'Never Let Me Down Again' was released in August 1987 as a single from their album 'Music for the Masses'. In the UK, the single was only moderately successful, peaking at number 22.

Recorded with David Bascombe during the recording sessions for 'Music for the Masses' from February 1987, the song was released as a second pre-single in August 1987, just before the album was released in September. Fragments of a map of the Soviet Union can be seen on the single cover, different fragments were shown on different editions. The track 'Pleasure, Little Treasure' was used as the B-side.

Today, the song is considered one of the band's classics.

Construction Time Again is the third studio album by Depeche Mode, released on 22 August 1983. There was a radio program in the GDR (The Land Before Time) in which more or less up-to-date records played completely and thus enabled the recording. Construction Time Again was such an album for me ;-)

The melody came to my head after meeting someone who reminded me that the world is unfair and a race. A race I can’t always win. It’s a complex back and forth of feelings. Like ebb and flow. I imagined that under the influence of planets and moons: Nothing stands still everything is constantly moving and part of that race. I created a vision for myself or us which didn’t work out in reality. I failed and it sucks. Born under the influence of Saturn I created an avatar and wrote this song. A new side, the alien in me that can handle all the tough situations and life lessons I still have to learn.
