"That's not how that would go," Harper piped up from the stairs, peering between the bars of the support beam as he sat on the steps. "The internal combustion chambers too small to support that sort of propulsion."

Ava was stubborn. She never liked asking for help. She had never asked for it before. Normally just got what she wanted through other means. But, now she had to try and be the whole hero thing. Which was annoying sometimes. She had headed down to the kitchen in the tower. There was a dull ache in her and she had wanted to try and find something to soothe it. It came and went with her phasing. "Bloody Hell..." She spoke to herself and searched through the cupboards. She had eventually found some painkillers, swallowing a couple and bracing herself against the counter top.

Ella hadn't meant to alert the guy to what was going through her head, but she had been caught off-guard by his questions and blurted out far too much about Elliot's disappearance before she'd looked up and realised who he actually was. She'd tensed up the moment realisation had crossed her features and then looked away as all of the colour drained from her face.
A beat of silence felt like an hour before she took a breath. "You could find him, couldn't you?" She asked awkwardly, unsure if this would just bring them more trouble. "I know... Some people know about him." But did they know about her? That was the real question. And what had they made Elliot do before-? But, in the end, it wasn't her business.
"Not hunt him down or anything, I just mean- I've tried to find him and I can't and what if he's in a ditch somewhere?!" She could hear the panic creeping into her voice and swallowed hard to suppress it.

"An interesting assumption - and a correct one. Mate, at least I know I'm stupid, what bullshit do you tell yourself?" He shot back as he sat back on his chair and crossed his arms over his chest; he was aware he looked young and inexperienced and like a chaos-magnet, but he wasn't. Not with the right words driving his magic, anyway.
"Look, handsome, you don't need to go peacocking, I already think you're fit. But, seriously, you have one of the best tools in the world sitting right in front of you, and you're going to risk your life - possibly the lives of civilians too - for what? Cos people are looking for me? People are always fucking looking for me, the nosey pricks. I'm better at this disappearance shit than people give me credit for."
He scoffed and turned his head away. "Put me to use or what's the fucking point of this?" He missed it, despite being 'retired' and completely out of service... He missed his magic being more than just some self-indulgent pleasure. It used to save people. He used to save people.

"What an insult. I think you'll find that I am always right. Unless my sister is here, and then it defaults to her-" He spread his arms out. "But, as you can see, it's just us. So, yes, I'm right." He had no idea if he was right. But confidence was half the battle, wasn't it? It wasn't like they were lost in a maze of corridors under an abandoned military building, and the shut-off of the alarms suggested they might be trapped or anything. No, that would be silly.
"Come on. I'm sure the exit is this way." He could just tell John to order him to the exit, but he didn't trust the man, and they'd get out eventually, without admitting his curse to a known... Person of interest.
