Who do you think you are?
“ Let me just say. If aliens wind up implanting eggs in my chest or something and I eat one of you? I’m sorry. ” “ I do not want another, single pop culture reference out of you for the rest of the trip, do you understand? ”

“ – uh, I thought we ran out of whatever last week. ” She laughs, closing her eyes and thinking hard on the question. It was a simple decision but … she wanted to be a little dramatic. “ A soda works, dude. ” She sits back some so she wasn’t leaning against the back of the couch anymore, adjusting the blanket some so she was bundled more. It was a little cold but that was a given since she was wearing sleep shorts and a tank. A cute one, too, and not one that was slapped together. Honestly, as soon as she started living with Jesse, her whole life had gotten better. He was …. everything for her, now. “ Hey, Jess? Can we go to the aquarium this week? ” She had always wanted to go see it – but it was something that she never got the chance to experience at the orphanage.
jesse grinned at ellie’s reply, letting out a laugh. “ yeah, shit, ellie, you’re right. we are fresh outta whatever. a soda, though — THAT, i can totally get you. ”
jesse was in the process of getting ellie a drink when her heard her question. he smiled softly at the thought of it, soon replying as he joined her in the living room, handing her a can of soda.
“ hell yeah, we can go to the aquarium. ” taking care of ellie was jesse’s biggest priority now. protecting her from the danger in his life, from mr. white and the rest — it was vital. ellie was jesse’s whole world, like a little sister — and, in a way, even kind of like a daughter. he wanted to give her the very best care he could offer a kid. “ have you been before? ‘cause, if you haven’t, then we DEFINITELY gotta go. ” he gave her a playful nudge with his elbow.
Even though the question was genuine, a part of her felt the smallest of pangs in her chest. She really hadn’t gotten any normal childhood experiences being in the orphanage -- she had time , still, to fit some in but ... going to the aquarium was never something they talked about. She had heard talk before that they had gone to the zoo years before she was even brought there. Ellie missed out...
The cold feeling of the can in her hands was a strange comfort, short tails tapping against the side as she shook her head at the question. “ -- there was too many kids to just ... go somewhere like that. Too many kids to keep up with. But I’ve always wanted to go. It’ll be fun. ”
Adjusting the blanket again so she was bundled in it, she shoots him a smile. It was nice to know she had someone like him -- someone who was more than willing to feed her curiosity and give her experiences she never got to have when she lived in the orphanage. He really was the best person she had met.
“ Have you gone? I heard they have this really nice jellyfish exhibit. And I want to see the penguins... ”

She gives a small shudder at the thought of being there for the whole day. Earlier there had been some particularly creepy men stepping out of the office and Ellie did not want to see what other clientèle this guy usually got. At the question of her relation to Jesse she froze up, not sure … what to call it. Running away from the orphanage and running into him was the best thing to happen to her and it wasn’t long after that he was giving her a place to stay. He actually cared about her. The feeling was new.
“ – oh, uh, he’s my brother. ” Ellie Pinkman? Name wasn’t too bad… She smiles a little but frowns, glancing to the door that Jesse had went into. She hoped it wouldn’t be too long…
“ Well, if I get to meet him I won’t write him off too quickly. So, uh, how long have you been working here, Jade? “ Ellie stands up, moving over to one of the chairs closer to Jade. She felt awkward with the distance – and might as well carry a conversation as she waits.
“ And who was the shadiest looking person to walk in that door? ”
jade can’t blame anyone for being uncomfortable here — it’s a less than desirable place to be, but in a way she’s gotten used to it. had almost been numbed to the sight of the odd clientele and the more brutal cases that came with some of them. her dad respresented some shitty people, jade had to come to terms with that quickly.
she figured jesse was her brother, he looked way too young to be her dad. it makes her wonder about the rest of jesse’s family, by jade isn’t one to pry, especially not with a young girl, so she’ll refrain from asking about it for the moment. she simply says, “ ah, that’s cool. doesn’t seem like a very good older brother if he’s dragged you to this place. ” jade laughs, signaling her lack of actual seriousness about it.
“ oh, he’s a real charmer. you’ll like him in no time. ” she takes a second to think before answering the girls next question, “ and i’ve been working here for around a year. ” actually saying that out loud felt odd to jade, it hadn’t felt like that long.
“ the shadiest person? ” and eyebrow quirks, “ who knows, with the amount of shady people who actually come here. the one thing I’ve learned is don’t judge a book by its cover — some dudes look totally crazy, but are actually real sweethearts. ” she was glad to see the girl had moved closer, jade would take any kind of decent company she could find while there “ and, what was your name? ”
“ -- yeah, he’s ... really cool. I mean, we’re ... not related by blood or anything. He kinda adopted me. I live with him. ” Kinda was the vaguest way she could put it -- she couldn’t just tell her the whole story. It was too long and too complicated. Reaching over , she grabbed a magazine that was left on the chair beside hers. Some ... old woman’s magazine , talking about health issues she wouldn’t be able to relate to in years. Decades, maybe.
Tossing it back to the empty seat, she thought about the thought of working here for a year. From what she had seen so far, a lot of sketchy shit was going on. She wondered why , of all the lawyers, Jesse picked this place. Was it because of that old man? What was his name... Mr.White? Yeah, that fuck.
“ Oh... I’m Ellie. ” She smiles at her again, a hand starting to pick at her fingernail a bit. She was nervous -- anxious -- of what might come from. She wanted to trust the guy behind that door but she knew nothing about him besides the corny ads she had seen on tv.
“ What sort ... of things does he cover? Like, there’s always specialties for lawyers and from what I’ve seen he’s kinda vague about it. ”
