Layla Miller was her family’s princess for the first fifteen years of her life. If Layla wanted something, she got it. Her mother and father made sure that she knew they could buy her anything she dreamed of. Being an only child insured that Layla was always the apple of her father’s eye. Of course, things like this tended to change when something earth shattering came out. Layla’s position in the family was destroyed when her father had found out that she had been sleeping with his business partner, Robert. She had been convince that Robert was going to leave his wife and family for her, but to any adult, it was clear that the man was just using Layla’s nature against her. 

Layla’s mother had wanted to go to the police, she wanted to get her daughter the justice she deserved, but her father refused. To him, Layla had known exactly what she was doing. To him, she had done this to destroy their family. Her mother stopped arguing when she realized that the loss of Robert as a partner would impact the family’s financial standings. The Millers quickly, and quietly, disowned their young daughter, sending her out of Houston into a tiny apartment with a stack of cash. Layla had never lived by herself, she had never even dealt with money by herself. She’d run out very quickly. Robert swooped in when she nearly lost the apartment. While he was in Houston, he could help her find people that would pay her to do just what she had been doing with him. He promised so many things and Layla took him up on the offer. 

She escorted for Robert and his friends until she was twenty-one. She had a big enough client basis to continue on without Robert looking over her shoulder the entire time. Cutting out Robert was like finding freedom. Her clients often took her on vacations and once during a road trip, Layla was left in the town of Olympus. Her client’s wife had gone into labor and he left Layla with a stack of cash and a goodbye kiss. She was alone again, but it hadn’t taken her long to realize the opportunity she had in this town. Becoming a siren was easy. Of course, it wasn’t the same sleeping with bikers compared to businessmen, but it was easier and she could see an ending to all this insight if she just found the right man to take her in. It took Jeremiah Thane eight years to make her his Old Lady. The small baby in her belly made the wedding come quick. Their daughter, Norah, was born in December of 2018. While things were messy in her life and the Thanes weren’t always the easiest to deal with, Layla would not change her life at all. Not when she had ended up where she was now.

Breakfast was delicious! Chickpea omelettes with fresh herbs from our garden(rosemary, basil, and garlic chives), filled with a variety greens mix and vegan cream cheese, with buttered sourdough toast on the side, chocolate peanut butter banana smoothies, and decaf black tea, with almond milk and sugar.

We sat outside on the porch for three hours, eating breakfast, drinking tea, and playing Night Before Christmas Uno and Mille Bornes. -Bo
