Romance & Comedy?

Title: Taste All Your Thoughts

Or: First meetings, flirtatious competition, and the trust and respect underneath it all.

What I love about it:

This fic came at a really hard time in my life and yet somehow reminded me how to laugh again. It’s fun and it’s sexy and the characterizations are spot on. 

The premise is that Jyn and Cassian are competing to get the most donations for an organizational charity. Deadpanprincess executed this perfectly: flirty competition; witty banter not just between Jyn & Cassian but also between Cassian & Kay; and there’s also some prize scenes between Jyn & Kay and Jyn & Bodhi. I absolutely love that Jyn is not only a linguist, but she’s written books that “saved Cassian’s life”! 

I think this quote perfectly encompasses the mood of this fic, and it’s one of my favorite lines: 

They dance around each other, smoothly stepping from one mark to the next. Cassian notes her coordination. Jyn tracks the length of his interactions. Kay records how many times they break conversation with their intended targets because they focus too closely on one another (five).

The whole fic is like a dance. Their backstories aren’t so different, their tactics for their competition are, but in the end they are both incredibly competent and incredibly attracted to each other. It’s so good! A really fun one-shot.

Title: Without Any Fear (the war is over)

What I love about it:

This was absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful, from beginning to end — from the description of a sleepy spring morning to the description of glowing candles and how beautiful Cassian sees Jyn. This whole fic just fills me with a warm and happy feeling! I loved Jyn and Cassian’s quiet happiness as they look towards the future. It’s full of hope for the future and the peace at the end of the war. Wonderful fluff!

Title: The things that make Cassian Andor smile

What I love about it:

This is so sweet and hilarious and very endearing at the end. It’s very striking how little Cassian smiles in the movie (not that there’s much to smile about, but still). It’s so wonderful to see two people coming together to give him more reasons to do so. Also, Kay and Jyn bonding is always delightful.

last band t-shirt i bought: I have purchased exactly one musician-related t-shirt in my entire life. It was an Elton John t-shirt and I bought it at his concert in 1995. I have no idea where it is now. Gone with the wind.

last band i saw live: It was a cover-band called “The Headnotes” (!!!!) at a conference. Said band was made up entirely of law students, faculty, staff, and alums. It was among the most excruciating experiences in my life. I will never unhear what I heard or unsee what I saw.

last song i listened to: Does the music they play in “Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild” count?

lipstick or chapstick: Neither, ever. But I mean -- chapstick, I guess.

last movie i watched: Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri. 

last tv-shows i watched: Happy Valley.

last 3 characters i identified with: Hermione Granger, Anne Shirley, and those put-upon fish-nun caretakers on Ach-To.

book i’m currently reading: Two really exciting ones! “Nonprofit Organizations: Cases and Materials” and “Introduction to Transactional Lawyering Practice.” OH BOY OH BOY. :-P  As for pleasure reading I’ve become an audiobook addict because it’s kind of the only way I have time to consume fiction anymore. :(  I’m “reading”/listening to the Six of Crows series right now. It’s... ok.

11 Questions - Part 2

I know it’s been a while but I have exams coming up next week, so... sorry for the delay, but... here they are:                                                                                     

1. What is the craziest thing you’ve done for the love of something?

Does ‘driving 900km (~560miles) in less than 48hrs to play two concerts with my favourite orchestra and conductor’ count?

2. What is your ultimate bucket-list travel destination?

New York probably? But I have a hard time deciding on one ultimate destination, ask me again tomorrow and I’ll pretty sure name a different place...

3. Cats or Dogs?

CATS. And not only since I’ve seen ‘Amores perros’ and start creeping out everytime i see a dog...

4. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?

Somewhere warm and sunny... 

5. Write me a piece of advise that you’d go back and give to your younger self.

Every once in a while - at least consider listening to your parents. They might not always be totally wrong... 

6. Share one sentence of something you’ve written and tell me why you like it. 

Well I could give you a sentence from the last paper that I wrote about b-lymphocyte class switch, but... considering I much rather weite music I’ll give you something of that...

I really enjoy taking known themes and putting them in a different context like another musical form, like this one... 

7. Can you still love/be a fan of something/someone and be critical of a choice or decision? Why or why not?

Totally. Nothing’s only black or white and as long as I like something enough I’m willed to forgive some mistakes

8. Rogue One. Dead or alive?  ;)

In my heart they’re all still alive and a big happy family, but I think the canon ending had to come and I wouldn’t change a thing about the whole film.

9. You can only eat one food the rest of your life. What is it?

Sushi. Mhhhhh, love it.

10. Give me your Desert Island Discs list.

These Songs, the first ‘Harry Potter’ book I can grab and my viola...

11. What is your favorite curse word?

This one just made my day. I had no idea, so I googled: apparently ‘Apfelschorlenverschlucker’ is a german curse word. It literally translates to ‘person who chokes on apple spritzer’. I guess that’d be it...

This made me realize that I dwell on what I see as my negatives far too often.

My list:

1.       Mygumption. I try to get things done (even if it takes a long, long time).

2.       Mykindness. I always try to be kind and to think of other’s feelings.

3.       Myhair.  When I was a kid I hated it butnow I love the color and curls.

4.       Mywriting.  Sometimes.  ;)

5.       My workethic. I’ve been working since I was 12/13 years old.  I like to do a good job at whatever job I’mdoing.

Well, the short, flippant answer is that sometimes I feel like breaking the hearts of fictional characters and readers.

More seriously, because the theme of that story is very much about snatching at fleeting moments of happiness which can’t last forever.

But, on the third hand, writing it made me so sad that I’ve had to concurrently write a happier version too - an AU of an AU, if you will. In the end I’ll probably post both of them so that people can choose the resolution they prefer.
