Elfbruary Day 8: Arwen the Smith
I noticed in my recent reread that the banner Arwen makes isn't described as embroidered or woven. It's described as "made" and "wrought." Words Tolkien uses for things made through smithcraft. And the materials mentioned for the banner are metals, not any specific cloth.
And then I remembered both the brooch she left for Aragorn in Lothlorien and that it isn't mentioned who reforged Narsil. Arwen is associated with smithcraft, so why not her? :)

Cloître de Saint-Sauveur (Aix Cathedral cloister) in Aix-en-Provence, France. It is a serene Romanesque cloister dating back to the 12th century.
A remarkable detail from the late-12th-century Romanesque cloister of Saint-Sauveur Cathedral in Aix-en-Provence, France. This twisted corner support turns solid stone into something almost fluid, showing how Romanesque carving could be both structural and deeply expressive.

The first draft is like scaffolding. You can’t get to a finished product without it, and it bridges the gap between planning and progressing, but you can’t just finish the scaffolding and call it a building. You can’t look at a bunch of scaffolding and say “My building’s shit, there’s so many other nice finished buildings around here and my scaffolding is just not on the same level, and it’s not even meeting building regulations”
Scaffolding is not a finished building. A first draft is not a finished product. Holding it to the same standards is not only unhelpful, but it’s objectively incorrect

There are not enough pieces of media. We’re partners comb each other’s hair. Every time I see it, I go absolutely feral. Why is it so rare? Am *I* the weirdo? 😭
Okay but literally though, people combing and braiding each other’s hair is: 🔥
