"You use a crossbow." Leah crossed her arms in front of her chest, looking the other woman up and down. "And really, witch hunter? You've come to the wrong place."
"And why do you say that?" she was bent over the bow, checking gears and switches, trying not to look like she was staring in awe at the bright blue hair and wings, or the gleaming gun her brother was probably drooling over, it certainly was big enough, a tri-barreled rifle slung across the girl's back.
"I've heard about your witches. They aren't what we have here. I mean, fucking hell, just look at me. Lightning in my hair, in my eyes, in my veins, and fairy wings." Leah fluttered them slightly for emphasis, watching the reaction as this Gretel took in the fact half of them ended in nothing more than shreds. "And I wish I could say that I'll be right on sending you back where you belong. But that's not an option here, you're stuck. So let me give you this bit of advice. Call yourselves mercenaries, or join a pirate ship, by all the zanith above. But don't go around calling yourselves witch hunters, you'll find every wizard, magus, witch, bard, and sorcerer wanting your hides." She paused for a moment, looking over the crossbow resting on the table before Gretel. "By the way, mind showing me how that works? I mean, fuck, I want to see that in action."
Gretel grinned up at her. "Want to try a shot?" She lifted it as she stood, turning to flick the switch, her grin spreading across her face at the gasp of awe from behind her.
"I'd shoot both my feet at once." Leah said it as though it were simply a fact of life, even as she moved closer, fingers ghosting bare millimeters from the surface of it, as if she could feel everything without actually making contact.
"Why do you say that?" Gretel was watching her fingers, nodding approvingly when Leah's fingers paused over a mostly hidden compartment.
Leah glanced back up, meeting Gretel's grinning to match Gretel's as she took a step away from the weapon. "Family curse. Or just dumb luck for both father and daughter."
Gretel laughed. "But no such bad luck with guns?"
Leah nodded. "Not for me, but my dad's much more traditional. He still wishes I had taken up a real bow."
Gretel released the catch to collapse the weapon into a single crossbow once more before she set it down. "So you know your way around bows and guns, but not the mix between the two?"
Leah gave a small nod. "When you almost shoot off your own foot, it kind of puts you off."
She felt Gretel's eyes on her again, moving from wings to neck and following the line down her body to the foot she favored. "You've got a lot of scars, then?"
Leah nodded, "My fair share, yeah."
Gretel looked thoughtful, licking her lips before speaking again. "Could I see them all sometime? And you could show me how your rifle works."
Leah felt the air in her lungs pause, as if the world stopped while a flush raised on her cheeks. "Yeah. Yeah, I think I'd like that."
That got a chuckle from the other woman, and a brief ghosting of lips over her red cheek. "I look forward to it."
Leah just stared as she left, crossbow hefted to one shoulder while leather clad legs strolled confidently into- Leah's cabin. her face flushed even darker at the implications, the idea of staying with that woman, and letting her see-! "Evan's going to KILL me when he finds out it's not the brother that's found their way into my cabin." She whispered, feet seemingly stuck on the deck of her ship.
She jumped when she felt a hand on her shoulder. "What if it wasn't just the brother that found their way into your cabin."
If at all possible, Leah's face grew even darker, mouth agape as Hansel walked past her with a wink to where his sister was in the doorway to her cabin, beckoning clearly for them both. "I'm dead. I'm so dead." Without even a glance around to see if any of the crew was watching this take place, she ran across the deck to her cabin, closing the door and whispering a quick spell to give them some privacy.
