Sehun was beginning to regret leaving his apartment to cater to Taemin’s whims, a text having drawn him away from the comfort of his bed and into the other male’s company as was the norm. However, he hadn’t expected that their hangout would turn into an adventurous trek into the labyrinth after dark. There were rumors circulating around the campus, whispers of weird sounds breaking the eerie silence within the maze and speculation of a beast that called the labyrinth home. Supposedly another coven had awoken something, though Sehun had yet to decide if any of the gossip was true or if the story had gained embellishments by the time it reached his ears. Either way, he was still wary of the place and wasn’t particularly excited about Taemin’s choice of entertainment for the night.
“You’re an idiot,” He complained, long legs languid in their movements as he walked beside Taemin, following him regardless of his unfavorable opinion. “I hope you realize that this is a terrible idea. If anything tries to kill us, I’m leaving your ass behind.” He added bluntly, fingers curling around the frayed edges of his sleeves, the light knit cardigan having gone through the wash a few too many times. It was a lie of course, and Sehun was sure Taemin knew as much. If there was anyone in the world that he was willing to risk his life to protect, it was Taemin – not that he’d ever admit to it out loud, considering the other male would undoubtedly give him endless shit for it.
The sun had long since sunk below the horizon and the air around them was a bit cooler than he’d expected, the breeze coaxing goose-bumps to rise on his skin so Sehun pressed closer to Taemin’s side in an attempt to absorb some of his body heat. Though they could just as easily have been attributed to his uncertainty and nerves as they neared their destination. There was something incredibly unsettling about the labyrinth, something that he couldn’t quite put his finger on but he had never been a fan of that particular area of the campus. It was uncomfortable enough in the daytime, disorienting if you weren’t paying close enough attention to your bearings and Taemin had chosen to wander in under the cover of darkness because – well, why not? Flawless logic that only Taemin was capable of.
With the advantage of having perfect vision even at night, Sehun could see the maze clear as day as they approached the center of the gardens and apprehension raced through his veins. Taemin didn’t seem all that concerned however, which was surprising considering his tendency to be the one who was most easily frightened between the two of them so Sehun tried not to show his discomfort. He was never the type to back down from any sort of challenge and he wasn’t going to start now, so he did his best to keep his features schooled into one of nonchalance and stoicism. “Ten bucks says something scares the shit out of you before we even get halfway through,” He teased, more to distract himself from the eerie atmosphere as they grew closer than anything else.
