Synara San (Star Wars Resistance)
Synara San
Hey, remember Star Wars Resistance? Design-wise, Synara still has one of my favorite Star Wars looks. Very cool.
I wouldn’t be so into Neekaz if weren’t for the fact that Neeku and Kaz reroute their attention from female love interests to each other
In “Bibo,” Kaz starts the episode by offering lunch to his crush Synara but then ends up (accidentally) buying lunch to Neeku.
So his romantic gesture gets rerouted to Neeku.
In “The Engineer,” Neeku and Nena are happily hitting it off and they seem to sync well as mechanics. Neeku tries to tell Kaz to not ever be jealous of Nena, like a buddy telling his friend “Look, I found this nice girl, that doesn’t mean I’ll spend less time with you.”
But by the end of “The Engineer” when Nena turns out to be a saboteur, Kaz and Neeku really start to work together.
And note how Nena points out that Kaz can be egotistical--“sounds like [Kaz] just likes to talk--and eventually trying to plead to Neeku to come with her. And note how at the very end of “The Engineer,” Kaz subverts his egotism and asks Neeku about himself.
Look, these needs that a female love interest has offered or gestures they try to give to a female love interest just ends up in Kaz and Neeku investing in each other.
I know the trope of the “male buddies finding platonic investment in each other when female love interests just don’t take interest in them” is common, but Kaz and Neeku just stands out because of the intimacy.
For the kiyoshi makeup thing, I'm half SE Asian and I was wondering, how does that work out? Is how much I look Asian more important than how asian I am percentage wise? And in general, being half, how much does my opinion on topics like these matter? Does this also depend on how much I physically look asian? (I can totally understand if you don't know the answers, I just saw you answering a similar question and since this has been on my mind for a while I though to ask)
hhhhhhhhhh this is a complicated question (and also for the record i am also half se asian & half white)
so first of all, the whole idea of “what percentage xyz race are you” has roots in anti-Blackness & white supremacy (see the “one drop rule”) https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2010/12/one-drop-rule-persists/
that being said, for white-mixed people, there are very real privileges associated with being white-passing/light-skinned/etc.
there are so many complicated factors that go into race (since race is a social construct): what you physically look like, your family history, how you personally identify, cultural experiences, how you are generally perceived by others, etc.
so i really can’t give you a Firm Answer on what is right/whether you’d be able to cosplay as a kyoshi warrior, since i don’t know your personal situation and i don’t think i can speak for all south east asians or even for all half-south east asians.
so my personal advice would be: if you feel you have the facial features that the kyoshi makeup emphasizes (monolid eyes, button nose, etc.), you can wear the makeup. if not, i would not.
here’s a quote from viet thanh nguyen abt vietnamese identity: "there are many ways of being Vietnamese...as long as I felt I was Vietnamese, as long as I was moved by Vietnamese things, I was still Vietnamese. So that's how I claim my Vietnamese self." (source)
if you end up putting on the makeup and you feel moved and empowered and connected to your asian identity, wonderful! if you end up putting on the makeup and you feel hollow or disconnected or it feels like a costume, take it off. <3
When you go to the kitchen for a late night snack, but one of your other family members went out for a late night snack too:
Ok so the same episode that brings back Elijah Wood’s character is the same episode that Synara gives this gem of a line
When you see a nice friend group that loves and supports each other-
Star Wars Resistance S1E8 “Synara’s Score” instant reaction
Welcome back everyone!
With a title like “Synara’s Score,” looks like we’re visiting the pirate lady from last week. Let’s get started!
Captain Doza is talking with Yeager. I don’t trust Doza as far as I can throw him
Doza’s sending the Aces out on a secret mission so Doza needs Team Fireball to fix all the cannons on the Quik Trip. TEAM FIREBALL IS GETTING NOTICED!
Don’t they have other mechanics too? Team Fireball aren’t the only mechanics here. Why not get all the groups to work together? Is it because they’re our main characters so logic is out the window? I mean at least get one of the other mechanic groups to help if it’s that important
They need to find a part that’s rare on the QuikTrip but they can’t talk about why
ORKA AND FLIX! MY FAVORITE COUPLE! I SHIP THEM SO FREAKING HARD
God, I love Orka and Flix
