Ivan Dorn feat. Moldanazar – Kaida
Ladies and gentlemen, let me present you Kaida - the result of a collaboration of the famous Ukrainian singer Ivan Dorn with our Kazakh synthy pop guru Galymzhan Moldanazar.
I know, I know, I haven’t shared anything by Moldanazar with you yet (I meant to, long time ago on many occasions, in fact), and I am terribly sorry about it, and, yes, I will post an MV or two of his, but I really couldn’t overlook this epic duet.
Why epic? Cause these two are known for their unique music styles in their respective countries to say the least. So, if I used to refer to Moldanazar’s work as “Kazakh music for hipsters” (cause, come on, who else listens to synthy pop these days, unless you’re a hipster, or a middle-aged, or both), from what I’ve heard, Ivan Dorn seems to tackle the same demographical segment for the last couple of years.
In Kaida, Dorn shows this recently adopted unique music style of his once again, this time singing in his native Ukrainian (which is, as I know, a rarity for him), and Moldanazar is, of course, singing in Kazakh in his characteristically unobtrusive manner, if you know what I mean.
Let’s just say, it’s not your typical type of pop music, these two are no conformers, but it is thrilling to hear such an interesting mash of the languages with very “Dornian” sound to back the whole thing up. I am definitely looking forward to more collabs from them, and just any Kazakh-Ukrainian collabs, really (can we have one with Monatik, please?).
Ah, and I’ve definitely appreciated the yellow-blue font scheme on the cover, cause, of course, (SPOILER) the flag colours are one of those things Kazakhs and Ukrainians can bond over, hah.
Just check it out, and do feel free to share and comment, of course.
🇰🇿🇺🇦
P.S. Btw, Moldanazar and his band are going to have a tour in the US, the first KZ artist to ever do that too, how cool is that?
