Syrian Bread
Ingredients: Whole wheat flour White flour Salt Pepper Yeast Lukewarm water Honey Olive oil Butter
Directions: 1. Mix together 1/3 whole wheat flour with 2/3 white flour in a large bowl. 2. Pour water into a pan or bowl. Spoon in several tablespoons of yeast, stirring occasionally. 3. Activate the yeast by pouring honey into the pan. 4. Add salt and pepper to the large bowl of flour. 5. After the yeast has de-clumped, pour the mixture into the flour, stirring rapidly. 6. Knead the dough until it doesn't stick to your fingers (You may have to add more flour). 7. Heat the oven for a few minutes, and then turn it off. Cover the bowl of dough with a cloth and place the entire thing in the oven. 8. Wait for it to rise. Once it has risen, remove the dough from the oven. 9. Cut off fist-sized pieces with a knife and shape them into rolls. Rub olive oil onto a baking sheet and place the rolls onto it. 10. Place them back into the oven for the dough to rise a second time. 11. Remove the baking sheet and use a fork to poke several holes in each role. Preheat the oven to 450 F. 12. When the oven is ready, place the baking sheet into the oven and wait 15 or so minutes (You will probably have to check on them). 13. When they are lightly browned, remove the rolls and immediately spread butter on them. Allow them to cool.
ENJOY! They taste super good with butter and strawberry jam. (Also I probably forgot a lot of steps... I'll come back to this when I remember more)
