I felt bad not writing anything for aro week! So I combined aromanticism with the @kotlc-sapphicweek prompt "pride" and wrote some QPR Marelliana :)

My specific headcanons aren't super important to the fic, but in my brain Marella is an aromantic allosexual lesbian, and Biana is sapphic-oriented aromantic and aceflux.

Marella isn’t interested in this whole dating thing. She has her (albeit a little dysfunctional) family, and her friends, and that’s enough. She doesn’t want or need a girlfriend.

And then there’s Biana. And Marella still isn’t interested in dating her, but there’s something about her best friend that’s different from her friendships with Stina and Maruca, with Tam and Linh. It isn’t just that they kiss sometimes (although they do kiss, and more when Biana wants to). There’s something else Marella feels for her, and it’s not romance, but it’s something. 

Biana isn’t her girlfriend, and she is her best friend, but she’s something else too. Something Marella doesn’t have the words for. She’s not sure if the words for it even exist, but that’s okay. There doesn’t need to be a word for what she feels for Biana; she knows she cares for her, deeply, and that’s what matters.

Biana grew up thinking she would have a fairy tale kind of love. A princess and a prince (or, perhaps, a princess and another princess). But Biana’s not a princess, and neither is Marella, and they don’t love each other the way Biana expected to fall in love.

Fitz gives Biana a knowing smile one day, after Marella leaves Everglen, and Biana huffs. “It’s not like that,” she insists.

“Right. You definitely don’t have a crush on her or anything.”

“I don’t!” Fitz raises his eyebrows, and Biana adds, “Really. I have… feelings for her, but they’re not crush feelings. We’re not like you and Keefe– we’re not dating, we’re not in love like you guys. We’re… different.” 

Fitz nods, and Biana knows he doesn’t get it. He and Keefe are so ridiculously in love, the romantic kind of love, that she doubts he could understand her not quite platonic but still not romantic feelings for Marella. But he doesn’t have to understand her to support her, and she loves that about him.

Biana and Marella don’t say I love you. But after a hard day, Biana will braid Marella’s hair, and Marella will bring her a cup of her favorite tea. Biana will say do you want to talk about it? and I’m sorry, I’m here for you when Marella’s mom is struggling. Marella will kiss Biana’s scars and say you’re still beautiful, Bee, you’re the most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen. They don’t say I love you, because they’re not in love in the traditional way. It might not even be love at all. And that’s okay, because they don’t want that kind of love; they want each other.
