   and   watch   a   professional   .   ❞   and   just   like   that   his   mood   returns   to   that   of   what   they   both   know   and   love   .   a   generous   distraction   from   the   demons   in   his   mind   that   won’t   let   him   just   live   his   life   happily   with   his   love   .         ❝      you   warned   me   .   i   know   .   .   .   i   know   .   .   .   ❞
