   She had heard talk about the infamous Nick Valentine from people in passing -- but the words that they spoke didn’t seem to capture the man as a whole. His face, while off-setting at first, was strangely interesting.

Ellie wanted to ask him what happened -- but she decided against that, realizing that that was terrible manners upon first meeting someone. Yet, all she could think about is how much he looked like a character from one of the comics she read.  What was his story? 

He fit the aesthetic of a detective. He even had the voice...

It was getting hard to bottle up all this excitement. She needed to know everything.

“ -- holy shit, you’re Nick Valentine! The detective! ”

“Hey man, you alright? You don’t look so good.”

With Hancock gone off to who-knows-where with some vault dweller, raiders, supermutants, and other hostile elements had taken this as an idea that Goodneighbor was ripe for the taking, but they were wrong.

The supermutants that managed to break through the gate of Goodneighbor had really done a number on the town before they were taken down. While most people had hid or run for cover to shoot from a distance, there were few lone men that had either had the guts or lacked the sense to join the fray of battle, guns blazing. Those men had been two of the Neighborhood watch, KLE0, and this guy, a man in a trenchcoat and fedora.

Both of the watchmen that jumped into the front lines had been slaughtered, one with his head crushed in and the other with his arms torn off, this one guy seemed to be the only one alive. KLE0 was also damaged, but not in immedient danger like a human would be with the same wounds. It was an upsetting sight, but if it hadn’t been for them, then Raul and the others who were shooting them from a distance wouldn’t have been able to flank them and take them down.

“Hey, you’re still alive, right? Can you get up?”

This place sucked. The monsters suck, the people suck, the settlements suck! Not only did none of the savages have any idea who he was, they wouldn’t even take him money. MONEY! They didn’t know what money was! Who the hell uses bottle caps? And okay maybe he wasn’t being the kindest of guests, often pushing citizens out of his way and bad mouthing guards.

Whatever! Jack groaned in frustration, fingers pulling at his hair before composing himself and ducking in an alleyway littered with neon lights. Valentine’s Detective Agency? That heart really had an arrow in it. Oh he had to see what sort of princess owned this place. The CEO pulled open the door already failing to contain his laughter. “That’s a- that’s a real cute little sign you got out there! You-.” Oh. Uh huh. A... robot. Cool. “Sorry is your uh... owner? Master? I don’t know what you guys refer to people around here, but is your human around? Can you go get ‘em for me, cupcake? Alright, thanks.”

You know that was a pretty good question that he hadn’t really thought about and maybe he didn’t even really care at this point, he was more focused on shrugging off his coat than potential consequences. “I dunno, you’re the robot… synth thing, it’s fine! It’s fine! Maybe?? Who cares?” Jack pressed his hands against the other’s hips, backing him into a desk with a smirk.
