Even though their relationship wasn't explored in depth, there are hints Alucard has feelings for Sypha. I just want to point out the ones that I see in this scene of season 3, when Sumi asks Alucard what happened to the mechanism that moves the castle.
Alucard points to Sypha's doll, and says:
“She melted it”
Then, for a long moment, he stares at Sypha's doll and you can see the sadness in his eyes:
But I don't think he is sad because the castle can't move. In this scene, Alucard is remembering Sypha, the woman he is in love with, but who's gone. He misses her!
This scene is brief but I think it's very significant, after all, Castlevania is full of symbolism and nothing happens by chance; every little thing and event has a meaning. And I really think this is completely a callback to Sypha. Especially if we consider two things: the first, is that they are referring to one of the most important events in Castlevania: the lock of Dracula's castle.
And the person who locked the castle was none other than Sypha, in one of the most impressive scenes of the entire series. And Alucard knows this, because he was right there, beside her. He was the one who managed to make the mirror work and found the castle, while Sypha completed the spell to lock it down.
In fact, Sumi is inadvertently making Alucard remember this amazing and important moment with Sypha, the woman who was so powerful that she managed to teleport Dracula's castle and melt its mechanism.
And now, with Taka and Sumi, Alucard closes his eyes and smiles, and I'm sure he's still thinking about her.
But the bond Alucard has with Sypha is still present in this scene, cause he asks his guests about their past in Japan, and they tell him they were servants of the cruel vampire Cho, and hey were only able to escape when she left to answer Dracula's call and was killed.
But do you remember how Cho died?
In the previous season, it was Alucard who faced Cho in a fast and interesting battle that has a similarity to the battle told by Sumi and Taka:
At one point, Alucard loses his sword (just like the samurai Cho was practicing with in her court) and for an instant he is outmatched and in danger:
But suddenly, an icy wind hits and freezes Cho, killing her.
And who did this?
Yes, it was Sypha:
Alucard and Sypha were the ones who faced Cho, and it was finally Sypha who killed the vampire. And this ends up having a profound impact on Alucard's future as we see in the following season.
Because, at the end of the day, Alucard and Sypha have been very important to each other
And their bond resonates through the whole series.
