I haven’t brought the Wanda Tipping Table out for a waltz in some time, so today is her day! Invented and patented by Grover Haffner in the early 1920s, the Wanda Tipping was the jewel of Hollywood’s talking board scene, appearing in promotional shots with some of the biggest stars of the era, including one fantastic shot (check my stories!) of Lon Chaney and Tod Browning on the set of the lost film London After Midnight! She operates by tilting back and forth, and the action engages a pulley that causes her double-sided indicator to swing about and point to letters, numbers, and phrases to spell out messages.
