Hythlodaeus's parents did not like him. They did not like him because they tried to do something that their people were not meant to do and create a child with magic rather than naturally, and they did not do it perfectly which led to his struggle with manipulating aether to certain levels.
He and Hades were friends before they met my Azem!
They used to run a little gambling ring of sorts in Amaurot among other children where they would cheat with their Aethersight at a card game. Andromeda figured this out by watching their hands and told on them on accident. They had to run away because all the other kids wanted their toys and stuff back LOL
Andromeda, Hythlodaeus, and Hades were all each other's first kiss when they were around 13 or 14 (or equivalent). Silly little three-way kiss because Hades felt left out when Andromeda and Hyth were going to kiss out of curiosity.
They used to kiss each other quite a bit as adolescents to show affection, but that faded as they got older and Hythlodaeus got a real genuine crush on Andromeda.
Andromeda and Hythlodaeus were dating since they were young adults, all the way through to the end.
He gets migraines because of his Aethersight. It's worse when he's a kid and doesn't quite know how to turn it off or where his limits are - he starts getting them again when he joins the Bureau and overworks himself in an attempt to prove himself worthy.
He worries about holding Azem back sometimes, but she won't hear it. She's so so so in love with him.
They (he and Azem) told Hades about their crush on him in Elpis in my canon, but Hermes' machine took that memory away ;w;
They also slept together the last night before the Final Days hit Amaurot. No one talked about what it meant, though.
Hythlodaeus sacrificed himself in my canon because Azem had left her post to stay by his side. He was holding her back. He needed to remove himself from the equation, and what better way than in service to the thing that would protect the people he loved most?
