Ultra-endurance racing is a strange animal. Preparing so long for something that you know is going to hurt really bad... that's strange. And while I can't nail down why I need these tests in my life, it has been another reminder that the journey is the destination. So many small decisions and tiny victories that culminate in a good ending. Congrats to everyone out there who figured out how to navigate life's endless obstacles and get themselves in shape enough to race 206 miles through the Flint Hills of Kansas. — My race, by the numbers: 4 – The number of hours of sleep I got the night before the race 87 – The temperature on race day 6 – The number of compliments I got on my kit 18 – The number of water bottles I drank on course 3 – The number of mini Cokes I drank 0 – The number of flat tires I had (one puncture, but it sealed) 8 – The number of flat tires I was prepared to fix 5 – The number of people I had conversations with on course (not including myself) 7,751 – The number of calories burned 12,149 – The number of feet climbed 14:19:44 – My finish time 131 – My overall finish place (out of 616) 206.2 – Total mileage — #unboundgravel #nolimits #rideyourbike #T6standardRandoTi #RideMetal #TwinSix (at Emporia, Kansas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP1FdMFB_3r/?utm_medium=tumblr
