In truth, Squall had been avoiding this visit for a little while. Not just because he - and the others - had been recovering and rebuilding after the Sorceress’ war, but because he wasn’t exactly looking forward to this conversation.
This man was his father. His biological father. The man that annoyed Squall almost every single time Ellone sent him back into his past. Ellone’s adoptive Guardian, The President of Esthar...it was so much to take in. Obviously he knew he had a biological father somewhere, but for that man to be Laguna Loire? Squall wasn’t sure what to think about it.
But Raine? Raine he admired. Her strength, her courage, her kindness - that was his mother. His mother that Squall only knew through flashbacks as well as from stories Ellone had told him but he had long forgotten -until now - due to the price paid for the use of the Guardian Forces. He wished she was still alive and that he could meet her in person like he was able to meet Laguna...
Of course he admired Laguna in some ways, as well, such as his determination to protect Ellone and his city - not to mention the world. But damn, did that guy irk him sometimes. Still though, he was his father and eventually they would need to talk about it and hell, Laguna also hadn’t known either until recently.
(...I wonder what he thinks of me. Was he disappointed when he found out?)
It was one of the many questions Squall wanted to ask, but not one of the important ones. Regardless, this meeting couldn’t be avoided for much longer and he knew that. As much as he wanted to try but he also had Rinoa encouraging him to go - to get it done with otherwise it would continue to eat at him and she was right. In the end, avoiding it wouldn’t help anything despite what he wanted to believe.
She even offered to be at his side, but Squall decided it was something he should do on his own, thus the reason he was alone when arriving at the large city. A city that still amazed him to this day, especially with it’s ability to be hidden away.
He took his time finding the Presidential Palace where Laguna would be waiting for him and it didn’t take long to spot Laguna the moment he walked in. Was he nervous about this, too? Was he dreading it?
(Will this...change anything?)
“...Hey.” The SeeD greeted, his tone unenthusiastic just as it usually was. He didn’t know what else to say or where to even start so hopefully Laguna would take it from here. He was better at talking, anyway.
