Holy crap. SyQuest. Sigh.

It is fascinating that the drive works flawlessly even with a lot of dust inside (unlike with normal hard drives, the reading head is not in a clean air environment here). This particular drive was used to transfer large files between computers in a DTP company. It is fast and reliable. On the other side its price/capacity ratio was not good in comparison with normal hard drives so it was not widely used.

The Failed Zip Drive Competitor - SyQuest SparQ Unboxing & Exploration
On Manuals Monday we shared the Corporate Identity manual for Benetton Sportsystem. Here are a selection of design process artifacts for this project, From what a “to do list” by Massimo Vignelli to the SyQuest disk containing the digital files for the manual, you can often follow a design project from conception to final production in the archives.
You can also learn a lot about how designers worked in the past. Do you remember SyQuest disks? They held 88 MB, which was huge compared to a 3.5″ floppy disk which only held 1.44 MB.
