Princess Harmonia the Dark is heir to the throne of Symphonyxia, a kingdom which is known for its music-based magic. Harmonia is the daughter of Queen Soloria the Unwavering and King Altone the Compassionate.Despite her mother’s strict method of upbringing, Harmonia is always curious and up for adventure. She earned her title by being the first Symphonyxian to master using dark magic without being corrupted or consumed by it. Several years ago, Harmonia snuck out of her castle to explore the kingdom, where she met a musical sorcerer Octavo. The two would write music and perform together, without the queen knowing. As a symbol of their friendship, Harmonia gave Octavo a golden conductor’s baton that was enchanted with some of her powers. However, Soloria found out about their friendship and forbid Octavo and Harmonia from seeing each other, due to Octavo’s status as a commoner, unless Octavo could perform a heroic act that would prove to Soloria that he was worthy of associating with her daughter. Octavo agreed and left the kingdom in search of a heroic act.

Soloria is the serious and strict mother of Harmonia and queen of the kingdom of Symphonyxia. She sticks by the rules she creates and makes no exceptions for anyone, not even her family. She is also partially the reason her daughter ran away from home...

Altone is the king of Symphonyxia and Harmonia’s father. A kind and compassionate soul, Altone believes everyone has a bit of good in their soul and all are equal. He cares deeply for his daughter and often helps her escape from under her mother’s nose when going out into the kingdom to explore and perform.

Since you're the only person who can wield dark magic without getting corrupted by it, how do you resist it? Is there some sort of secret that other dark magic wielders haven't learned yet, or does it just come naturally?

“It’s a little hard to explain. It took me a long time to fully learn about my kingdom’s dark magic myself, but I’ll try my best!”

“Ok, so the usual magic we use in Symphonyxia, light magic, is cast through music and song, right? Well it’s more than just that.”

“You also need to be in the necessary state of mind for that specific spell. Most light magic requires you to be in a positive mental state, so you have to think about positive things and recall positive thoughts!”

“Dark magic, on the other hand, doesn’t technically require music or song as a casting method and only a select few are gifted the ability to use it in the first place. It requires being in a negative mental state, which makes it much more dangerous and has more serious consequences. You need to think of negative thoughts and recall negative memories. Sometimes dark spells require you to think of really bad things you would never even dream about doing or even thinking.”

“In order to cast dark magic without getting corrupted, you need to be able to do all of that without letting the thoughts affect you. You can’t give into the negativity or you’ll get corrupted. And trust me, you don’t want to know the effects of corruption. I had to study it thoroughly and I had nightmares for months on end. You need a will of steel to cast dark magic without being corrupted. The magic itself is also incredibly exhausting to cast as it takes a lot of energy from the caster. That’s why I only use it as a last resort.”

“So nobody go looking up dark magic spells without correctly preparing for it, ok? My mom was the one who trained me not to be affected by the needed negativity and even then I had trouble keeping a firm grip on it. She’s not called Soloria the Unwavering for nothing, you know! I’m pretty sure she would’ve been a waaaay better dark magic user than I if she was gifted it.”
