They’d found her again, that was good. One morning, the house woke up to the sound of Leo sobbing and Max trying to console him. When Mattie’s mother asked, they were informed that Mia had vanished again. Just gone, no explanation. From what Mattie knew about Mia, it would have been very unlike her to just leave.
Mattie volunteered to go with Leo and Max to assist in finding Mia. It wouldn’t be safe to let Leo go alone, and Max was still recovering from his injuries so may not be able to hold Leo back from doing something stupid. That was her reasoning, but really, Mattie just wanted to help. She hated feeling useless, and being sat at home, waiting would have made her feel like that. This was better.
When they’d found her, she was in an empty playing field near Mattie’s neighbourhood. Mia had been lying down in the grass, shut down. It was odd, but they made the conclusion it was due to low power. Max carried her home and the colour had returned to Leo’s face, which was good.
Mattie’s parents were at work, Sophie was having a play date, Toby was at a ‘”friend’s” house and Leo was napping in Mattie’s bed upstairs with Max charging beside him. That left Mattie in the living room with Mia whilst she charged. It didn’t feel right to leave her unattended after this morning, so Mattie volunteered to keep an eye on her.
Mia opened her eyes, looking as if she felt another presence in the room. Mattie smiled at her when their eyes met, but instantly noticed something was wrong. Before she could even react, Mia pounced on her, pinning her to the ground, Mattie didn’t have a chance to escape.
