Several oil boiler room mods here. Equivalent AFUE effiency ratings just doubled.. about 40% to over 80%. We have a new aqua-stat controller with liw water cut off, outdoor reset, and flue gas condensation control. A flue damper to keep the heat in the room when not firing. A direct combustion air intake to fix the undersized room air intake. 4 repaired water leaks causing internal corrosion and an unsafe low water issue. A new low energy zone valve to actually get some heat upstairs. A clean and service to remove excessive soot and get the system in tune. An upgraded spin on style filter with gauge to give the client the ability to check and change their own oil filters. Then finally a domestic water expansion tank to fix an over pressure issue. This is what happens when you apply the home performance mentality to basic check ups. A $200 service turns into a $2,500 upgrade. Everybody wins. The client gets much reduced oil usage with $500+ yearly savings. Instead of getting suckered into a new boiler the existing 30 yr old boiler is saved and brought up to modern efficiency. Guess who this client will call when it is time to upgrade now? You can bet that upgrade will be a heat pump system to knock that heating cost in half again!
