Taemin didn’t regret Kibum, but he was afraid
To Taemin, saying yes to Kibum’s mating proposal was really scary. I mean, Kibum had gone all out; flowers, a romantic dinner, a walk in the park to a secret grove with a blanket on the ground and fairy lights everywhere. But Taemin was terrified. He was still young, and he understood that he was at his prime age to mate, and then in a years time, probably have some pups. But when Kibum asked, he froze. He froze and then started crying. And Kibum panicked, and then started crying too. And then Taemin thought he’d just messed it up completely so he decided to run from the problem. He turned and ran out of the grove, but then realized he has no idea where he was supposed to go. And he just kind of stopped and shook his head and wiped his tears. He decided he was being an idiot. In that grove was a man who loved him. They’d had a lot of fun times together, and experienced a lot of things together, both good and bad. But he loved Kibum, and he knew Kibum loved him. Why did Taemin even hesitate? He ran his hand through his hair and then returned to where he’d left Kibum. His heart broke when he saw the alpha reduced to tears, still on his knee. After a rough explanation of how dumb he was and how sorry he was and how scared he was, the omega said yes and the alpha hugged him tightly.
It was a tradition to have the ceremony on the night of a full moon, especially for a child in the leading bloodline. Their celebration was at 3 in the afternoon, filled with blue and white roses and soft piano music. The celebrations were similar to that of a regular wedding, as was the reception. Kibum wore the colors of their pack, black and pearl aqua green, in the form of a fitted suit, and Taemin thought that it looked like the suit was made for Kibum (Kibum might’ve gotten it custom tailored but he’d never tell Tae that) And as per tradition, the omega wore a long golden dress with detailing in the same pearl aqua his to-be mate wore. Their ‘wedding’ of sorts went along without a hitch, their closest friends and family were there. Jinki, Taemin’s brother was the prime witness as it was the job of the alpha male of the pack. And Jinki’s mate, Jonghyun officiated the wedding, as it was his job as a mated omega of the leading family. He has been waiting years for this to happen because that meant Taemin would also have to do this job, splitting Jonghyun’s workload in half.
The reception for the entire pack afterwards was the party of the year. Everyone was ecstatic to hear that the previously untouchable and perpetually single royal omega would finally mate with someone. The decorations were amazing, as Kibum had taken the task to make sure everything would be perfect for his to-be mate.
The mating itself was what the two men had been waiting for, one eager, the other nervous. After the reception, Jinki announced it was time for the ceremony to take place, and then Taemin’s parents and Kibum’s parents took the stage and spoke about their sons and how proud they were, etc. While this was happening, Kibum and Taemin were taken into separate rooms to prepare themselves.
Taemin took a bath in scented oils and milk to symbolize his innocence and purity which he will lose once mated. His hair was washed in coconut oils and his skin was brushed with lavender extract. He was rinsed and given a gold silk robe to wear and he was taken to the room where those of leading blood were to mate. He also donned a white blindfold, not allowed to see until his mate came and took it off of him, to symbolize the taking of his virginity. A giant bed with the most expensive bedding, the room lit with only moonlight from the balcony windows. The omega sighed as he was left to sit on the edge of the plush bed, waiting for his to-be mate to come to him.
Kibum went through similar things to Taemin; the bath, but he was given different oils, more ‘manly’ ones associated with alpha blood. He couldn’t sit still, waiting to see his best friend and to-be mate. He was given a black robe and he was led to the room where Taemin surely waited for him. Their parents waited outside of the room and they exchanged bows. Then the omegas both touched his forehead and gave him the sacred blessing, allowing him to mate with the younger. They all bowed once again without exchanging no more than a word of congratulations.
When Kibum walked in and saw Taemin waiting for him in that golden robe, glowing in the moonlight, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t tear up at all. He shut the door and made his way to Taemin’s side, putting a hand on his shoulder, feeling the silk robe beneath his fingers.
“Hey” he whispered and Taemin smiled and replied in a hushed voice “Hey..”
That night they made love for the first time, Kibum whispered words of encouragement before he bit Taemin, marking and making him his mate. And Taemin cried tears of joy as he bit Kibum, doing the same.
They fell asleep wrapped in each other’s love and warmth, neither ever feeling as close or as in love with the other.
The next day they woke up to soft whispers of I love you and they couldn’t stop coddling each other and it was very obvious as they got ready for the day that nothing else was on their minds but each other. It was easy to tell that the mating had been a success because as the two walked around the village together they were positively glowing and Kibum was more protective over Taemin, and Taemin worried more about Kibum in general than he normally would’ve.
They were in love, a deep deep love, and now they were mated, and had both marks and two gold, matching rings on their fingers to show for it. And Taemin wonders why he ever had fears.
