👻- For something that scares or disturbs them, but they refuse to tell anyone

Losing everyone. Those close to him know that James doesn’t really like being alone, but they don’t really know how deep that fear goes. The anxiety of losing everyone close to him keeps him up at night and sometimes gives him night terrors. If he believed in a God like the muggles do, he would constantly pray to keep them safe. James doesn’t suffer from anxiety like others do, but it does come to him sometimes, mainly when he’s worried about other people. It’s only gotten worse with how everything is becoming. His worry makes him physically ill.

🐇- For a secret item they keep (stuffed animal, comfort object, etc)

An old teddy bear he’d been given when he was young. He talked to it and slept with it. He kept it at home when he went to Hogwarts, but it was still quite precious to him. The Invisibility Cloak is another thing, but that’s more because he knows he can get away with things… And also because it was given to him by his father, which he cherishes.

👁‍🗨- Talk about someone/something you like, but pretend to dislike

It’s not to say that James likes Severus, but the older he got, the more he understood some things about him. Lily was a wonderful person and losing her as a friend would be painful. He understands that, in part, and he sometimes feels guilty for the way he’s treated him. But James is also a selfish person, and a lot of the way he treated Severus stemmed from his jealousy. He couldn’t understand how Lily could like Severus, but couldn’t stand him. It made him feel inferior.

🌟- For a secret wish or desire of theirs

To have a family. James didn’t grow up with a big family like he wanted to. He wanted siblings — lots of them. But since his parents were older than most, they couldn’t physically and mentally handle more than one child, especially since James was more than a handful himself. The Marauders became like siblings to him, but it’s still not… what he’s looking for. He wants to have family full of life and laughter.

James used to be terrified of the dark. He still is a little, but not as bad as before. He used to see faces in the shadows, images that didn’t make sense. He had, and probably always will, an overactive imagination. The invisibility cloak became a safety net by hiding under it. No one could see him, but he could see them.

Have you seen me?” James waves a hand down the length of his body. “Unlike many other… pure-blooded families, my family has never believed themselves to be better than any other person or magical creature. Besides that, the only opinion I care about is the opinion of my parents, and so far… I’m pretty sure they aren’t ashamed of me.”

“Spiders. The lads that say they aren’t are lying to you. Also, it’d be terrible losing everyone that I loved, but that’s a terrible thing to say aloud.”

James is terrified of being alone. Losing his parents and his friends is one of his greatest fears. If James seems overly clingy at times, it’s only because of his anxiety of people disappearing eating away at him.

“They’re big boys. I don’t need to look after them all the time, and I certainly don’t need to be making any decisions for them.”

A part of him does, yes. But that’s a small part, and he doesn’t let himself feel guilty for something he really has no control over. It was his friends that decided to join the Order, not him. He didn’t beg them or coerce them into joining the Order with him. So while he does worry about their safety, he’s also proud and happy to call them friends. Things won’t change if you stand aside and let everything happen. James knows that you have to stand up and fight. More than anything, he’s just called that he can now also call his friends, comrades.
