Tacos Del Tigre, 5610 York Blvd, Los Angeles (Highland Park), CA 90042
My new goal is to try every taco truck/trailer in Highland Park. Tacos Del Tigre is a humble taco trailer parked in front of El Super. They’re there everyday from 1 PM – 9 PM. The tacos are only $1.50. They also have burritos, tortas, quesadillas, mulitas and drinks. I didn’t see any prices posted. Meat choices: asada, pastor, cabeza, pollo, buche, chorizo, nopal asado, veggies.
Two men were working at the truck and they had masks and gloves on (yay). The tacos were nicely wrapped with cilantro and chopped white onions in one bag, cucumbers, radish slices, and limes in another bag and salsas. Tacos come with two small corn tortillas each.
* Pastor taco: nicely seasoned, small pieces, not carved off a spit
* Cabeza taco: a little chewy but fairly tender, beefy flavor
The salsas were really good. The avocado salsa with cilantro was bright and tangy. The red salsa was quite spicy and acidic.
They thoughtfully provided a few stools if you want to sit and eat. Cash only.
4 out of 5 stars.

Tacos La Tehuanita, 5100 York Blvd., Los Angeles (Highland Park), CA 90042
Tacos La Tehuanita is a taco trailer parked on York Blvd. five nights a week. There are other taco trucks in the area, but this one differs because they specialize in guisados – Mexican stews. They also have many vegan options (cauliflower, seitan, butternut squash, eggplant) but also traditional meats (asada, al pastor, chicken, shrimp). Choose from tacos, mulitas, burritos, or quesadillas. They also have nachos and tlayudas. You can get three tacos (not shrimp) for $8. They also have a Ror Burrito which is their version of a burrito with everything.
When I arrived one guy was in the truck, so I didn’t ask too many questions, like what is burnt cheese? My food took quite some time but there was just one guy.
* Pollo con mole burrito ($9): I was in the mood for mole and the burrito really hit the spot. There was plenty of stewed chicken and the rich, dark, sweet mole melded with the warm chicken and the warm rice. I added some habanero sauce and it added just the right amount of spicy heat and tang. So good!
Help yourself to their salsas and sauces. There are a few plastic stools set up on the sidewalk if you want to sit and eat. Closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Tacos La Chaparrita, 2424 Whipple Rd., Hayward, CA 94544
The trailer is hard to spot. It’s in the parking lot of HB Kitchen Bath, across the street from Target. They’re parked there everyday from morning till 7 PM (5 PM on Sundays). It looks small but clean. They have hand sanitizer, garbage cans, and even a few tables. The menu includes tortas, tacos ($2), burritos ($5), and quesadillas.
Meats: Cabeza, carne asada, lengua, al pastor, chorizo, chicharron, buche, jamon, pollo, milanesa
Two dollar tacos seem expensive when you can get a big burrito for $5. And I was so excited that they had lengua but they ran out of lengua and my second choice, cabeza. The regular burrito comes with meat, onions, beans, rice, cilantro, and salsa.
* Al pastor regular burrito ($5): The flour tortilla was nicely grilled and stuffed generously with pinto beans, Mexican rice, onions, cilantro, salsa (no choice was offered) and small bits of al pastor. The al pastor was dry and didn’t have as much seasoning as pastor usually has. The meat was quite salty. I did like how they provided pickled carrots and peppers. They added a nice acidity to the burrito.
