[Tackable Uploads] Lady Liberty seen from the cruise
Interested in the newly developed I pad App by Tackable “Tapin” that allows for location based news gathering & claims to be “worlds first digitally aware newspaper.”
… very simply you place a small pin on a specific location and attach a post (such as a photo or piece of information) or question –eg what happening in Dresden this evening, or do you know a bricklayer in Deeping? or Where is the fire?
The App allows navigation to landmarks enabling users to upload/download information specific to localities as well as providing personalised content and interaction with those within that locality. Dialogues on interfaces can thus be projected to the general public and back to specific news media, potentially allowing dynamic citizen based newsgathering and communication to take place in a way never before envisaged.
Potential ethical questions should be challenged in regards communication of targeted agendas and location based advertising.
Details about a student newspaper using Tackable, an app for crowdsourced photojournalism.
So far, the Spartan Daily has based most of its assignments on campus landmarks and events. Each assignment is worth a specific karma score. This week, students who make the app’s leaderboard are eligible for a free doughnut from Psycho Donuts.
Some may argue that donuts are better than peanuts. But jeez.

Tackable + San Jose Mercury News = crowdsourced photojournalism app
Tackable: an iPhone app for crowdsourced photojournalism
Newspaper photo editors create photojournalism assignments. People with iPhone cameras go out and take the photos.
That's the gist of Tackable, a startup set to launch this year.
Here's a description of the app from the Tackable website.
Tackable is a live photojournalism platform launching in early 2011. People take smartphone photos of the interesting things they see, which get placed on a live map. Newspaper reporters and editors create photo assignments, directing the action.
Tackable is designed to give you a live look at everything happening in your city, right now. Connect instantly with people witnessing what you’re interested in. News organizations use the platform to write better articles, faster.
Tackable is trusted by: The San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, Oakland Tribune, Marin Independent Journal, Tri-Valley Herald, The Daily Review, The Argus, Santa Cruz Sentinel, San Mateo County Times, Vallejo Times Herald, The Daily News and nearly two dozen other newspapers owned by MediaNews, representing a combined daily circulation of 650,000.
