Cheesecake Day - When it comes to searching for cheesecake’s history, we look to ancient Greece. A form of the dessert comes up as a recipe served to athletes. It has been found that the earliest attested mention of a cheesecake is by Greek physician Aegimus, who wrote a book on the art of making cheesecakes. Depending on the recipe, either cream cheese or cottage cheese is used. When the cheese is mixed with sugar, eggs, and other ingredients, the batter is added to a crust.
Father-In-Law Day - Fathers-in-law bring a new perspective to our lives. Whether we are a new addition to their families or made bonds a long time ago, they grow to have an honored place in our hearts. They are the patriarchs of our families. Whether they’ve built a reputation for being stubborn, softhearted or full of humor, these men stand as one cornerstone of a sheltering family tree.
Get Gnarly Day - Provides an opportunity to embrace new ideas. The word “Gnarly” gets a bad rap. It can mean “bad” or “dangerous” but can also be exciting.
International Day Of Friendship - The day encourages making friends and building relationships with people outside of your own culture, country, or background. Through these relationships, a culture of peaceful and mutual understanding develops.
Paperback Book Day - One of the things that led to lighter books being developed was the commonality of the railway. The railway was indeed a faster form of travel across vast distances, but one could still easily spend a week or more in a carriage as it covered the great expanses of countryside. While books were a fine way to pass the time, they were dearly expensive and quite large and heavy, making them both risky to carry and inconvenient to read while on the road. So it was that the first paperback books were aimed at railway passengers. Since that time paperback books have become increasingly popular for both their reduced price, as well as their portability.
Share A Hug Day - There’s something amazing about a hug that just makes the day so much better. Maybe it’s the warmth of someone you care about being close to you, maybe it’s the feeling of security and solidarity that happens when you’re surrounded by the arms of others, maybe it’s the fact that you can’t give one without getting one back. Whatever it is, there’s never a bad time to share a hug with someone who’s willing to give or receive one.
System Administration Appreciation Day - Not only do they keep our hardware and software running smoothly, but system administrators keep our networks secure. They stay informed of the latest technology, too. When we go home at night, they often work around the clock to make our systems available the next day.
Talk In An Elevator Day - While most of us use this time to check our smart devices, this day points us in another direction. Whether we ride with a stranger or someone familiar to us, start a discussion. You might meet someone new. If you’re riding with someone you know, try to learn something new about them.
Whistleblower Day - Commemorates the day our Founding Fathers recognized the need to protect those who report corruption when they see it. The day reminds us to honor and support the people who speak up about fraud, abuse, or waste. A whistleblower is an individual who reports suspicious activity. These activities include violations, exploitation, misrepresentations, or other infractions. The activity may be within an organization, either public or private. Notably, the history of whistleblowers is long and often trying. While legislation now protects whistleblowers from retaliation by their employers, they still carry a heavy burden. Usually, once they have filed a report, legal battles follow.
World Day Against Trafficking In Persons - Human trafficking is considered a modern form of slavery. This illegal act involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain labor or sex. Traffickers use violence, manipulation, or false promises to lure their victims into trafficking situations. Trafficking victims usually experience physical and/or psychological abuse. They might also endure sexual abuse, food and sleep deprivation, threats to family members, and isolation from the outside world. According to the International Labor Organization, there are over 40 million victims of human trafficking around the world.
