I can only imagine that in Tabby's worldstate when it comes out that she's actually been dead this whole time which Varric conveniently failed to mention and Cassandra is being restrained from violencing her way to the bottom of the question of why this piece of extremely relevant information didn't come out in either his tell-all expose or his personal interrogation Varric would say something like "Well if you must know, Seeker, I did write it all down. But I just... I had this thought that if I published the cure for Tranquility then the Divine might send her personal secret assassins to make me disappear. so if emmrich (who can interact with the dead) can see and interact with spite (who is not dead, but dragon age has purposefully left the distinction between dead souls and fade spirits extremely fuzzy)
then does that mean that any spirit medium (pretty rare, from what I recall of Asunder) could, theoretically, any spirit just tagging along for the ride?
like when anders (spirit healer, possessed by a spirit of justice) and tabitha hawke (spirit medium and spirit warrior, followed closely at all times by perseverance her very good friend a spirit of perseverance) saw each other for the first time. was it. like
got to thinking about the Hawke - Despair sweep in that demons poll and how it relates to Tabitha Hawke and Tenacity. I think on a surface level I had been thinking that, well, Tabitha in a previous world had been very Despair-coded, but that was before she had Tenacity riding shotgun, right? so that changes the equation quite a lot. but on second thought I don't think that it does at all.
I think the thing I got hung up on there was conceptualizing Despair as essentially very similar to Sloth—which Tenacity absolutely is antithetical to. but Despair is its own different thing, yeah? the void marked by an absence of Hope.
& I think wherever Tabby and Tenacity end up about 2/3 the way through the storyline—that grinding, bitter, spiteful persistence—I mean, aren't they Despairing? they've given up, they just aren't letting go. they've got their teeth sunk into it and they're hanging on with everything they've got. and yes, granted, maybe this city will be the death of them but you're going down first, or they're taking you with them.
maybe whatever Tabbacity become by the end (& that's pure Spite, baybeee) exists at the intersection of Rage, yes, but Despair also (wipe off the blood. spit in your face. you're either going down or you're coming down with me. you can try to choose which)

oh wait oh no. ive just turned tabitha hawke into a roxene shepard type. is what ive done with my da2 rewrite. ive just taken my first hawke and turned her into my first shepard. she even died and came back to life FUCK
it's been a long time since I've thought about an AU in which tabby hawke is recruited by the wardens instead of going to kiekwall, but I've since reworked her canon from that of "mostly normalest hawke" into a slow and inexorable complete breakdown of the self, and I think there is probably plenty of room in an origins AU for her to speedrun that shit
