"Too Many Sad Boys in Austin," Researchers Report.
“Too Many Sad Boys in Austin,” Researchers Report.
(Austin, TX) Researchers are claiming that we have reached an unsustainable number of Sad Boys here in Austin. This will come as a shock to many of Austin’s residents, since even though record stores and vintage denim outfitters have seen increased profits, the boys over at SBI (Sad Boy Institute) think we may be reaching unprecedented levels. In fact, we may need to talk about practical,…

Breakfast tacos at Tacodeli (Austin, TX). The left is the Migas Taco and the right is the Otto, which has refried black beans, bacon, avocado, and Monterrey Jack cheese.
Austin Bergstrom International Airport, 3600 Presidential Blvd, Austin, TX 78719
Fro-yo girl here. For an older (it opened in 1999) medium-sized airport, Austin Bergstrom (ABIA) is quite nice. It does look older but it has many local restaurants, bars, and gift shops. There are about 34 gates with two runways.
I spotted some artwork and lots of information about the bats of Austin. Most of the eateries are local. You can find pizza, burgers, tacos (of course), Einsteins Bagels, Salt Lick BBQ, JuiceLand, Amy’s Ice Cream and more. There is more than one place to get Salt Lick sandwiches. For shopping, they had a bookstore, candy store, duty free store, and more. I also spotted Sprinkles cupcake vending machines and a robotic coffee barista.
You can pick up BBQ sauce from Franklin BBQ and other BBQ restaurants.
It’s also the home of the last Berry Austin (froyo). Berry Austin also serves smoothies and acai bowls.
The airport is lively. I noticed there weren’t that many tables or places to work on your laptop.
The TSA agents were pleasant, and it didn’t take long to get through security. There are two levels – gates on the upper level, baggage claim below. Parking is across the street in a structure. The airport is about 5 miles from downtown Austin.
What’s missing: a motorized walkway, places to stretch out and sleep.
You know you love me. xo xo, fro-yo girl.

Tacodeli, 3600 Presidential Blvd, Austin, TX 78719
Tacodeli is one of the restaurants at the Austin Bergestrom Airport. They’re a well-known Austin taqueria chain founded in 1999 and now found in other Texas cities as well. They’re known for tacos, including breakfast tacos. The tacos are hand-crafted and the salsas are award-winning. They use better quality meats (chicken with no antibiotics, local grassfed beef, organic pork). They also have salads.
At the airport, you can order from two self-service kiosks or grab pre-made warm tacos ($5.75 each). They’re wrapped in foil. They had four kinds of grab n go tacos. The tacos are served on flour tortillas.
Frontera fundido chicken taco: lots of grilled chicken breast, some cheese, sauteed poblano-onion rajas. I didn’t get any salsa. This was bland. Salsa would have helped.
Puerco verde tacoi: pork shoulder, salsa verde, queso fresco, cilantro, onion. I didn’t get separate salsa but the taco contained salsa. This had more flavor than the chicken taco. The salsa made a difference and the meat also had more flavor. The pork was tender.
There is an airport surcharge of 2.8%. By airport standards, this place isn’t bad.
