Well now you've tempted me! 👀 I would like to ask about refold T.Ode now!

I don't know if you mean the character bingo too or not but I'm gonna do it anyways

T.Ode. Ode Ode Ode.... Theodore.... For those who don't know, I have a little one shot of him, kinda like a character study but I don't tag it like that because tags are hard sometimes. It's And the Ocean Whispers in my Ears. Check it out.

To be fair, you're not meant to take the side characters in pmtok too seriously, it's a silly game about a man-made being that hates the race his creator belongs to and wants to wipe them all out! (and said like that it sounds. so wrong.) Everyone and everything in the game is made of paper or some adjacent of it! The bosses are stationery tools that the main villain has brought to life via mysterious powers that are never explained in the game how they work??? It's silly, a guy gets so angry he brings stuff to life to fight for him. Incredible.

Then you have one of the side characters. This fungus guy who has been put into cryostasis under the desert by some ancient king using fridges. A guy who is told to be a Captain that traversed the sea with a submarine and turns out he stole it from heaven or something similar to it. I guess you can compare a spa to heaven, I don't know I've never been to a spa. Anyway, This fungi captain thing (that speaks only in italics mind you) wakes up from his long nap, is asked a question about coffee or breakfast depending on your language, and then he high tails it to his dear beloved submarine that is a display in the museum, and then he takes back his submarine and helps you traverse the sea.

Now. There isn't really??? that much backstory to him?? other than the "ah yes. The infamous Khap'taan Teeowed. He did some stuff" that's... that's it. He is some guy. A funguy if you will.

... And then I wrote that one shot.

The whole idea of "this is some guy who was put into cryostasis" is what's started this. The possible frostbite from it, the changes he could see around. Like, what's different from his time?? There must be some sort of whiplash from seeing how things have changed from your time right? Even if he looks like such a chill guy. And then I started to question how much he remembers from his time. Sure, he answered the question but??? still?? They don't give us a lot of the guy, of course I'm gonna take advantage of that!

I think what truly sealed the deal for me with this guy was the fact that I started to write that one shot after a break up after I realized I was aromatic (which, in my opinion, has to have been the worst way to find out. I have nothing against dating, I wouldn't mind having a partner but... I guess things just didn't look right to me with that person, they still don't. Maybe I'll talk about this more deeply another time). I started to write about him projecting a little my own way of seeing things while also staying in character. That whole "I do feel attachment and attraction towards things and sometimes people... but not enamourment" is... quite how I feel things work for me. And it felt like it really fitted T.Ode in Refold too.

Besides that, the thought of "what exactly happened with the king and why is T.Ode where he is now" was something that has been rotating in my mind like the mugcakes I prepare in the microwave. I would never dive too deep into it, it doesn't feel like describing the exact events and how things went down is really that important or would change a lot what's happening right now with the characters (which is them trying to live their best lives), but giving slight glimpses of it does spice things up. T.Ode in Refold might not remember everything that he was, but there are times where there seems to be something wrong...

In the end, I don't think he'd focus too much on these little glimpses neither. He's living in the future, he has freedom to do as he wants and has a partner who is willing to follow him around. He doesn't remember but... if he doesn't remember then it probably wasn't that important.

Look, I know there's people out there who will be like "You said it yourself, you shouldn't take it too seriously! If you're going to add so much to his character then you should be making ocs" like. Yeah I know. But like I like to say; to look sane you gotta be a little insane.
