I finished the lads just now. And I need to find a good setup the take pictures.. All my stuff rn isn't really doing it..
Finished completing the first 3 squads of my 6th company. Meaning Basing, Squad markings, and assigning a special- and heavy weapon.
Dark Angels Inductii Squad. I’ve used MkIV and MkVI, aside from the Sergeant they haven’t yet earned the right to wear the Legion icon.
My first full squad of imperial fists is now done
Ash and Bone
Provisionally identified as a combat squad belonging to one of the Star Phantoms’ Battle Companies, this unidentified kill team is known to have participated in the assault on the Palace of Thorns, though at what stage of the conflict these pict-captures were taken remains unknown. Scattered accounts place them in the accompaniment of the 9th Company’s Apothecary Novuther some time adjacent to the battle’s conclusion, though by the nature of the scattered withdrawal from the dying planet, little substantial evidence remains.
These fine gentlemen were painted up for a Badab Challenge in a local hobby group, which resulted in a nightmarish trawl through the Badab volumes to figure out Star Phantom company and rank/veterancy markings, which eventually I just had to roll with whatever felt/looked right. I’m altogether quite proud of them, and now that I know how to do transfers, I might have to go a-browsin’ the internets for some shoulder pad spruce-uppening...
They shall be of iron will and steely sinew. In great armour I shall clad them and with the mightiest weapons shall they be armed.
First 5 Marines Assembled.
Left to right - first to last assembly. I am learning from my mistakes.
Also - Marines 1-3 lack accessories.
#4 got the Marksman's Honour on both his bolter and shoulder pad so I’ve added a scope and purity seal to the gun as well. Tried to put grenades onto his belt but this proved very difficult once the marine was assembled.
With 5th Marine I added ammo pouches onto his belt first - before adding arms, I dry-fitted them first to make sure they won’t be in the way. It was much easier that way.
You can see the remaining two Marines in the back still just legs and torsos. I put them on their bases today.
Sergeant, Heavy Weapons Guy and Specialist will be assembled last (the kit lacks the heavy bolter I wanted for the heavy weapons guy. I think I’ll try to magnetize those 3 guys so that I can swap their weapons)
I am becoming increasingly irritated with scale differences in the parts of the same model. I didn’t pay much attention to it at first (because who does?) but looking at the sizes of hands, arms, heads and such it’s difficult to justify using FW’s upgrade kits for 30K with the plastic kits, since the plastics are slightly but noticeably larger - I used a Devastator MK VI helmet on my converted model representing Exodus (an Alpha Legion assassin), and I had to take it off again since the head looked too fat compared to the rest of him (mainly based on a crouching Mor Deythan body). The plastic heads are larger, and much wider/rounder than the resin ones - they’ll look out of scale on older plastics like bikes and land speeders, where the resin upgrades will look out of scale on the modern plastics.
TBH this smacks the same corner of my brain that’s bothered by how difficult it’d be to get the old Black Templar upgrades to work with most new kits, and even the 6E tactical squad to an extent. Stop with the fucking scale creep GW
