fitz and keefe dancing together in everglen’s ballroom as practice for their inevitable winnowing galas and fitz pauses after he spins her around at one point and goes, “gimme a second”, and then pulls out a clumsily handmade #1 ribbon and pins it to her top. tries to get her to keep dancing after he explains that the system will never match them as it is but she’s his #1 on the lists in his head of people he’d want to romantically spend his life with. but she’s too busy melting into a teary puddle.

so they just sway back and forth for a bit. and maybe try and tell each other improv poetry back and forth and keefe wins like really fast. and fitz says something super dumb like “well i could hum more love songs than you so check mate” like he’s winning when he’s just losing harder (he doesn’t mind)

something something it started with them hanging out at Everglen together, and they passed by the reception hall, and Keefe got this look on her face and Fitz immediately knew she was thinking of everything they could never have. and Fitz went I Need To Fix This Now, and impulsively grabbed her hand and asked to dance

and they start joking about what it would be, were they allowed. about how they think they'd decorate, and how Keefe would sneak elixirs into the drinks, and what ridiculous clothes they'd wear, and how they'd ignore everyone else at the gala and sneak away together. to some private spot on the grounds no one would find them

and it starts out joking, and they get quieter and quieter as they go on, and it becomes less and less of a joke. until they barely even dancing anymore, just standing there, close, holding each other, thinking about this bittersweet future they want but can't have. not like everyone else

until keefe says all that pomp is stupid anyways, shoving fitz and saying she bets he can't beat her to the kitchen for the last slice of mallowmelt, which, unbeknownst to fitz, has been tampered with to turn his hair pink <3

(coming from a sokeefitz lens because of course i am) consider keefe just NOT knowing how to use pet names. sophie doesn’t use them out of personal preference (feels weird/too cheesy), fitz is full of pet names he wants to call loved ones but doesn’t have permission yet, but keefe just genuinely does Not Know How Pet Names Work.

nicknames? easy. lord of the snuggles, fitzy, foster, the mysterious miss f, lady fosboss, the list goes on. but pet names? he never heard those growing up, except for when alden and della were lovey dovey in front of their kids just to make them groan.

you ask him what pet names he uses and he either says “dear…?” because that’s what alden and della used most often or he goes “uhhhh iggy i guess” because that is quite literally the name of a pet he spends the most time with. maybe he tries using pet names a few times after it’s explained to him but it comes out so awkward that he just switches back to stupid nicknames that sometimes border on pet names (god forbid he find out sophie was called soybean as a kid)

honestly? i think he knows about the soybean thing. anyway, i agree. i think keefe would be bad with pet names. but also i don't think it would bother him too much. he has his abundance of nicknames to turn to instead. so i can't see him being too torn up about it.

as for actual pet names. he doesn't spend that much time with iggy compared to silveny. so i think he'd be more likely to say "uhhhh silveny i guess" than iggy (excluding the fact that. he does not call her that. but that's a nickname, so).

i honestly think keefe would also be completely against being called pet names too. he establishes that he doesn't want to be called any pet names at all. sophie and fitz continue to call him pet names behind his back while talking to each other, though

That fitz fic you reblogged is my current wip of a rewrite of the first chapters of kotlc from fitz's point of view! i started it over a year ago but took a pause because i didn't have his mindset right, but I finally got back to it and think I've got it this time! planning to post it July 22nd for Fitz day in roisin's reading rumble <33, and it's been so fun to write. he's soo <333 i have so many funny lines

i've also still got that sokeefitz wip for you!! i haven't finished it yet (on account of bad year), but I really really want to. for you <3. it's gonna be SO good

AND!! in fic and art news, the annual kotlc summer exchange is about to start!! which I am very excited about because it was SO much fun last year (I wrote 2 20k fics in under a month).

also been reading SO many things that have made me feral this year. I didn't read as much as usual last year but i am BACK with a VENGEANCE. i'm going to EAT CONCRETE
