❝ ‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒ Eh, maybe not, but I got all my own hair. ❞ It was a point of personal pride, as a matter of fact, & one he was more than happy to flaunt in the faces of other ghouls. Even with the radiation poisoning that made him this way, he’d tended to it like it was his sole possession ( it almost was, but for the ring ).
❝ Anyway, you had the look of somebody who quit caring, you know what I mean ? Somebody who wouldn’t be able to muster up th’ gumption to come after a thief even if you knew it was me that got you. & frankly, I’m still surprised you did know. It’s been a long time since I had t; stoop to picking pockets, but I’m not terrible at it or anything. ❞
Still, he shrugged it off rather than letting it get to him. Sometimes you meet a guy who’s just better than you are, especially when it comes to shit you don’t practice as much. Nothing to get hung up on. It’s a lesson that he needed to get taught. At least he got to learn it without getting fucked up by the guy.
He could hardly blame the man’s pride in his hair. Raul tended to do the same with what was left of his eyebrows and mustache. If he could grow it any thicker, he would. He’d let the comment pass, for now.
“No, you’re not terrible at it. I’ll give you that,” he replied. He was finished with the work on the pipes, and to test it, he turned the sink on, then off, then on again. Seemed to be working okay.
“What got you in a position to be desperate enough to pickpocket folk, anyway?” Raul asked.
would love to see shiloh's rock collection when it gets really big

❝ ‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒ Pistols, handguns . . . one — handed guns, ❞ Twig answered. He didn’t make an effort to try to sound smart to impress Raul ( which he doubted he could anyway ), just answered honestly as best he could. ❝ I really don’t have much experience with like, rifles or shotguns. But I can hit any target with my V.A.T.S. ❞
So saying, the courier held up the hand with the Pip — Boy & tapped the screen with two fingers. The guidance system made it a breeze for him to find his mark in spite of his very limited time up on the surface. which was a huge help considering how much he totally hadn’t been trained before leaving his vault. It could honestly be said that he was self — taught, which was . . . well, Raul would be a better judge of whether that was a good thing or a bad thing than Twig ever would.
Speaking of which, he was really excited to learn from the ghoul. Grouchy or not, Twig had a lot of respect for him. He had his own way of showing it, but it was true nonetheless.
“VATS huh? Never heard of it. That some kind of vault combat simulator or something?” He asked. He had heard of virtual reality pods that allowed people to do anything in a virtual space, from flying a plane to training for war to playing football. Judging from the context of what the man (or boy, really,) was saying, he’d have to guess that it was something related to that.
But he was wrong; when the courier held his pip boy up to show him, his brow furrowed. He wasn’t entirely sure how a guidance system would help his aim, but considering he had made it this far, maybe Raul needed a demonstration to see what it was he was talking about.
“Alright, here’s what we’ll do.” He directed Twig towards a row of empty nuka cola cans lined up on the fence. “Show me what you can do with and without this ‘VATS’ program of yours. Shoot five bottles without it first.”

“I’m so nervous about my date tonight. Maybe I should just cancel and say I was sick.”
【 💣 】—That earned Raul a firm slap on the cheek, quickly followed by the Courier grabbing and shaking the shorter ghoul’s shoulders lightly.
“You’re in too deep to back the fuck out now, Tejada!” She barked, the shaking then turning into massaging, as if to calm him from her own sudden outburst.
“C’mon man, you need this, after the whole ‘heat stroke and near heart attack’ deal you had while waiting for me when I got teleported to Big MT, I owe you one, and I can’t repay you if you cancel the damn date I organized for you.”
Having no idea how to actually adjust a tie but still wanting to be helpful, she straightened and fastened the accessory according to what she believed to look proper, and gave him a pat on the shoulder.
“Besides, what’s that gonna do to your dates self-esteem if a ghoul cancelled on her of all things?”
“That’s just it, boss. I don’t exactly recall saying you had my permission to be giving away dates to strange women on my behalf.” Secretly he did appreciate the gesture, but he didn’t appreciate being slapped-- it did the trick though, however, as he seemed to have suddenly stopped being so nervous about the whole thing.
“...You’re probably right; though I don’t know what woman would be desperate enough to want to date this,” he gestured to himself. “Not exactly uh... don’t make me say it, boss.”
Turning away to face the mirror, he straightened his collar and tightened the knot on his bolero tie, before his milky eyes shifted back to Cottonbelle.
“Who is this mystery woman, anyway?”
cheatdeaths:
Guns were not something she thought too much about outside of them being something that she’d always just… grown up with. Maybe it was all information she might’ve known vaguely once upon a time, but as it was right here and right now it was just something else to consider. For feeling like she knew a lot, Six decidedly realized she didn’t at the same time. All the same she passed over her new magnum. She smiled faintly with a touch of pride.
“Works just fine,” she replied with a slight laugh, “While I ain’t got half as much as experience as you do I know my way around fixin’ a gun. I just think it’s neat, and awful pretty to boot – called it the Mysterious Magnum. Don’t roll off the tongue half so well as Lucky does, but all that fancy detail on the side is just as nice.” She paused to study Raul’s face as he looked it over, “You like it?”
For someone who didn’t think too much about guns, it sure seemed to be her favorite topic as of the past thirty minutes.
Raul scratched the side of his flaking, necrotic face as he was presented the magnum, eyeing it with mild interest. It certainly did have a rather ornate design to it, unique in times like this, where anything that took time to make out of vanity purposes usually didn’t get made at all. Imitation mother-of-pearl handle, steel treated to simulate gunmetal bronze, slightly heavier than the usual .44...
Before the war, this would have just been an unusually ornate, but overall monetarily worthless, revolver. Now, however, it would probably go for quite a bit of money, like something a casino boss or a ranch baron would have at his hip.
“It’s a bit heavier than most .44s,” he commented. “I wonder if that helps the knockback or hinders it.”

“Well yes…but that book was horribly dull.” - from Carlo
“It’s called Classic Literature and it was one of the first real books that was published in an independant Mexico.... but yes, I supposed El Periquillo Sarniento is a bit dull, all things considered.”

“That’s what I meant,” she amended, “Bein’ the gun you used ‘fore the war. Though don’t seem like that’s the case.” Especially not when he clarified the location being from the Gun Runner’s. His meticulous work was nothing new to her, but still she watched it like it was. There were years of experience in the way he handled his weapon. Maybe it was just because she enjoyed standing back and observing, feeling separate from the world in watching little moments like this.
“A cowboy gave me his gun on the road,” she replied, pulling out the magnum she’d been gifted to show Raul. “Right before I met you, actually. He played the guitar and sang, so I sent ‘im off to the Tops. D’you wanna see?”
“No boss, with how much I actually have to use my guns, I don’t think I could keep them maintained well enough for use that long. I may be a good repairman, but I’m not a miracle worker.” He had to think that maybe the longest time on record he had kept a single gun around in good working order had been... maybe fifty years, tops.
“If you do see someone using an actual pre-war gun, it’s probably because it was kept in a steady-tempered safe for so long. Like I said, most people have already found ways to replicate the guns before the war-- Van Graffs and Gun Runners are to name a few, most of their stuff is new, but based on pre-war blueprint models. You’ve been scavenging before, most of the weapons you find lying around are usually only good for taking the parts out of to repair newer weapons.”
When the subject changed from his own gun to another she obtained from some mysterious cowboy, he quirked a brow and gave a one-shouldered shrug of indifference.
“Sure, I guess,” he said. “Why, does it not work?”
[ point + gun ] for Boone @tread-the-bear.
“Whoa hey whoa--! Watch where you’re pointing that thing, soldier boy!” The raised volume in Raul’s voice displayed anger, but his body language of holding his hands up showed alarm.
Having a gun pointed at you wasn’t something to take lightly, but it was even more alarming to have the other end of the barrel be one of your own comrades.
“What the hell is your deal, man? You of all people should know the first rule of gun safety more than anyone.”

RAUL!
Her explanation might have answered his question, but it raised several others. Raul had no idea what she was like before meeting Benny, so he had to wonder what exactly made her ill-suited to travel long distances, and what exactly she considered ‘long distance.’ Travelling from Goodsprings to New Vegas alone was approximately forty miles, give or take, which to an average homebody would be a long twelve hour trip even without stopping, and Primm to Vegas was even further than that; but he supposed to a courier, that might have just been an average couple work days.
The mentioning of ‘something exploding’ didn’t bode very well either. He’d probably ask about that later.
“You’re from a vault then, right?” He asked. “What kind of vault was it then? It didn’t have school to learn about different weather conditions or anything?” While it probably made sense that a surviving vault wouldn’t have much need to teach it’s inhabitants of outside weather, being underground all the time, he figured most vaults taught similar pre-war lessons and sciences; especially if it had already opened and was socializing with the outside world enough to have people living there as couriers.
sheila nodded hurriedly in response to raul’s first assumption, an excited ‘ yeah, yeah ’ accompanying the hurried rummaging through her pack to find her vault suit. it was rare for her to wear anything else aside from it and the followers coat; by coincidence raul had joined her whilst she’d been forced to wear something less conspicuous ( absolutely not because a bighorner had sneezed on her vault suit ).
“ oh– no, no we had a school! we just weren’t taught that there was anything outside the vault. ”
it took a moment for her to realise that would raise even more questions. sheila rubbed at her forehead, as though trying to will a coherent explanation to mind. “ so from what i understand, we were kept in the dark about everything other than the vault. our overseer found some files about our experiment, from what we found the vault experiment was to see what kind of people we’d become if we though the vault was the only place in existence. i think some of our books were altered to be– uh… vault friendly. ”
“You were taught there was nothing outside the vault... but you were actively working as a courier, while living in the vault?” Obviously this woman wasn’t as smart as he initially thought, or she was just making the story up as she went and didn’t want to tell him the truth. Either way, Raul was losing interest in the subject, since he wasn’t getting any definitive answers about her past.
The drop in temperature due to the snow surrounding the bungalow caused a slight shiver to go up his spine.
“I’m going to see if there’s something we can burn in here,” he said, noting the fireplace nearby. Old and dusty and probably had it’s airway blocked, but he could clean it out later.
✦ 𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐋
“It’s not really honor, more or less just… not being an absolutely terrible person, is all.” Obviously an exaggeration, typical of his cynical sense of humor.
Once Ben was finished preparing the bottle, he held his hand up to take it from him, and then began spraying the rusty pipes with it. It began to fizzle slightly, the rust mixing in with the vinegar and water concoction and dripping down the metal and onto the dusty kitchen tiling of the floor.
“Out of curiosity, what about me did you think ‘looked available’, exactly?” He asked.
‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒‒ Well that raised Ben’s brows. A dirty smile was quick to follow, a cant to the shoulders like he had got wind of some interesting idea to seize upon. If nothing else, it helped to ease the boredom & frustration of his situation.
❝ Hey now, you askin’ me what made you attractive to me ? Weird way to flirt, but I guess I ain’t opposed, ❞ he replied, moving easily into Raul’s personal space.
Raul physically recoiled as Ben neared, obviously not appreciating the invasion of his personal bubble, but the overt flirtation directed at him got him to finally lose his cool.
“You know what the hell I mean you sack of shit,” The words didn’t come out harshly, more out of being flustered or taken aback by the sitution.
Regaining his composure, he used his shoulder to shove the ghoul back, and focused on the pipe again.
“Why try to pickpocket me, I mean? What made me look like an easy target? Is it just ‘cause I’m an old man, cause I got news for you pal, you ain’t exactly a spring chicken anymore either.”
